Story
If you’re looking for a little shadow who wants nothing more than to be by your side, Bentley might just be your perfect match. At just 1½ years old, Bentley is a handsome Maltese/Poodle mix who has spent his entire life with one loving family. He’s an affectionate, well mannered little guy who loves to cuddle, especially if that means curling up around your neck like the world’s cutest scarf. At night, he’s happy sleeping with his people or in his kennel, and he’s comfortably crate trained when home alone. Bentley has excellent house manners and is reliably potty trained as long as he’s given regular opportunities to go outside. His dream home would have plenty of room to run, sniff, and burn off his playful energy before coming inside for snuggles. His favorite toys are stuffed animals, and he’s always up for a car ride, where he settles in like a seasoned road trip companion. He enjoys children and is eager to play, making him a fun little buddy for visiting grandkids. While he hasn’t lived with other pets and may bark when he sees other dogs, he’s otherwise an easygoing companion. He can also be a little vocal when meeting new people, but once he realizes you’re a friend, he warms up quickly. Bentley doesn’t shed, making him a great choice for those looking for a low shedding companion. His grooming has been maintained at home, and his soft, curly coat gives him that irresistibly cuddly teddy bear look. We think Bentley’s ideal home would be with a retired couple or family who enjoys spending time outdoors and can include him in everyday life. He’ll happily join you for adventures, then spend the evening curled up as close as he can get. If you’re searching for a loyal little best friend with a heart full of love and an adorable nickname like Bentley Wentley, Bentley is ready to steal your heart.

Story
Montee is a ~10 year old Maltese Pomerainan mix with a big personality. He’s a spunky, funny little guy who still enjoys short bursts of energy followed by long, cozy naps in the sun. He’s happiest right by your side, whether that’s laying at your feet while you work or supervising in the kitchen as your dedicated “sous chef.” Montee prefers women over men. He loves his little stuffed “babies,” enjoys car rides, and will always let you know when someone is at the door. No apartments please. Montee thrives on routine and prefers a quiet, predictable home. Dinner is at 5:00 PM sharp, and as an older gent he’ll need frequent potty breaks throughout the day. Montee has a few lipomas that don’t bother him, but he prefers to be gently cradled rather than picked up around his belly. He’s a true shadow dog who likes to keep tabs on his people at all times. He must go to a home with no young kids. He currently lives with a laid-back cat and a bunch of little dogs and does well, and has lived with a larger lab brother. He prefers women and may take a little time to warm up to men. Montee is a wonderful, loyal companion looking for a calm home to spend his golden years. Montee just got his teeth cleaned and is ready for adoption. Adoption fee is $450+tax, please apply at www.campcompanion.org

Story
Meet **Baxter** – proof that the biggest personalities sometimes come in the tiniest packages! Weighing in at just **5 pounds**, this little Maltese is convinced he's the king of the castle... and honestly, we're not here to argue. Baxter is equal parts cuddly lap dog and busy little explorer. One minute he's happily snuggled in your lap soaking up all the love, and the next he's off on an important mission, happily circling and investigating everything around him. After spending the first part of his life with a breeder, Baxter is officially ready to retire into the luxury lifestyle he's always deserved. Think soft blankets, cozy laps, tasty treats, and people who adore him—he's ready for all of it! Baxter was just neutered this week and is still working on his potty training and leash skills. He also hasn't quite figured out stairs yet, so he'll appreciate a family willing to help him build his confidence at his own pace. Until he is fully potty trained, he wears a belly band. Hopefully after all that testosterone is out of him, he will get it. This little guy gets along well with other dogs and would likely do just fine with cats and respectful children. He'd also be perfectly happy soaking up all the attention as your one and only. But is wonderful with other dogs. Now, let's talk about two very important Baxter facts: 📢 **First:** Baxter has opinions... and he isn't shy about sharing them! If you live in an apartment, condo, or anywhere with shared walls, keep in mind that this little man can be quite the barker, especially if you try to keep him away from you or blocked off. 🚫 **Second (and according to Baxter, the most important):** He absolutely refuses to be kenneled. If you try, he will file a very loud and lengthy complaint with management. Baxter is looking for a home that understands kennel life simply isn't for him and is comfortable managing him without one. If you're looking for a tiny companion with a huge personality, endless cuddles, and enough confidence for a dog ten times his size, Baxter just might be your perfect match. **Apply to adopt Baxter at CampCompanion.org.** His adoption fee is **$450 plus tax**.

