Story
Meet Corey! Although maybe his name should actually be Shadow. Because wherever you go, Corey is probably right behind you. Corey is a 4-year-old, 16-pound Miniature Poodle who is sweet, cuddly, playful, and very good at being your little buddy. Once he gets to know you, he’ll happily follow you around the house, curl up next to you, and keep you company wherever you happen to be.He loves toys, playing ball with his people, and going for walks. Give him a securely fenced yard and he’ll show you just how fast those little legs can go! He’s also perfectly happy playing with his toys by himself - and occasionally likes to give a favorite toy a little nibble. (No judgment. We all have our hobbies.)Corey can be a little shy when meeting new people, but he warms up pretty quickly. He does best with a calm, patient approach and isn`t a big fan of loud voices or unexpected noises. Once he realizes you`re a friend, though, you`ll have a hard time getting rid of your new shadow!He`s a smart little guy, too. Corey is housebroken, crate trained, walks nicely on a leash, and knows words like “walk” and “treat.” He`s also working on his “sit.” Basically, he seems to know that good things happen when he pays attention to his people.Corey has met cats and is pretty much meh about them - no big deal either way. He can be intimidated by bigger dogs, but does better with smaller, calmer dogs once he gets comfortable. He`d be perfectly happy being your one-and-only, but could potentially live with another small dog who has a compatible personality.He`s been around kids ages 9–15 and has done well. Younger kids haven`t been tested yet, but respectful, gentle kiddos may be just fine.A few important Corey facts:Baths? No thanks.Grooming? Weirdly enough, totally fine with brushing and clippers.Yard zoomies? YES PLEASE.Cuddling? Also yes. Always yes.Following you everywhere? You bet. He`s a Shadow, remember?Corey does need a very secure fenced yard because he can be a bit of a flight risk. But with a safe place to run, a little patience, and a person (or family) who appreciates having a furry sidekick around, this sweet boy is ready to settle in and be someone`s very best friend.If you’ve always wanted a dog who thinks “Where you go, I go” sounds like a perfectly reasonable life philosophy, Corey may be your guy.My adoption fee is $300. AARF wants me to tell you that their adoption package covers all expenses needed to prepare dogs like me for our forever homes. By the time you meet us, we’ve already been spayed/neutered (if age appropriate) and microchipped. We’ve been checked by a veterinarian, and we’re up to date on age appropriate immunizations against rabies and DHLPP (distemper, hepatitis, leptospirosis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus). We’ve been tested for heartworm and other tick borne diseases (4DX), and we’ve started our heartworm and flea preventive medications. Some of us have had extensive surgeries, dental work, or other necessary procedures. AARF is committed to getting all of us entirely ready for a happy, healthy, love-filled life!
