Story
This 10-year-old Maltese mix may have arrived as a scrappy little stray, but after some well-deserved TLC, he`s cleaned up nicely and ready to reign over a new kingdom. Neptune`s got the charm of a seasoned socialite — he`s friendly, attention-loving, and firmly believes every human exists solely to pet him (he`s not wrong). He gets along just fine with other easygoing dogs, as long as they match his distinguished, relaxed energy. No zoomies. He has a reputation to maintain.True, Neptune`s heart beats to its own rhythm — a murmur that requires daily medication — but his love? That`s absolutely limitless. He`s not a starter pet; he`s a finale pet. The grand, fluffy conclusion to your dog-owning journey.Neptune weighs 16.5lbs

Story
This cutie is BONNIE, a very sweet, initially shy,  3-year-old, 17 pound, female, Maltese/Poodle cross. After a couple days of settling in with her foster family which has adults and teens, they found Bonnie to be easy going, a  “go with the flow”  kind of dog in the home. Her foster home has a couple Bully breed mixes and a couple smaller mixed breed dogs; Bonnie gets along easily with all but her best friend is Kimbo (a little Terrier mix) who is also up for adoption.   Bonnie is housebroken. She is trained to use potty pads but is being trained to toilet outside on the grass and is doing well with that, in part because of the other dogs in her foster home showing her. Bonnie really enjoys spending time in the backyard. She is a bit of a barker so she’s not appropriate for apartment or condo living. Bonnie requires a calmer home that has another dog with whom to socialize and a securely fenced yard.    Because her first owners didn’t introduce Bonnie to other people when she was a puppy, it takes her time to get comfortable with new people. Taking things slowly with her is essential - and it works! Once Bonnie is comfortable, she is very sweet and friendly. She enjoys going for walks but she can be reactive, which is her insecurity and fear to unknown people. She would benefit from continued gentle training to help her not find the world such a scary place. Bonnie’s foster family is taking her for short walks to help her have positive experiences.    This dog has been examined by licensed veterinarians, provided inoculations, been tested for diseases, dewormed, spayed, and microchipped. Story
Little pup seeking the back of your recliner or couch to share. Introducing Teddy, a 2 ½ year old, 7-8 pound, Morkie (Maltese/Yorkshire Terrier cross) with a silky, soft coat requiring routine grooming. Teddy needed a few months to decompress and settle into foster care so we could get to know him and help him secure his forever home. This little guy’s personality is more like that of a Terrier; he’s independent, knows what he likes and doesn’t like, is playful, and loving to his people. Teddy does not trust people right away and will require time to adjust to the adopter. Teddy came to our rescue after his owner fled her home because of domestic violence issues. Understandably, he requires a very calm home, without children, and a patient, understanding adopter.  As you could maybe tell from the opening sentence, one of Teddy’s favorite places to lay is on the back of his foster mom’s recliner chair. He enjoys overseeing the activities of the house’s other dogs from his perch, having a good cuddle, as well as sleeping under his blanket. Teddy’s foster home has several small dogs in the home and he really enjoys playing tug and chase with them.   Teddy has some emotional scars from the life he lived prior to rescue, but he has made a lot of progress these past several months. We are hoping that you are that special person willing to give this boy a chance to become your best buddy. He deserves a wonderful new life. ADOPTION REQUIREMENTS: Must have a securely fenced yard, and an adult only household. This dog has been examined by licensed veterinarians, provided inoculations, dewormed, groomed, tested for diseases, neutered, and microchipped. Story
One of the nicest and sweetest dogs out there! This handsome, little fella is DEXTER, a wonderful, 6 year old, Maltese mix (possibly with Havanese) who weighs around 7 pounds and has an extremely soft coat of different grays. Dexter was stray found in deplorable condition with his coat matted to the skin requiring shaving off. His hair is growing back and will be long and luxurious again in time.      Dexter’s priority is spending time with his person/people. Dexter seeks out your attention and will snuggle up on your tummy or chest if allowed. He’s happy to share your lap too with other dogs; his one favor spot is sitting on a chair to look out the window. Dexter loves the companionship of other small dogs and does great with cats too. He does enjoying playing with toys. Dexter walks well on a leash, is housebroken, and crate trained. His foster mom crates him when she leaves the home.       Based on his behavior in his foster home, he is not a candidate for apartment/condo living due to his barking at noises; he is easily spooked by loud noises on walks like garbage trucks going by. We think this may be caused by him having been strayed and living outside for a period of time. He’s not an “adventure” dog - he’s more of a “home body.”  Dexter thrives in a home where there are other small, friendly dogs and someone home more often. He also enjoys a fenced yard.      This dog has been examined by licensed veterinarians, provided inoculations, been tested for diseases, dewormed, spayed, and microchipped; he is housebroken and crate trained. Disclaimer: This animal is not in Anderson custody. and is a courtesy post to help a member of the community rehome directly without shelter intervention. Any adoption inquiries should be directed to the owner at lewiseugene84@yahoo.com and/or (312) 593-3402. Anderson Humane makes no guarantees regarding medical or behavioral status of this animal, and the current owner is solely responsible for disclosing any challenges or concerns. Anderson Humane is not responsible for any unsuccessful adoptions. I am looking to rehome my 7 year-old Maltese who I’ve had since she was one year old. Her name is Princess and she has been a big part of my life and family m and is truly a sweet, gentle soul. Due to personal reasons and the care demands of another senior dog in my home who is also dealing with health issues, I’m no longer able to give Princess the level of care and attention she deserves. Princess does come with some challenges, and I want to be completely transparent so she can be placed in the right environment: • Bell’s palsy • Separation anxiety • Dental disease that will require ongoing care Despite these challenges, Princess is loving and bonds deeply with her person. She would do best in a calm, stable home with someone who has patience, compassion, and ideally experience with senior or special-needs dogs. A home where someone is around most of the day would be ideal. This decision comes from love, not lack of it. My goal is to ensure Princess is safe, cared for, and surrounded by understanding and kindness for the rest of her life. Please let me know if you can assist with Princess. Thanks so much! -Eugene & Keena Lewis
