✨ Meet Champ: Big Dog. Soft Heart. Couch-Loving Dreams.✨ A 70-lb bundle of cream-colored, wiry-haired magic with scruffy good looks and gentle-giant energy. Estimated to be 2–3 years old, Champ looks like a delightful mix of maybe Great Pyrenees, maybe Irish Wolfhound, maybe something wonderfully scruffy — and 100% good boy. Champ is very treat motivated (he takes his snacks seriously). He’ll gently accept treats from your hand, place his paws in your lap, and actively seek affection once he feels comfortable. Outside the shelter environment, his sweet and playful personality truly shines. When Champ first arrived, the world felt big and scary — but he’s made amazing progress. He now enjoys walks and continues to work on his leash skills every day. Loud noises can still be a little spooky, so busy city life probably isn’t his dream — a calmer home would be just right. 💛 Champ’s highlights: Sweet, affectionate, and eager to connect Very treat motivated and fun to train Enjoys walks and keeps gaining confidence Likes walking alongside another dog May prefer being the only dog in the home Would thrive with a fenced yard to run and play Strong believer that couches are for snuggling with his person Champ is looking for a patient, loving home where he can continue building confidence and finally relax into being someone’s beloved companion. If you’re searching for a loyal, scruffy sidekick with a gentle soul, Champ might just be your guy. Come meet him at Hopewell Animal Services — he’s ready for his happily ever after. 🤍🐶

Story
🤎🐾 Winny Is Waiting for a Gentle Kind of Love 🐾🤎 Winny is a 2–3-year-old, 55-pound tan lab mix — with maybe a little bloodhound sprinkled in for those amazing ears and that soft, soulful expression. One look at her sweet face and you can tell: this girl feels deeply. She’s incredibly gentle and loving, with the softest coat and the kind of calm presence that makes walks easy and peaceful. Winny loves to explore at her own pace and will do just about anything for a treat — taking them oh so gently, every single time. She already knows sit and clearly has known life as a loved pet in a home before. Because of her past, Winny can be a little hesitant around some men. But once she trusts you? She gives you her whole heart. 💕 She may do best with a female owner or with someone willing to take a little extra time — coming to visit her, moving at her pace, and letting that bond grow naturally. Winny may do well with another dog, and a calm, confident male could be a great match — but meet-and-greets are always required to make sure everyone is comfortable. That said, she would be perfectly content being your one and only, soaking up all the love for herself. Winny isn’t looking for someone in a rush. She’s looking for patience, understanding, and kindness — someone who knows that the strongest, most beautiful bonds are often the ones that take time to build. ✨ If you believe love is something you earn and grow together, Winny is waiting for you at Hopewell Animal Services. And when she chooses you, it will be forever. 🐶🤎

Story
Meet Ivy! This gorgeous girl is around 1-2 years old. We are unsure what she is mixed with, but we are guessing she has some husky in her due to her antics. She is such a sweet girl and SUPER energetic. She would love a family that goes to the lake, river or has a pool, she is a MAJOR water dog. She is looking for a super active family that can take her on long walks and plenty of adventures. She has done well with dogs she has met here but meet and greets are required. She would do well with children as long as she does get her energy out just due to the jumping around as she can be a wrecking ball at times. If interested in Ivy, the shelter is open Monday-Friday from 10am-3pm pending on if staff is in the building. You can also call the shelter at 804-520-9397 ext. 5 to set up an appointment!

Story
Meet Izzy! This girl was an owner surrender at no fault of her own. She was surrendered with Roscoe and Hemi. She can be dog selective so meet and greets are required if you have another dog. She did live with a cat and did fine. Izzy is around 4 years old. She will be protective of you and the property....just ask our officers hiney, Izzy thought it looked delicious when she was on her previous owners property and decided she wanted a snack, so she does have a bite under her belt with minimal blood drawn. Once she gets to know you and trusts you she is a very sweet girl I mean just look at that face!

Story
Hi, I'm Sabrina! I am laid back and love a simple routine, but am also excited to explore the world. Though I cherish quiet moments like basking in the sun, I can easily be convinced to go for a walk, a hike, or even pull my owner on a skateboard! Me and my toy ball are inseparable and I'm always eager for a game of fetch or tug of war with it. My independent spirit means I'm content on my own but always loyal to those I love. I've also mastered the art of being super attentive to human's moods and am always ready to offer love, cuddles, and gentle kisses during anxious or hard times. Because I was attacked as a puppy, other dogs make me upset, so I need to be an only pet. If you're looking for a sweet soul to share in both peaceful and playful times, I'm your girl!

Story
Willa is a beautiful, roughly 4-year-old, 70 lb Lab Shepherd mix whose world has recently opened up in the best way. Formerly known as Pinky, Willa has spent time in board and train, and with structure, consistency, and space to decompress, her true personality has really come through. Willa is still figuring out how to play, and it is impossible not to smile watching her try. She has endearing, slightly chaotic pounces and “is this how this works?” moments that perfectly capture her personality. She is adventurous, enthusiastic, and clearly making up for lost time. This girl is goofy, jumpy, and mouthy when she’s excited in a very typical, puppy-like way. She may jump up and grab at drawstrings, not in a rough or aggressive way, just in an awkward, excited “I don’t know what to do with my feelings” kind of way. She is actively working on manners and impulse control and will continue to need guidance and consistency as she learns. Willa doesn’t rush into new situations. She observes first, builds confidence at her own pace, and once she feels safe, her playful side comes out in full force. She loves other dogs and truly needs a dog companion in her adoptive home. Having a confident, friendly dog around helps her feel secure and brings out her best self. Willa is crate trained, house trained, spayed, microchipped, and up to date on vaccinations. She will do best with an adopter who understands that confidence and manners are built over time and who can continue the structure and training she has started. Because she can be nervous in unfamiliar situations, she will need a secure fence or to be leash walked for safety. Willa has so much life and joy ahead of her. The right home will get to be part of her learning, growing, and discovering just how fun the world can be. If you’re looking for a goofy, dog-loving companion with a big personality and even bigger potential, Willa may be your girl. To learn more or set up a meet, email adoptpetersburg@gmail.com with “Willa” in the subject line.
