Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee. This dog will be at a meet and greet event on Saturday, March 23rd unless he/she is adopted prior to the event with a set up home. The event is from 12 pm to 3 pm at Palo Alto's Pet Food Express. Those interested in meeting the dog can come out to our meet and greet event. We no longer do application approval onsite. Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $100 Donation(Remaining adoption fee is being sponsored)   Wadsworth the Butler is a 12 year old Maltese mix who was surrendered to our rescue because he was “too old” for his former home. Well, we promised him we would find him the best possible home for his golden years. Wadsworth has a non shedding coat and sits patiently for grooming sessions like the gentleman he is. He is on the smaller side which makes him perfect for a warm lap! Wadsworth is on medication for heart failure but you wouldn’t know it from the way he romps around and the permanent smile on his face! The medication costs around $60 a month. His forever home will receive one month of medication to help his transition to a new home.    Below is a note from Wadsworth’s foster!  “Wadsworth has been a sweet and chill dog from day one! He is mellow but still has a ton of personality. He always has a happy wiggle, a smile, and a wagging tail. I have never known such an utter sweetheart. He loves to follow me around but is also just as happy to cuddle with our dog on the couch. Wadsworth loves resting on a lap and getting petted. He loves going on walks. If you are petting him and stop before he decides you are done, he will gently nudge you to keep showing him love. He reminds me of a happy little sloth as he snoozes with a serene look on his cute face!   Wadsworth starts his day around 6 AM, rising with the sun to head out to potty with our resident dog. My son likes to cuddle with the pups before he gets ready for school, and Wadsworth adores his snuggle time. Wadsworth takes his breakfast of kibble with broth and then settles down on the couch for a luxurious nap after getting his morning meds. He goes out every few hours for a potty break. He gets a walk in the afternoon and he loves getting his sniffs in! He gets dinner at 5 PM and then sits on the couch with us to take his evening meds. We go to bed at 10 PM and Wadsworth snuggles into his pile of blankets to dream of treats and snuggles  Wadsworth gets along very well with our resident dog. Since he is older, he wouldn’t thrive with a super active puppy who wants to play all day, but he would love a companion. He loves people as long as they aren’t too loud and stompy, so no young kiddos for this old man! Wadsworth adores his daily walks and walks well on a leash. He is fully house trained. This lovely pup will be a perfect addition to your home!”   Wadsworth would do well in just about any kind of home, as long as they are ready for snuggles and daily medication. Kids in the home should be over the age of 12 and on the calmer side.March 25, 2024, 11:42 pm

Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $200 (We have had a wonderful sponsor who is willing to pay the rest of her adoption fee, so that it could be reduced)   Miss White is a 10 year old Maltese mix who was surrendered to DPS when her former home decided they no longer wanted to care for her. This gal is looking for a home where she can live out her golden years in style and comfort and promises to provide humor and snuggles in return! Miss White has a non-shedding coat which makes her an option for those with allergies. Miss White has a heart murmur which has been diagnosed by our vet. She is not on medication at this time for the murmur, as our vet did not feel medication would be beneficial for her at the present, but it is something her adopters will need to monitor with their vet. Miss White is the perfect dog for someone seeking a faithful companion forever! She loves keeping up with her foster mom and snoozing next to her as she works. She also loves getting outside for walks and sniffs and keeps up with the younger dog she cohabitates with. As an older gal, she is content to sleep most of the day away, so she would be the perfect dog for a movie marathon lifestyle!  Miss White starts her day at 7 AM and goes outside for a quick potty break. She has breakfast before getting a 20 minute walk, keeping up with the other dog in her foster home. During the day, she snoozes in a soft bed, taking herself outside for bathroom breaks as needed. She gets another short walk in the evening before dinner. In the evening, she cuddles with her foster mom before heading to bed in her crate around 10 PM.  Miss White gets along with other dogs, but doesn’t love playful in your face pups, so a home with a puppy might not be a fit for her. She loves her walks and she perks up once she gets outside.  Miss White is an option for any home. For those with an open heart towards our gray-muzzled friends, she will be a loyal and loving companion. Kids in a home should be in their teens. March 25, 2024, 11:42 pm

