Story
We aren't sure how to advertise Jimmy exactly, he's a tiny but complicated little dude for sure. Complicated personality, complicated medical diagnosis, and complicated prognosis. Where to begin?!Little Jimmy was surrendered to a local animal control because of his medical issues- chronic diarrhea, intermittent seizure or collapsing events, low heart rate, scarfing food but continually losing weight... he came to us slowly wasting away and dying in front of our eyes as we had multiple vets and specialists sending out every test they could think of to diagnose this little medical mystery. We were told his parents were brother and sister (grr) and another littermate had similar but milder issues. Liver shunt? Ruled out. Congenital heart defect? No, his heart issues were secondary to his other systemic illnesses. Based on his symptoms, response to treatment, and ruling out basically everything else he could have, it came down to PLE and EPI were making this frail little guy waste away and fail right in front of us. He had a very guarded prognosis and it was weeks before we could finally breath a sigh of relief and not expect a call each day that he had passed away, and he's finally put on weight and is better than ever! All his other symptoms have slowly resolved and all were secondary to these GI diseases, which will require life long medication and management. What is PLE and EPI? Protein Losing Enteropathy and Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency are both congenital conditions that we're keeping Jimmy from absorbing nutrients properly. Basically even though he was eating he was slowly starving to death. With the perfect cocktail of immunosuppressive medications, steroids, a special diet, and digestive enzymes he looks and feels like a new man and is getting some of the puppy energy he never had. His condition will need lifelong treatment and close monitoring, and it's too soon to know if he will live a relatively normal lifespan or have relapses or other congenital issues, but right now he's the best he's ever been and he is living in the moment. Personality wise- he's sometimes a bit selective about who he likes and how and when he wants to be handled. Some people he loves and kisses, demands to pick him up. Others he's a bit crankier with and will let you know to keep your distance. This delicate tiny guy will need an adult home that understands delicate little toys dogs and their quirks. We are looking for a local home for little Jimmy so we can continue to have him see our vets for follow ups for the time being and will get him started with a supply of all his medications for at least the first year post adoption. Please submit an application to meet little Jimmy if you would like to help our very special survivor. Primary Color: White Age: 1yrs 3mths 1wks

Spayed or Neutered,
Story
Update: Little Indiana Jones really had us fooled. We thought he was too young, friendly and normal to have ended up with our rescue. But as we have gotten to know him better, his inner demon dog has emerged. 👹. This 8lb maltese definitely has a dark side that can rival even our master of evil, Ray (literally, they have had a couple fence fight show downs and he does NOT back down 🤦‍♀️). Overall he’s a happy guy, tail always wagging and demanding attention. We suspect he was kept caged or crated a lot or teased behind a fence, as most of his ferocity seems connected to being behind a barrier or put in a crate. He was a scrawny hungry guy when we got him and has gained weight, but still thinks he has to protect his food so will need to continue to learn that being approached when eating means chicken or cheese will rain from the sky, not that you are going to fight him for his kibble. Trying to tell him what to do or stop him from doing what he wants will be met with a flash of (now pearly white after his dental cleaning) fangs 🦷 and some possessed-sounding noises 😖. Luckily Indiana is very praise and food motivated, so it’s just a matter of tricking him into thinking he wants to do the things you want him to do and rewarding him for doing them, rather than trying to best him a duel of any sort. Typical dude, you have to make him think he’s outsmarted you and got his own way but that it was his idea all along. 😜 He likes meeting other dogs of all sizes, though might be best living as an only dog, unless you have a chill tolerant dog who won’t mind this tiny Napoleon’s laws and creeds. Kids are a definite no for him, he would have no tolerance for their behavior and having to fend off bratty children could definitely be part of why he is the way he is. Indiana Jones is about 4-6 years old we believe, almost a solid 9lbs now that he’s a healthier weight, and should have many years to possess your home and soul. If you like little dogs with big personalities, email njwoof@cs.com to meet him in Northern NJ This intrepid little guy was exploring the woods all by himself and no one ever came looking for him 🤷‍♀️. He’s a friendly little Maltese, skinny at just under 8 lbs and we think somewhere between 3-6 years old. He barks at first but quickly warms up and likes attention and walks. He likes other dogs too, a bit too much actually- since he wasn’t neutered he can’t keep his mind out of the gutter around them if you know what we mean 😉 He should be much more pleasant around them once his hormones settle from tomorrow’s neuter 👋 👋 ⚾️ 🏀. He does go to the bathroom outside when walked but may have some accidents/mark and need a belly band initially. He seems like a nice easy going little guy for the most part and will be a sweet little companion. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet him in northern NJ by appointment Due to COVID-19, we will not be holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we can schedule socially distant appointments with a specific dog outdoors at our vet’s office: VCA Morris Plains Animal Hospital 3009 Rt 10 East Morris Plains (Denville on GPS) NJ 07950 Now is the perfect time to open your home to a needy dog! Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
This adorable senior came to us with the most mismatched name ever- Monster 👹. Really?!For a super friendly happy 12 year old mostly toothless dog with a face like that that dances on his hind legs for attention!? We have quite a few dogs who answer to their more fitting nicknames of Monster, but it definitely doesn’t suit this happy dude. We are changing his name to Snuggle Monster and he is just that! This social butterfly was one of 4 senior dogs given up when their owner could no longer care for them. He doesn’t act his age and is a happy active guy who also loves to cuddle, and gets playful with other dogs. He is a bit Frankenstein’s Monster in the looks department and we aren’t quite sure what his mix is… he has the teeny tiny little face and head of a Maltese but the wrong body attached. He is a chunky 16lbs with long legs. He can be a bit vocal but it’s just because he wants you to pay attention to him- he doesn’t seem to know he’s a senior and except for having so few remaining teeth he could pass for half his age. Email njwoof@cs.com to meet SNUGGLE Monster in Northern NJ Since COVID-19, we are no longer holding our Sunday adoption events until further notice, but we are scheduling meet and greet appointments with a specific dog or dogs at our meeting spots in Northern NJ. To streamline adoptions, all communication before, during, and after the adoption process is done through email only: we have limited volunteers able to return phone calls. Submit an application from our website www.secondchance.petfinder.com to speed up the adoption process and email any questions to us at njwoof@cs.com. Please check your email regularly for next steps. All our dogs reside in foster care in Northern NJ until adoption and we do not have a central shelter location. We are a small all-volunteer organization focused on rescuing local dogs from area shelters, as well as accepting some surrenders and puppy mill rescues.

