Story
I am 53 lbs, and I am looking for my forever home. Adoption Donation: $450 Shy is a beautiful girl with a stunning brindle coat and a gentle, sensitive soul. True to her name, she can be a little shy at first and may need a minute to warm up to new people. But once she feels safe, her sweet personality shines through. Shy loves affection and will happily lean into you for pets once she trusts you. She has such a tender heart and just wants to be close to someone who cares about her. She came to us when her owner sadly became homeless, and the change has been scary for her. Shy is simply looking for a safe, loving home again — a place where she can relax, feel secure, and be someone’s beloved companion. With a little patience and kindness, Shy will reward you with quiet loyalty and lots of love. All dogs are microchipped, neutered, current on all vaccines, heartworm tested (if age appropriate), and up-to-date on preventatives at the time of adoption. All household members and any dogs from the household need to be present to be able to adopt. A photo ID will be required at the time of adoption. Appointments are recommended. All applications are considered general. Specific animals are NOT put on hold for adoption. When you visit, our adoption counselors will be able to make suggestions based on the type of pet you are looking for and help you find the best fit for your family. Animal House Shelter cannot guarantee the breeds of the adoptable animals. The animals are posted on the website as the breed or breed mix based on their physical characteristics they most resemble. We also cannot guarantee the ages of our adoptable animals or how large puppies will be when fully grown. We look forward to seeing you soon! Story
Meet Mia Bella! Mia Bella is a beautiful 2-year-old Boxer/Mastiff mix weighing 66 pounds. This sweet and loving girl came to Anderson Animal Shelter from a partner shelter in Louisiana along with her nine puppies. Now that her puppies are growing up, it's Mia Bella's turn to find the loving forever home she deserves. Mia Bella is a sweet, loving girl with a gentle soul. She can be a little shy when meeting new people, but once she feels comfortable, her affectionate personality truly shines. Give her a little time, and she'll happily come over for cuddles, pets, and quality time by your side. Mia Bella loves companionship and enjoys showing her affection in her own quiet way. While treats aren't quite her favorite thing yet, she's still discovering all the good things life has to offer, and with time, she may become a treat enthusiast too! When Mia Bella arrived at Anderson Animal Shelter, she tested positive for Heartworm. The staff believes that the best place for Heartworm-positive dogs like Mia Bella to recover and complete treatment is in a loving forever home. If you choose to adopt Mia Bella, our clinic staff will support you every step of the way by answering questions and providing guidance throughout her treatment. The process generally takes about three months and involves some simple at-home care to help keep her safe while she recovers. The final step is a follow-up test six months after treatment begins. The Heartworm treatment process is highly successful, and the staff anticipates that Mia Bella will make a full recovery! It's also important to know that Heartworm can only be transmitted from animal to animal through mosquito bites. If you're looking for a gentle, affectionate companion with lots of love to give, Mia Bella is ready to meet you! Stop in and meet my cute self in person during our adoption hours. For more information, email info@ahconnects.org or call us at 847-697-2880 x: 0, and the staff will be happy to help you. All of our dogs and puppies go home spayed or neutered, microchipped, and heartworm tested (for dogs 7 months and older). They are also up to date on core vaccines, as well as heartworm, flea, and tick preventatives. Each adoption includes a 3.5-pound bag of dog or puppy food and a free vet exam at one of our participating veterinary partners.

Story
Hi, I'm Beignet! Thanks for checking me out! I know my cute face is hard to resist, but here's the scoop: I'll need a lot of your time and attention as I grow up into the amazing adult dog I'm destined to be! I'm looking for a forever family that will help me with socialization, training (yes, that includes house training!), and plenty of exercise. And let's not forget the chewing and teething-I'm still learning what's okay (and what's definitely not okay) to put in my mouth. So, be ready for some puppy-proofing! Don't forget those vet visits! I'll need to stay up to date on my boosters and vaccines, which means a few trips to see my favorite vet in the first few months. But trust me, all that effort will be worth it when you experience the endless love, puppy kisses, and pure joy I'll bring into your life. So, if you're up for the challenge and the fun, why not come meet me in person? Stop by during our adoption hours. For more details, email info@ahconnects.org or give us a call at 847-697-2880 x: 0. The friendly folks here will be happy to answer all your questions! Can't wait to meet you and start our adventure together!

Story
Meet Sam! Sam is a very handsome pup, estimated at about 3 years old. He’s thought to be a Mastiff Mix, but, rather small for the breed. Sadly, Sam found himself at an overcrowded noisy animal control facility down south. He deserves a forever home and family of his own, and we want to help him get there!! This precious pup absolutely loves people and is good with older kids who are respectful of dogs. We expect he is good with lower energy dogs. Dogs who are too active might scare him and cause him to react. Sam absolutely loves belly rubs, and treats too! He's a little rough around the edges in terms of training but clearly is eager to learn. Sam is in overall good physical shape however he does have some vision issues causing him to sometimes miss things coming his way….this is why we expect he’d be scared by higher energy dogs, and high-activity youngsters. Sam is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm negative and on preventative. We would still like to get Sam to an eye specialist for a comprehensive examination of his eyes/vision. If you’d like to add Sam to your family, please contact BAARKDogRescue@gmail.com or 847-852-0895.

Story
Sir is a great, gentle giant. He is great with kids and is very friendly. Sir really believes he is a puppy and likes to act like one. We had another dog, a pomeranian, and they were great together. The pomeranian passed, and I started to have children. We purchased Sir when he was 8 weeks old in Aug of 2021. He was born on June 26, 2021. We honestly want the new home to be a dog lover and to take care of Sir. We can't keep him, not because we don't want him, but our family's health is important. I gave birth, and 2 of my children got allergies, and my husband developed some as well. It's gotten hard to keep him and try to handle my family's health issues. My baby is not even a year old, so only so much can be done to help ease her.

Story
6 years old (estimated) Neutered Male  106 lbs. Has done well with other dogs  No known experience with cats or kids  Meet King, an extra-large teddy bear with an even bigger heart! This handsome boy loves attention and is happiest when he's spending time with his people, soaking up pets and showing off his signature big smile. King enjoys exploring the outdoors, especially when he can take his time sniffing around and checking out all the interesting scents along the way. He also likes going for walks, although King prefers to keep them on his own terms. When he's decided he's had enough, he'll happily sit down and anchor himself right where he is, letting everyone know the adventure is over for the day. With his lovable personality, laid-back attitude, and charming grin, King is sure to bring plenty of smiles and laughter to the lucky family who welcomes him home. The online adoption listing websites require that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of the dogs we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog's individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess.June 6, 2026, 11:55 pm