Story
In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading that information, you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Gizmo is a wonderful little Shih Tzu and Maltese mix. He is 8 years old and weighs 11 pounds. He is learning how to overcome months of neglect and isolation in his former home and is slowly making improvements while receiving love and care. He came into rescue suffering from long standing ear infections as well as severe dental disease. He has received thorough veterinary care while in rescue, and his initial defensive behavior has now changed to that of a sweet, loving boy. He was just in so much physical pain that he didn’t want to be touched, especially near his head. Gizmo is house trained, and loves at last being able to roam freely in his foster home rather than being in a kennel for most of the day and night. He sleeps so sweetly with his foster mom at night, and during the day is quite the cuddler. He loves giving you kisses and showing affection. His foster mom is working on a simple solution for his food and toy guarding, which will resolve in time. Unfortunately, he does not like children so he must go into an adoptive without children. However, we have found that after getting to know an older child, he does become a bit more comfortable with them. So an occasional visiting child might be okay. Gizmo loves to be outside walking with you! He really needs lots of exercise, so walking 2-3 times a day is quite essential for good behavior and for bonding with you. Gizmo is a lovely little boy and longs for a permanent forever home. If you meet the following requirements, please consider applying for him: 1. A quiet, adults only home, without children, where someone is home much of the day. He truly enjoys being with his people. 2. A fenced yard, if possible, as he loves to run and chase. 3. A home without another dog or cat - he craves affection all to himself. 4. Be willing and physically able to take Gizmo on 2-3 long walks every day. He really enjoys the outdoors and especially walking. 5. A family who is understanding and patient who will continue working with him to overcome his trust issues around his food and toys. 6. A home within 30 miles of Eden Prairie, MN. 7. Attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held each September. Gizmo is neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. His adoption fee is $320.00 plus $28.88 sales tax for a total of $348.88. To meet Gizmo, please complete an adoption application using the website listed above. You can also meet Gizmo and other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota at the monthly Meet & Greet, held from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on the first Saturday of each month at Chuck & Don's, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., Bloomington, MN. Because of the Independence Day holiday, the July event will be held on July 11, with the regular first Saturday schedule resuming thereafter.

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Gary is an 18‑pound gentleman of distinguished age who has fully committed to the art of relaxation. He is, without question, the King of Sleeping. If napping were an Olympic sport, Gary would bring home the gold, the silver, and probably a commemorative snack. When he’s awake, he transforms into a slow‑moving shadow who follows his human around with the dedication of a very mellow bodyguard. He loves short strolls outside where he can sniff the neighborhood news, feel the breeze, and pretend he’s still a spry young lad. Then he returns inside to resume his royal duties: couch snuggling, belly‑rub requesting, and gentle snoring. Gary has a few special senior quirks—he’s partially blind, partially deaf, a little wobbly, and needs eye drops and daily pain meds. Stairs are not his thing, but being carried like the tiny prince he is suits him just fine. He’s working on potty training and does well on a schedule, especially since he sleeps through the night like a champion. He’s friendly with everyone, polite with dogs, and happiest in a calm home where he can nap in peace and enjoy his favorite hobby: eating treats. All treats. Any treats. Every treat. Gary is a gentle, affectionate, easygoing old soul who just wants a soft place to land, a cozy lap to snooze on, and someone who appreciates the simple joys in life—like snacks, sunshine, and long, luxurious naps. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.    ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Albany is a tiny Morkie with a big journey ahead of her and an even bigger heart tucked beneath her shyness. At just about 8- 9 pounds, she’s a delicate little soul who has survived more than she lets on. Missing most of her teeth, she sports a permanently peeking tongue, but she doesn’t let that stop her from enjoying life in her own quiet way. Albany is very fearful of human contact and still prefers to keep her distance, often scampering away when approached. She’s cautious with men, women, children, loud noises, and new environments—pretty much anything unfamiliar. But she’s slowly learning that safety exists, and she’s beginning to show tiny glimmers of trust: a tail wag, a quick dash toward her foster to sniff a hand, then a speedy retreat. These small moments are her version of bravery, and her personality is just beginning to come out.  When she goes outside, she likes to do the back scratch boogie, but only if no one is watching because well, she is still working on that confidence.   What truly brings her comfort is the company of other dogs. She blossoms around confident, friendly pups—playing, following their lead, and learning how to be a loved pet by watching them. A companion dog is essential for her continued progress. She would also do well with calm, patient adults who understand that trust for her will come slowly, in tiny steps, over time. This sweet girl is crate trained at night and sleeps quietly in her foster’s bedroom. During the day, she may bark a bit when crated but settles. Potty training is still a work in progress; she knows what she’s supposed to do outside but still has accidents, so diapers are helpful when she can’t be closely supervised. A fenced yard is required, as she is a flight risk and not yet comfortable on a leash.  Although she has started getting a bit better at it, she will still freeze when a car goes by so until she can master the leash, a yard will help keep her safe.   Despite her fears, Albany has shown moments of joy—playing with toys, interacting with other dogs, exploring the yard, and even showing a little goofy side. She has great potential with the right family: one that is patient, gentle, quiet, and willing to let her set the pace. With time, love, and a confident canine friend, Albany will continue to grow into the sweet, quirky little companion she’s meant to be.
