Story
Meet Knuckles – Your Velcro-Hearted Shadow and Cuddle Pro! 💚🐾 Knuckles is a 1 year old small-breed mix with a big personality and an even bigger heart. This fuzzy little lovebug is a certified cuddle connoisseur, and he’s on a mission to find his forever person to hug, adore, and follow around like the loyal best friend he was born to be. Affectionate and endearing, Knuckles loves to stand on his hind legs to give gentle hugs while gazing at you like you’re his entire world—because, to him, you are. This brave boy recently battled sickness and made a full, speedy recovery, charming every vet and staff member along the way. His resilience is matched only by his sweetness, and now that he's healthy, he's ready to bring joy to a loving home. Knuckles can be a little shy when meeting new people—especially men—but with some treats, a soft voice, and a gentle touch, he warms up quickly. Every day is a new adventure for him, and he’s still learning that loud or sudden noises aren’t scary—so patience and reassurance go a long way. Quirky? Oh yes. Here are some adorable Knuckles facts: He insists on non-tip bowls (otherwise he’ll flip them like a tiny, fuzzy waiter). He doesn’t like peanut butter—nope, not even the fancy kind. Every treat and toy gets proudly marched back to his bed. He’s tidy and adorable! Once Knuckles bonds with you, you’ve got a loyal companion for life. He’s not just a dog; he’s your shadow, your snuggle buddy, and your heart on four legs. If you're looking for a lifelong best friend who’ll stick by you through thick and thin (and probably sleep with his head on your feet), Knuckles is ready to choose you. The adoption fee for Knuckles is $400. This donation helps to cover veterinary expenses including spay/neuter, microchip and vaccinations. Wish Upon a Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit, foster based animal rescue. If you would like to meet Knuckles please complete our adoption questionnaire at www.wishuponarescue.org/adopt. We will review your responses and be in contact to schedule a meet and greet at a time and place convenient for your family and our team member.

