Story
It was 5am. The call went out: Send the Police! 🚨 Adorned in protective gear, the police approached the house timidly - unsure what they'd find inside. The homeowner had called frantically. A monster may be lying in wait...As the door sprung open, a demon emerged: fluffy, 12lb, 8 year old Christopher. Street name: Christo-FURY.Look at him the wrong way, and he'll have something to say. Interrupt his nap and you'll never hear the end of it. While he may look like a perfectly cuddly lapdog, he is ANYTHING BUT. That 5am call to the police about a 12lb dog terrorizing her? That's true...and, that's how Christopher finds himself with us now. A wannabe police dog, this Maltese/Shih Tzu mix found himself on the outside looking in at the Police Dog Academy. HIs bark found insufficiently fearsome, and his tiny frame unfit for the riggers of police life. Now: all bark, no badge. Many things offend our little ChristoFURY. On the short list: men, children, strangers, neighbors, delivery people, repairmen, vets, groomers, sharing food, big or energetic dogs.Christopher definitely has some good qualities, too. He's quite a charmer with the ladies - often able to hide his devious side. Christopher gives plenty of warning if you learn his rules and listen to them. He's a good walker, non-shedding, and smart. Overall, Christopher is in great health other than a mild heart murmur which doesn't require medication. Beyond a patient one, we aren't sure what home will suit this little devil best. He may accept the presence of another chill dog, does not want kisses goodnight or to be woken up too early in the morning, and can be bribed with chicken and cheese. If you are still reading and thinking this sounds like a great dog to adopt, please make an appointment with a good therapist(KIDDING), and apply at RBARI.org/dogs so we can broker a meeting with ChristoFURY.If you think you can "fix" him, don't bother - those relationships never work out if you aren't ready to accept each other flaws and all, and he's done with trying to fit into society's convention of what a "pet" should be and looking to live life on his terms - with the rap sheet to prove it. Primary Color: White Age: 8yrs 9mths 3wks

Story
Sophie is a tiny 15 year old Maltese Poodle mix weighing just under 8 pounds. She is polite gentle and very sweet. Her favorite place is simply near her person. She coexists well with other small dogs and has an easygoing presence. Sophie came into rescue when her owner could no longer care for her. It took her a few days to adjust but she is settling in beautifully and showing her soft affectionate personality. Her eyesight is good and her hearing is still fairly strong for her age. She does have a heart murmur but is not on any medication at this time. She doesn't love being left alone so we are hoping to find her a calm quiet home where someone is around most of the time. Sophie is a lovely little soul looking for comfort companionship and a soft place to land for her golden years. ADOPTION PROCESS: 1. Story
Pop Quiz ❓ 🤔 Your child “falls” on your dog. The dog is limping and not bearing weight on his back leg, now growling and snapping when touched or approached by the child and when anyone tries to touch his back end, and clearly freaked out and in a lot of pain. Do you A: Bring the dog to the vet immediately for pain medication and x-rays? B: Wait and let him limp around a few days. Then call an extremely full local county shelter with over 100 dogs to immediately surrender him since he’s suddenly become aggressive and the child is now scared to approach him, You probably got the answer wrong. It’s clearly B. A no-brainer of course 🤷‍♀️. Don’t feel bad, we would have answered wrong too 🤣 Well little Poochie was surrendered to us and shockingly we brought him right to the vet. He was even more terrified, an already unsocialized little guy now in severe pain having to be handled by strangers. His x-rays revealed a completely dislocated hip that requires surgery to repair and get him comfortable again. He’s just a baby, purchased from a pet store as a puppy as a “designer” Malshi (Maltese/Shih tzu), 14lbs and just over a year old. He’s very scared and distrustful right now but we are hoping once he is out of pain and gets his bearings in a new place he will learn to trust and be a sweet little guy once again, at least with those he trusts. He’s had his FHO surgery and is recovering nicely and starting to use his leg a little more every day. He’s warmed up to us and is a lovable spunky puppy with those he trusts, but needs time to warm up to strangers. Please consider a donation toward Poochie’s medical bills, a huge unexpected expense but turning this scared injured pup away was not an option for us, and we know we can rely on you, our followers, to help him heal ❤️‍🩹 Email njwoof@cs.com if you have a calm adult home with no “falling” kids and would like to open your home to him once he’s ready Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Senior Abigail is back on the market and cuter than ever 😍 Don’t let her crusty old lady looks fool you, she is not a sleepy lapdog for Grandma and likes to be up and about where the action is. She prances and dances on her walks and around the yard and is always right at your feet gazing up at you lovingly and pawing you to share your meals or do something fun. She’s fine with other little dogs that aren’t aggressive to her or would be fine as an only; she’s all about human attention. She changes color depending on her stage of hair growth like a chameleon; when she was shaved down she appeared white but now that her hair is growing back she’s actually tan. Maybe if we let her hair grow long enough she will turn purple 🤔. She is non-shedding so will need grooming and was a matted mess when she originally came to us. We think she’s some kind of Maltese/yorkie/poodle type mix, about 8-10 years old, and 12lbs. She came to us with multiple low grade cancerous mammary masses that were removed but should be monitored for future recurrence or spread, and has chronic dry eye that needs prescription eye drops longterm which she’s very cooperative for. But otherwise in great health, bounces around like a much younger dog and is a friendly sweet little girl.
