Story
Looks like: Maltese mix Female, 10 years old (estimated), 10 pounds Little Chispita may be tiny, but she's just overflowing with love to share! This sweet girl wants to be everyone's best friend. And if you're willing to spend some time giving her some belly rubs, she'll love you even more. This little lady has got some serious pep in her step and is excited to explore the world with you, especially if it means meeting more people and pups. Chispita had a "ruff" time before she came into our care, having been found on the streets severely matted. Despite this difficult start, she's incredibly sweet and loving. She's in the perfect place in life to land in her forever home. She gets along great with dogs and kids and would thrive in a house with both. She also gets along with polite kitties, though she's not as interested in them. Chispita came to us after having been found as a stray and being taken to Hitchcock Road Animal Services.

Story
Looks like: Maltese mix Female, 8 years old (estimated), 13 pounds Dottie is a very gentle and mellow little lady who will immediately invite anyone she meets to give her belly rubs or pick her up. And who could ever resist petting her silky and beautiful coat? Her natural black lipstick is probably one of her most adorable features, along with her serious snoring and wild REM dreams. In spite of her blindness, she navigates her surroundings amazingly well, although she needs a bit of a guiding hand on slow leashed walks in unknown territory. This sweet girl gets excited when she catches a whiff of another dog nearby, then follows her nose to go sniffing for them. She can be a bit clumsy and may accidentally bump into other dogs, sometimes to the surprise of all involved. She does not have any known experience with small children and would prefer to live in a calm and predictable household. Miss Dottie has tons of joy and love to share and is looking for human companions who will make her golden years extra special and are understanding of her needs. She would like you to know that car rides make her pretty nervous and being left home alone makes her anxious. She would love to find someone who is equally content spending lots of quality snuggle time at home, would enjoy toddling around the yard together, or going for slow strolls in the surrounding neighborhood. This 13+ pound nugget needs to get picked up and carried around a bit and she would also appreciate continued potty-training. Her foster family likes to brush her luxurious curls every day and, above all, just love her to pieces. Dottie came to us from Hollister Animal Services so that she could get the medical care she needs.

Story
Looks like: Maltese, Poodle Mix Male, 14 years old (estimated), 17 pounds Buddy Boy is looking for his forever pal. Could that be you? Buddy is a gentle senior fellow who is a little hard of hearing and starting to lose his eye sight, but if you lay a blanket or towel down on the couch, he will see that as his spot and is ready to cuddle up and nap the day away! Buddy does great around other dogs and has lived with many canine companions over the years. He used to live with a cat as well. He has also lived with children, but in his senior years, he prefers a quieter home and would love to find someone with whom he can share a peaceful retirement. He loves riding in the car and gets short spurts of zoomies, running around with his soft toys! Buddy can be quite nervous in new situations and meeting new people, so slow and gentle greetings are a must. But he loves people! Once he's met you and gotten some snuggles, you're in his circle! He'll follow you around asking for pets and will even paw at you for attention. Sadly, Buddy Boy's senior guardian recently passed away after being together for the past 14 years. He came to POMDR to find his next cuddle buddy.

Story
Looks like: Maltese, Havanese mix Male, 10 years old (estimated), 11 pounds Caspian is a little prince who has had a rough time lately, but his outlook is looking much better! He is a happy and easy-going boy who would love nothing more than to cuddle up into a nice cozy bed. He politely meets other dogs with sniffs and tail wags. We don't know quite yet how he is with children or kitties. Caspian has a ruptured left eye that was also infected which our vet staff has removed. He is also not visual in his right eye. Since he is blind, he is looking for a home without stairs or a pool to help keep him safe. Caspian came to us from the Hollister Animal Shelter so that we could address his medical needs.

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, April 6th at the Palo Alto Pet Food Express from 12-3pm, unless he/she is set up and adopted prior to the event. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $200 (We have had a wonderful sponsor who is willing to pay the rest of her adoption fee, so that it could be reduced)   Miss White is a 10 year old, 13-pound, Maltese mix who was surrendered to DPS when her former home decided they no longer wanted to care for her. This gal is looking for a home where she can live out her golden years in style and comfort and promises to provide humor and snuggles in return! Miss White has a non-shedding coat which makes her an option for those with allergies. Miss White has a heart murmur which has been diagnosed by our vet. She is not on medication at this time for the murmur, as our vet did not feel medication would be beneficial for her at the present, but it is something her adopters will need to monitor with their vet. Miss White is the perfect dog for someone seeking a faithful companion forever! She loves keeping up with her foster mom and snoozing next to her as she works. She also loves getting outside for walks and sniffs and keeps up with the younger dog she cohabitates with. As an older gal, she is content to sleep most of the day away, so she would be the perfect dog for a movie marathon lifestyle!  Miss White starts her day at 7 AM and goes outside for a quick potty break. She has breakfast before getting a 20 minute walk, keeping up with the other dog in her foster home. During the day, she snoozes in a soft bed, taking herself outside for bathroom breaks as needed. She gets another short walk in the evening before dinner. In the evening, she cuddles with her foster mom before heading to bed in her crate around 10 PM.  Miss White gets along with other dogs, but doesn’t love playful in your face pups, so a home with a puppy might not be a fit for her. She loves her walks and she perks up once she gets outside.  Miss White is an option for any home. For those with an open heart towards our gray-muzzled friends, she will be a loyal and loving companion. Kids in a home should be in their teens. April 19, 2024, 6:56 am

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $700   Louie is an 8 month old Maltese mix who is looking for his Musketeers! Louie came from the shelter with his two companions and was extremely ready to escape the confines of the kennel. After a good groom, Louie emerged from his matted coat. Louie has a non-shedding coat which will make him an option for those with allergies, or who want less hair around the house. Louie will require regular grooming.    Below is a note from Louie’s foster.  “Louie is a sweet, sensitive boy who is blossoming as he discovers the world around him. On his first days in his foster home, he was so terrified that we could barely touch him without him running to hide. In the days following, we started seeing his silly and curious side as he took his cues from our resident dogs. Now, he loves to follow us around and ask for pets. It has been so lovely to watch him bloom in our home as he has gained his confidence and we know his lucky forever home will have a blast with him.  Louie wakes up and goes outside for a potty around 7 AM. He comes inside for breakfast and then settles down for a luxurious morning nap next to his foster siblings. He goes out a few times throughout the day to get his zoomies out, but mostly sits quietly with his toys or naps next to us as we work. Louie has dinner at 6 PM and then enjoys some couch snuggles in the evening as we unwind from the day. He goes outside for one last potty at 10 PM and then curls up in his dog bed for the night.  Louie lives with multiple dogs and cats in his forever home and gets along with them all! He needs a slow introduction to people as he is quite fearful of new people, but if you are willing to put in the work, the effort is worth it! Louie is still working on leash introductions and will need a patient home ready to show him the ropes.  Louie is the kind of dog that will be so worth the effort and time he needs to settle in. When he is set up for success, he will adapt and integrate into his environment. Louie takes his cues from his foster siblings, so he will need a confident dog in his new home.”    Louie is only an option for homes who have prior dog experience, with shy dog experience prioritized. Louie would prefer a calmer environment, so no kids under the age of 15.April 19, 2024, 6:56 am