Story
Hi! My name is Tootsie. I am a really sweet, adorable little dude, and I am just looking for my furever home! I am about 2 years old (born around 8-30-21), weigh about 11 pounds, and I love dogs, cats and kids. I am doing so well with all of them in my foster home in South Carolina! I am neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, dewormed, current with all vaccines (as appropriate for my age) and on flea and heartworm prevention. I am all ready to be adopted :) My adoption fee is $550, and covers all of my vetting, and includes transport within the next two weeks, if my new family lives in the northeast USA. ***PLEASE DO NOT FILL OUT AN ADOPTION APPLICATION IF YOU ARE NOT PREPARED TO ADOPT WITHIN THE NEXT TWO WEEKS**** Please visit https://www.apply.daybeforetherainbow.com/ to fill out an adoption application form or email my rescue at taryn@daybeforetherainbow.com! Story
Mr. Pickles is a senior Maltipoo (we’re guessing) whose owner had to go to a nursing home, which left him with nowhere to go. He can’t see or hear very well but he does have tons of personality and he is a such a sweet little guy. His age was guesstimated to be 14 years old. Mr. Pickles is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, and heartworm negative. He walks well on a leash, rides well in a car, and loves to sleep in the bed with his foster mom. Mr. Pickles is being fostered in Arkansas. His adoption donation is $440, which includes his $165 transport fee. If you would like to provide a forever home for this precious little guy, please complete the first step in the adoption process by filling out an online adoption application. You can find a copy of that application here. We sometimes receive a lot of interest on an animal and can't always reply to each email in a timely manner. An application does not obligate you to adopt from us, but it does show that you are serious about the adoption process. Please remember we are all volunteers. After you submit your application, please allow a few days for a volunteer to review your application. During this time your vet reference will be checked and a volunteer with determine if it is the best match for you and the animal. Applications are not approved on a first come, first serve basis. We match up the best home for the animal, so even if the pet has other applications, this does not mean he/she will be adopted to that home. Once your application has been approved a volunteer with contact you to set up a phone interview. This is the perfect time for you to ask any questions you have about the adoption process and the animal you are interested in.

Story
Hey folks!  I'm Sinclair and I'm looking for my forever family so let me tell you a little about myself.   According to my foster mom I'm "the perfect houseguest", she's a smart lady so who's going to argue with that!  I get along really well with my foster sisters, sometimes we even play tug-of-war; that's one of my favorite games to play!  I am house trained and crate trained.  I go into my crate when I need some alone time but other than that you can find me snuggled up with my foster sisters or on my foster parents' lap - they say I'm a really good snuggler. I love exploring their fenced in backyard and basking in the sunshine, that's a real treat! So what do you say, call me, I'd love to meet you! Sinclair came into a Texas shelter in a neglected state but we have included Before & After photos to show you what he looks like after a quick groom and a mani/pedi. Sinclair is about 5 years old and weighs under 16 pounds.   If you'd like to meet Sinclair, please fill out an adoption application at www.northstarpets.org and be sure to mention his name, SINCLAIR TX!September 25, 2023, 5:53 pm
