WISE is entirely volunteer-run and all of the donations made to our rescue go directly back to the animals in our care. By partnering with veterinary practices that support our work, we are able to save animals lives and restore them back to health. While some animals only need standard care, others require more extensive veterinary or behavioral care. Regardless of which dog you are applying for, we are looking for adopters to support our program with a minimum donation of $850. The donation may or may not be directly applied to care of the dog you're adopting but rather goes toward supporting all of the dogs in the rescue. We appreciate the understanding of our potential adopters. Please keep this in mind prior to applying.NAME: DolomiteBREED: MalteseDOB: Dec 10, 2025 (11 weeks)GENDER: maleHome Recommendation: Dolomite would do best in a home that can provide a safe, structured, and loving environment. A puppy-proofed space, a consistent routine, and patience for training are important. Dolomite will do best in a home that can keep him active and engaged, where he can burn off his energy and show off his playful, adventurous spirit. An active home that can offer supervision, playtime, and positive reinforcement will help him grow into a confident, well-adjusted dog.Personality: Dolomite has the sweetest energy and brings such a gentle, happy presence wherever he goes. He absolutely loves to play, but hes wonderfully mild-mannerednever too much, just the perfect balance of fun and calm. Once hes gotten his playtime in, hes more than content to curl up right beside you for cuddles and quiet time. Hes fantastic with people of all ages and especially great with kids, showing a patient and loving nature. Truly, hes been a little puff of pleasure and a joy to have around.KIDS: Yes, 8+DOGS: YesCATS: YesTraining: Dolomite is currently working on basic puppy skills, including potty training, crate training, and leash exposure. Hes also doing a great job learning his bathroom routine and is getting the hang of going outside on a timed schedule. For his very first night in the crate, he did so well! He is learning household routines and will benefit from consistency, positive reinforcement, and continued practice. With patience and structure, he will continue to make great progress.WHY DID THEY COME TO WISE: Puppy mills overbreed to the point where they produce more dogs than they can sell. Dogs like Dolomite were rejected for reasons ranging from birth defects, being born with the wrong color fur or eyes, or just simply because no one wanted to purchase them. When the dogs are not sold, the puppy mills destroy them, and it is legal to do so. WISE has recently partnered with a group to save these unwanted dogs - healthy, unhealthy, and/or with birth defects - who are destined to be killed for no reason.Visit WiseAnimalRescue.org to fill out an adoption application.Adoption areas include: New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Maine, Vermont, Virginia, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, Rhode Island, and New Hampshire.

Story
Lola is a 15-year-old, 10½ lb small companion dog (likely Maltese/Shih Tzu mix) with a sweet, affectionate nature and calm presence. After a lifetime with one loving owner, she’s seeking a quiet home where she can be a close companion again. She is in good health for her age, mobile, and engaged. Lola enjoys short walks, exploring at her own pace, and staying near her people—whether following you around or resting beside you. She is house trained, sleeps through the night, and uses her crate as a comfortable space. She walks well on a leash and settles when left alone for short periods, sometimes barking briefly before calming. Lola is gentle and people-oriented. She may be shy at first but bonds closely and enjoys being held. She can manage stairs slowly and may appreciate help onto furniture. She has some age-related hearing and vision loss but adapts well. With limited pet exposure, she would do best in a calm, consistent home.

Story
Hi!  My name is Mattie and I am looking for a forever home. I was part of an operation to rescue over 80 small dogs in order to put a backyard breeder out of operation as we were not being very well taken care of.  One of those rescues reached out to BCAA to see if they could help some of us and they said yes ... yeah!  We were all pretty scared when we first came into foster but everyone has been so nice to us and with some TLC and time, we are slowly coming out of our shells.  I would love to find a  quiet home, maybe with a friend or two to help me learn the ropes.  My foster mom was told I am a "malti-poo" (part maltese & part poodle); she just says I'm super cute.  I weigh just a little over 9lbs and at around 18mos old, I shouldn't get any bigger.  I have gotten along with all of the other dogs I have met and even share a crate with two of my friends without any issues, including eating side-by-side.  I have done well in my crate without any accidents, barking or tearing up of any of our bedding.  I have never had a leash on before & they do scare me so I will need a physically fenced yard in order to take care of my business.  If you would like to meet me or one of my friends, please fill out an application which can be found at www.bcaaofnj.org.Interested in adopting this pet?Click here for BCAA's on-line Application! PLEASE NOTE: Our adoption fee helps to cover our expenses and includes all shots, *age appropriate*, distemper and rabies, fecal check, spay/neuter, heartworm test, grooming, and in many cases dental and also the fee we pay when we rescue from a shelter.
