Story
Montee is a ~10 year old Maltese Pomerainan mix with a big personality. He’s a spunky, funny little guy who still enjoys short bursts of energy followed by long, cozy naps in the sun. He’s happiest right by your side, whether that’s laying at your feet while you work or supervising in the kitchen as your dedicated “sous chef.” Montee prefers women over men. He loves his little stuffed “babies,” enjoys car rides, and will always let you know when someone is at the door. No apartments please. Montee thrives on routine and prefers a quiet, predictable home. Dinner is at 5:00 PM sharp, and as an older gent he’ll need frequent potty breaks throughout the day. Montee has a few lipomas that don’t bother him, but he prefers to be gently cradled rather than picked up around his belly. He’s a true shadow dog who likes to keep tabs on his people at all times. He must go to a home with no young kids. He currently lives with a laid-back cat and a bunch of little dogs and does well, and has lived with a larger lab brother. He prefers women and may take a little time to warm up to men. Montee is a wonderful, loyal companion looking for a calm home to spend his golden years. Montee just got his teeth cleaned and is ready for adoption. Adoption fee is $450+tax, please apply at www.campcompanion.org

Story
Hello my name is Chai, I'm from Minnesota! One of the tricks I have is balancing on my hind legs! She knows how to sit as well, but that's boring! Loves to play with her toys Prefers to sleep in the bed with you but is okay in the kennel overnight. She just snuggles up in a little ball! It is the cutest thing. She can be a bit shy and nervous around other dogs (don't quite know about cats) but she may do best as the only pet or just needs slow and gentle introductions.

In addition to the following profile for this dog, please first read the Adoption Information at http://www.shihtzurescuemn.org/adopt.html to understand the process, requirements and timeline for adoption. An adoption application can also be found in the Adoption Info section. If, after reading the information you have any questions, please submit your question via e-mail and it will be answered. Please do not request a phone call. A personal phone call will only be made when an adoption application has been submitted and the foster parent wishes to consider the application. Thank you! Zoey is a seven-month-old Shih Tzu/Maltese mix with the perfect blend of playful puppy energy and sweet cuddle-bug charm. This adorable little girl is currently thriving in her foster home, where she spends her days playing fetch with neighborhood children, exploring the backyard, and curling up on the couch for snuggles at the end of the day. Zoey absolutely lights up when she hears kids nearby and happily runs along the fence to greet her neighborhood friends. She would love a forever home with a fenced yard where she can safely play, explore, and burn off some of her puppy energy. Like any young puppy, Zoey is still learning the ropes. She is smart, eager to please, and enjoys learning new things, but she will need a family committed to continuing her training and socialization. Puppy classes will help her build confidence and develop into a well-mannered adult dog. She already loves playing fetch — she’s just still working on the “bring it back” part! Zoey is also working on potty training and will need consistency, patience, and a regular routine to succeed. She currently goes outside every 3–4 hours and does best with a structured feeding and potty schedule. Daily walks help keep her happy and engaged. At night, Zoey sleeps peacefully in a crate beside her foster family’s bed, though she would happily trade that for a cozy spot snuggled up with her forever family. Zoey is looking for a loving home that understands puppy hood requires time, patience, and commitment — but the reward is a lifetime of love, laughter, and companionship. If you’re searching for a playful, affectionate companion to grow with your family, Zoey may be the perfect match for you! Apply today to meet this sweet little girl! The following are requirements for Zoey’s adoption: 1. Since Zoey is still a puppy and small dogs can live 16+ years, applications will only be accepted from age-appropriate individuals who will be able to provide the activity, care and comfort that Zoey will need for her entire life. 2. Someone who is home much of the day, since Zoey needs continued house training. She also thrives on the companionship of her humans. 3. A family who will actively participate in puppy training classes with Zoey and will provide the physical activity and stimulation that a puppy requires. Having a secure, fenced yard would be ideal. 4. Applications from a family with children over the age of ten who have demonstrated an understanding of and have experience in gently interacting with a small dog will be considered since Zoey seems to really enjoy her interactions with children. 5. Live within 30 minutes of Fridley, MN. 6. Agree to attend the annual Shih Tzu Rescue Reunion held in September of each year. Zoey is current on vaccinations, microchipped, and is on heartworm and flea/tick preventative. She is scheduled to be spayed June 23, 2026 and will be ready for her forever home after a short recovery period. We are currently accepting applications for her adoption and she can go to her new home once she has recovered from her spay surgery. Zoey’s adoption fee is $520.00 plus $46.93 in sales tax, for a total of $566.93. To meet Zoey, please complete an adoption application at the website listed in the first paragraph. Or you can also see her and the other dogs available for adoption from Shih Tzu Rescue of Minnesota by visiting with us from 10:00 a.m. to noon the first Saturday of every month at the Chuck & Don’s, 8537 Lyndale Avenue S., in Bloomington.

Story
Hello my name is Jojo, I'm from Minnesota! Jojo is a gentle, soft-hearted senior with so much love to give. At 13 years young, she’s the perfect blend of sweet and serene—happy to join you for a leisurely walk, then settle in close for a cozy afternoon. She’s wonderful with people of all ages, including children, and enjoys meeting new friends at her own easygoing pace. After some big life changes, Jojo has really found her footing. She’s doing great with housetraining on a consistent schedule (yes, even in the chilly weather!) and has proven to be a trustworthy little lady with free roam when home alone. She doesn’t ask for much—just a predictable routine, a calm space, and someone to share her days with. Jojo is the kind of companion who will quietly steal your heart. She thrives on gentle affection, soft moments, and simply being near her person. If you’re looking for a loyal, low-key best friend to keep you company through life’s everyday moments, Jojo is ready to be right by your side. From the Vet: Jojo has been in rescue for a few months now and TBB was able to determine that her GI symptoms were related to a condition called Cushing's disease. She is being well managed on a prescription diet and cortisol control medication called Vetoryl. Now that Jojo has a good management plan, we know that in the right home, she will be an amazing companion!

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. Thank you for stopping by to see me!  Please fill out an application to set up  a private meeting.    Gary is an 18‑pound gentleman of distinguished age who has fully committed to the art of relaxation. He is, without question, the King of Sleeping. If napping were an Olympic sport, Gary would bring home the gold, the silver, and probably a commemorative snack. When he’s awake, he transforms into a slow‑moving shadow who follows his human around with the dedication of a very mellow bodyguard. He loves short strolls outside where he can sniff the neighborhood news, feel the breeze, and pretend he’s still a spry young lad. Then he returns inside to resume his royal duties: couch snuggling, belly‑rub requesting, and gentle snoring. Gary has a few special senior quirks—he’s partially blind, partially deaf, a little wobbly, and needs eye drops and daily pain meds. Stairs are not his thing, but being carried like the tiny prince he is suits him just fine. He’s working on potty training and does well on a schedule, especially since he sleeps through the night like a champion. He’s friendly with everyone, polite with dogs, and happiest in a calm home where he can nap in peace and enjoy his favorite hobby: eating treats. All treats. Any treats. Every treat. Gary is a gentle, affectionate, easygoing old soul who just wants a soft place to land, a cozy lap to snooze on, and someone who appreciates the simple joys in life—like snacks, sunshine, and long, luxurious naps. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.    ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there***Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiries@underdogrescuemn.com> ADOPTION EVENTS:      Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend.  Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/adoptionprocess/   Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN.  All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at http://www.underdogrescuemn.com/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience.  If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website  www.underdogrescuemn.com/foster-applications  and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets.  All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet.  All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal.