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $600   Maisie is a 4 year old Maltese mix who was rescued from the shelter after being surrendered due to “no longer suiting her family”. We couldn’t let such a sweet gal spend her days in a crowded pen, so we rescued her and promised her the best second chance ever. Maisie has a non-shedding coat which will require regular grooming. She is an option for those with allergies, or who want less hair around the house    Below is a note from Maisie’s foster! “Maisie is a very sweet, loving, and excitable dog who is looking for her forever person. Are you looking for a personal cuddle companion who showers you in endless love? Maisie is the gal for you! Maisie also adores toys and is often found with a tiny lamb chop toy cuddled up next to her as she snoozes. Maisie also loves a warm blanket and happily sits near us for movie marathons, bundled up with just her nose peeking out. At only ten pounds, Maisie is the perfect miniature size for both playtime and cuddles.  Maisie starts her day at 7 AM with breakfast before she goes outside to potty. She comes inside and curls up for a nap until around 9 AM. After this, she spends her day snuggled next to her person, playing with her lamb chop, or exploring the yard. She adores her daily walks which she takes with our resident dogs. Maisie is fully potty trained and crate trained. She has dinner at 7 PM and then cuddles until it is time for bed.  Maisie gets along well with other dogs. She does well with cats, as most of them are larger than her. Maisie would do best in a home without children, as she prefers a quieter and calmer environment.”   Maisie is only an option for those who have owned a dog previously. Interested homes should have experience with shy and undersocialized dogs who need continued support in confidence building. Teenagers would be the youngest age for Maisie, but an adult only home would be best suited to her lifestyle.March 25, 2024, 11:42 pm

Anyone adopting has been previously approved and set up to meet prior to the event. Adoption Fee: $700   Huey is an 8 month old Maltese x Poodle (Maltipoo) who can’t wait to find his new band of Musketeers! Huey was surrendered to the shelter with his pals after his former home was no longer able to care for them. Huey was very shy and matted when we took him into our rescue, and we knew he just needed some TLC to show us his awesome self. Huey has been building his confidence and is now ready for his next chapter. Huey has a non-shedding coat which makes him an option for those with allergies. He will require regular grooming.    Below is a note from Huey’s foster.  “Huey is a sweet and loving boy who is just an amazing and wonderful buddy! Huey arrived very scared from the shelter and spent a week or so getting acclimated to our house. Now, he loves to quietly cuddle with me, laying with his head in my lap. He loves to be near me and our resident dogs, following me around the house as I go about my day. Huey is a true couch potato type of dog, happy to spend his day lounging on the couch and rolling over when he thinks he can get some pets. Huey has a hilarious hobby where he takes toys and socks and makes a little pile to cuddle on with his prizes. Huey is such a love and has been a fabulous temporary addition to our home.  Huey starts his day with breakfast at 7 AM before going outside for a potty break. During the day, he hangs out on the couch with my resident dogs, laying on a soft blanket and snoozing the day away. He spends some of his day outside, soaking up the sunshine and exploring his surroundings. He gets a walk in the afternoon when the weather allows, and is curiously learning from our dogs. He gets dinner at 6 PM and then cuddles up on the couch for the rest of the night.  Huey gets along very well with our dogs and would do well with a canine companion in his new home. He is mostly house trained and crate trained. Huey had never experienced a leash before he came to us, so we have been working on his leash walking skills as he gains his confidence. Huey is such a mellow guy, he will make your life complete!”   Huey is an option for a variety of homes, regardless of prior experience. While he would enjoy a canine companion in his new home, he could also be a solo pup. Kids in the home should be over the age of 10.March 25, 2024, 11:42 pm

Louie came from the shelter with his two companions and was extremely ready to escape the confines of the kennel. After a good groom, Louie emerged from his matted coat. Louie has a non-shedding coat which will make him an option for those with allergies, or who want less hair around the house. Louie will require regular grooming.    Below is a note from Louie’s foster.  “Louie is a sweet, sensitive boy who is blossoming as he discovers the world around him. On his first days in his foster home, he was so terrified that we could barely touch him without him running to hide. In the days following, we started seeing his silly and curious side as he took his cues from our resident dogs. Now, he loves to follow us around and ask for pets. It has been so lovely to watch him bloom in our home as he has gained his confidence and we know his lucky forever home will have a blast with him.  Louie wakes up and goes outside for a potty around 7 AM. He comes inside for breakfast and then settles down for a luxurious morning nap next to his foster siblings. He goes out a few times throughout the day to get his zoomies out, but mostly sits quietly with his toys or naps next to us as we work. Louie has dinner at 6 PM and then enjoys some couch snuggles in the evening as we unwind from the day. He goes outside for one last potty at 10 PM and then curls up in his dog bed for the night.  Louie lives with multiple dogs and cats in his forever home and gets along with them all! He needs a slow introduction to people as he is quite fearful of new people, but if you are willing to put in the work, the effort is worth it! Louie is still working on leash introductions and will need a patient home ready to show him the ropes.  Louie is the kind of dog that will be so worth the effort and time he needs to settle in. When he is set up for success, he will adapt and integrate into his environment. Louie takes his cues from his foster siblings, so he will need a confident dog in his new home.”    Louie is only an option for homes who have prior dog experience, with shy dog experience prioritized. Louie would prefer a calmer environment, so no kids under the age of 15.March 25, 2024, 11:42 pm
