Please read the bio in full for answers to common questions. If you have a question not covered here, please email info@seniordoghaven.org. If interested in adopting, please complete an adoption application at https://seniordoghaven.org/adoption-process/. Because all of our dogs live in foster homes, meet-and-greets are scheduled only after a completed application is received. Adoptions must be within a reasonable distance of Wilmington, DE so our volunteers can conduct an in-person home visit. Meet Bootsie ! Bootsie is a 9-year-old, 12.5-pound little mixed-breed girl whose biggest priority is simple: her person.  Bootsie is an easygoing, laid-back girl who truly just goes with the flow. She’s happy to be wherever her person is and would love nothing more than to spend her days curled up beside you. She’s a total couch potato, enjoys cuddling, and doesn’t ask for much beyond companionship, love, and a comfortable place to relax. She’s also wonderfully social! Bootsie gets along with dogs, cats, kids, and other animals, and her foster mom says very little bothers her. She’s a quiet girl who rarely barks and is perfectly content to take life at a leisurely pace. Bootsie is still putting the finishing touches on her housebreaking, but she’s very close to having it down. Her foster family takes her outside frequently, and she’s making good progress. She’s mostly good on a leash and can handle a few stairs, but she does have stiffness in her back legs, so a home with minimal stairs would be best for her. Bootsie has also been dealing with allergies, and chicken appears to be a trigger for her, so her foster family is careful to avoid chicken in her food and treats. She’s currently taking medication to help with her back-leg stiffness and receives a probiotic as well. Bootsie doesn’t need a big yard and would be perfectly happy without one. What she really wants is a person who wants a devoted little companion by their side. She’s sweet. She’s chill. She likes everyone. She likes pretty much everything. And most importantly, she wants to be your girl. Could Bootsie be the laid-back little companion you’ve been looking for?

Story
Lady’s a 7yo 10lb Maltese mix. She’s dog selective, cat and kid 13+ friendly. She’s housebroken if kept on a schedule but will wear a diaper and use pee pads and crate trained. She’s good in a secure fenced in yard and/or going for harness leashed walks. She’s agile, smart, likes squeaky toys, people and going for walks but will bark at people, dogs and noises. She is easy startled so best to sleep in a dog bed on the floor so not to accidentally wake her while sleeping. Lady’s foster requires a calm home, where someone is home often, so not to be left for long periods of time, be an only dog, brushed/groomed often to prevent matting along with leadership, consistency, structure and to continue working on training. If your home DOES NOT meet these requirement’s please DO NOT put an application in. We will not call anyone whose home does not meet the needed requirements. Also, we will be concentrating on local to foster applications 1st since home checks and meets with all humans and animals in home is needed at meet. Our fosters are all volunteers so aren’t always able to travel too far. Lady as all dogs should have 2 weeks in their new home with just their people who live in the home and to not have people over for at least 2 weeks. Dogs need time to settle in and adjust to their new people and environment first so they can learn to trust them first. Lady takes medication for a seizure disorder and for her eyes. She’s spayed, vaccinated, HW negative and microchipped. Currently in Phila, PA. If your home meets the needed requirements and you’re interested in applying to adopt please do so at www.tprescue.org

Story
OLD LADY ALERT!!!Maggie came into the shelter as a surrender after being dumped as a vets office. She needed some TLC when she came in and got a shave down. She does have some medical challenges. As you can see, she has double cherry eye, but they don`t appear to be interfering with her vision or causing discomfort. She has arthritis in her back legs that make her a bit stiff walking but managed with pain meds. This girl isn`t ready to throw in the towel, but she does need a home that understands seniors. Sometimes she is cranky and wants to be left alone. She has been in foster and done very well. She does tend to guard her bed so getting her to get up and move can be a bit of a risky maneuver, but her foster mom has discovered she can be bribed with a treat. She also uses a treat for her meds, and it works great. Maggie hasn`t met a treat she didn`t love! She is staying in a home with other dogs and has only had one issue which was basically a quick back and forth then forgotten but still growls at them so we are saying a home with no other dogs for her. . She is a good old girl that deserves a home to live out her days/years in love and understanding. If you think you`re the one to give her this incredible gift, please don`t delay. Let`s get the best days of her life started!