Story
Mary is a 4 year old Maltese ready to find a great home! Mary was surrendered by family after the owner passed away in December of 2024. Unfortunately, scant details were provided about her. What we do know for certain is that she is young(er), was in poor condition (flea infestations), pancaked over thresholds, and was woefully under socialized. The really great news is that she is blossoming with good care, good food and a whole lot of love! Given Mary’s proclivity for running zoomies, jumping on furniture and dogs, she is very much a puppy. Our best guess is no more than two years of age. Despite the joy and zest with which Mary greets life, she is timid. Mary expects for you to hit her when she is approached. She will immediately pancake to the floor, cowering. When she first arrived in foster care, Mary suffered two seizures which were most likely precipitated by the stress of constantly moving homes. Mary is on a vet approved protocol of CBD for seizures and has not suffered any additional seizures since. Mary is now house trained and is able to eat her food and digest without throwing everything up an hour after a meal. Mary, all sweetness and youth, acts as if her world is unsafe. She will require a home that is able help her become relaxed with knowing she is loved. Mary must have a very secure fenced yard as she is a runner and will jump and run at a moment’s notice. Mary will do okay as an only dog but would do best with an active household with a confident, patient dog to teach Mary the ropes. Mary will bully a timid dog as she plays rough and pushes the limit. Mary is wary of a harness and allows one to be fitted but is still a scrambler on a leash. She is smart and will learn this in time. Mary is up to date on shots, spayed, de-wormed, micro-chipped and fecal tested negative. She also recently got a dental cleaning. If you're interested in adopting, please fill out an application here: https://tinyurl.com/4u3tuy5c Due to the high volume of applications, our Adoption Coordinator will only contact the applicant that best meets the needs of the pet. Though his exact breed is unknown, we believe he may be a Poodle/Maltese mix—what we do know is that he’s unique, charming, and in need of a very specific kind of forever home. Rescued from a shelter in Kentucky, Thackery’s past remains a mystery. Because of that, he can be shy and skittish in new environments and needs someone who will offer patience, understanding, and love as he continues to build confidence. 🐾 What Thackery Needs: A quiet home with a calm routine A female adopter (he strongly prefers women) No children or teens—he’s not comfortable around them Another friendly dog could be great for companionship Someone experienced or patient with dogs who are shy or nervous 🐕 Thackery’s Personality: Prefers one person he can bond closely with Loves to snuggle once he trusts you Enjoys playing with other dogs Can play-bite when excited (something to be mindful of and manage appropriately) Needs time to adjust to new environments but settles in with gentle support Thackery may not be the right fit for every home—but for the right person, he will be an incredibly loyal and loving companion. He’s looking for that special someone who sees the beauty in his quiet soul and is willing to let him blossom at his own pace. If you have a calm home, a big heart, and the patience to let Thackery come around on his own terms, he just might be your perfect little shadow. 🐾 This dog is currently located in Chicago's southwest suburbs and can be seen by appointment once an adoption application is completed and approved by the rescue. Please note that we cannot hold dogs for any reason. If the dog or puppy is not yet fully vetted, we can only consider applications from adopters within an hour's drive or 40 miles of Lemont, IL, due to required vet visits at our partner veterinarians. For fully vetted dogs or puppies, we welcome applications from out-of-state or beyond the 40-mile radius. Please only apply if you are ready to meet and welcome a new companion into your home within five days of approval. Breed and Age Information: Unless the puppy was born in our care, we cannot guarantee the breed or age. Breed and age estimates are based on veterinary advice, shelter records, physical appearance, and information provided by previous owners. The adoption fee includes: Spay/neuter (performed at one of our partner veterinarians as scheduled by the rescue) Microchip Rabies vaccine DHPP vaccine Bordetella vaccine 4DX test (Heartworm, Anaplasmosis, Ehrlichia, Lyme Disease) General wellness care, including deworming, heartworm prevention, and flea/tick prevention Your adoption fee also helps support medical care for other rescue animals, including heartworm treatments, surgeries, and emergency care. Spay/Neuter Policy: We spay/neuter dogs at 16 weeks or older, at the discretion of the rescue and in consultation with our partner veterinarians. While some veterinarians recommend delaying the procedure based on a breeds projected size, as a rescue, our primary goal is to prevent unwanted litters. Spaying and neutering also provide significant health benefits, including cancer prevention and reducing behavioral issues. The American Animal Hospital Association and the American Veterinary Medical Association support pediatric spay/neuter for cats and dogs as early as 16 weeks. We carefully assess each case to determine the best timing for the procedure. Interested in Adopting? Submit an adoption application at www.rubywhiskers.org/adopt

Story
Meet Wrigley! This playful 2-year-old is looking for a home where he can thrive. He loves cuddles, toys, and car rides, and is potty and crate trained after completing puppy obedience school. While he’s affectionate and fun, Wrigley needs a patient family to help him with some habits, like chewing, barking, and refining his recall. He has an adorable little underbite and a front leg twist, which the vet says does not cause pain but may lead to arthritis in his old age. Wrigley needs a home as the only pet, as his energetic nature is too much for his senior dog sibling. He’s a sweet little boy who is ready to give all his love and puppy snuggles to a family willing to guide him as he grows.

Story
Sweet Kaylee can't seem to catch a break. 2 years ago, she found herself on the euthanasia list at a high kill shelter due to heartworm positive. We pulled her, got had her treatment and completed all vetting. We hoped she had found her forever home. Unfortunately, Kaylee was returned to rescue after previous adopter developed severe health problems and could no longer care for herself or Kaylee. Kaylee is a wonderful little girl that does have some anxiety with storms and fireworks. She loves to go on walks and car rides. She does great with small dogs but is scared of larger dogs. DNA showed her as primarily Maltese and Schipperke with some border collie. She has remained happy and playful and deserves a happily ever after. She is fostered in East TN, but transportation is included in the adoption fee and provided by Rescue Riders LLC. Please let me know if you have any questions. Please email us for the link to the adoption application
