Story
Meet Bowie Bowie is a 2-year-old, 19-pound sweetheart whose story is one of heartbreak, resilience, and hope. He spent days wandering the streets after being abandoned, searching for the family that never came back for him. Neighbors watched him roam from gate to gate, walking right down the middle of the street, desperately hoping someone would notice him. Covered in oil, dirt, and grime, Bowie survived by hiding under parked cars and digging through trash, all while waiting for someone to care. Thankfully, that day finally came. With a little patience—and a few hot dogs—Bowie happily walked right into the trap, and his lonely days came to an end. No more sleeping under dirty cars. No more wondering where his next meal would come from. No more searching for the people who left him behind. Despite everything he has endured, Bowie has remained incredibly sweet, loving, and forgiving. He is affectionate, friendly, and ready to leave his past behind for a future filled with love and security. Bowie is neutered, microchipped, and current on all of his vaccines, and he is more than ready to find the forever family he has been waiting for.Adoption Fee: $450Applications can be found at www.secondleashonlife.orgBowie has spent enough time wondering if anyone would notice him. Now he’s looking for someone who will love him for the rest of his life. Story
Donegal arrived at South LA Shelter as a stray, and when no one came forward to claim him, we happily welcomed him as a Frosted Face. Estimated to be 10 years old and weighing just 13 pounds, Donegal soon set out on a two-week Frosted Fling so we could learn more about him in a home environment. Well, he proved to be such a good houseguest that his fling turned into a long-term foster placement while he waits for his forever family. Could it be you? His foster mom shares: "When Donegal first arrived at my house, I honestly thought he might be both deaf and blind. But he's proven to be incredibly adaptable. He seems to see shapes well enough to confidently hop up the step into my house, and while he doesn't respond to most noises, he does pick up on finger snaps, which has become a great way to redirect him or help him find his way. He learned my scent and now perks right up when I get home and walks over to the door to greet me. Donegal is the sweetest little shadow when I'm home. If I’m staying in one place, he will find the closet bed to curl up in. If I’m up walking around or cooking in the kitchen, he hangs by my side. Despite wanting to stay close when I’m home, he has no separation anxiety - he curls up in his bed and snoozes until I get back (have left him up to 4 hours). Some of Donny's favorite things include: 🐾 Being held like a baby every night before bed. He knows the routine now and stands by my nightstand after his evening potty break waiting for his nightly cuddle. 🐾 Admiring his reflection in the sliding glass door. (I'm not sure how much he can actually see, but I regularly catch him hanging out there.) 🐾 Making new friends. He's a little flinchy at first touch, probably because he doesn't fully hear or see people, but within seconds he's leaning in for pets and soaking up the attention. He’s made friends with people ages 8-80 and ignores my aunt’s dog when they hang out. 🐾 Leisurely strolls around the neighborhood with lots of stops to sniff. 🐾 One of his newest favorite activities is standing in front of the fan and letting the wind blow his ears back. I think it reminds him of our evenings watching the sunset with the sea breeze, another of his favorite activities. If you're looking for a low-key companion who's simply happy to have a comfy bed (bonus points if it looks just a little too small for him), Donny might just be your perfect match!" Story
How did this sweet boy - estimated to be around 9 years old - end up as a stray at Chula Animal Services, with a dirty, matted coat, overgrown nails, and needing to have 28 teeth extracted? When no one came for Picnic during the required hold period, we welcomed him as a Frosted Face. This 15 lb. cutie is super sweet, great with other dogs, and is a wonderful buddy on outings. Picnic is a little too interested in cats to live in a home with them. While we don't know anything about Picnic's past, it's clear that at a minimum, he has suffered from neglect, which makes his trusting and loving nature all that more special. Picnic needs a patient and understanding family who will give him time to settle in and feel secure in a new home. Might it be you? Picnic is currently enjoying a two-week Frosted Fling, where he's receiving lots of love and attention in a home environment while we get to know him better. Here's the scoop from Picnic's foster mom: 'Picnic is a very sweet little guy who is so easy to handle. He's happiest when he's included in whatever you're doing. He would thrive with someone who is home often or can bring him along to work or on adventures. Picnic loves to cuddle, is easy to bathe, has a great appetite, walks nicely on a leash, and rides perfectly in the car. When he gets a spurt of energy in the evening, he enjoys enrichment like lick mats and puzzle toys The one-week mark turned out to be a major milestone for Picnic. He stopped needing to go potty so frequently, and now I only use a belly band if I'll be gone for more than a couple of hours. He still misses me when I'm away—my husband says he looks around the house searching for me—but he's no longer in that high-adrenaline, overwhelmed stage of adjusting to a new home. Picnic has also settled beautifully into his bedtime routine and quietly goes into his sleeping area without any fuss. Picnic is a wonderful companion on outings. We've visited the park several times, where he enjoyed both the car rides and his walks. He also accompanied me to a winery, met another dog, and did great. At home, he's just as content following me from room to room or curling up for a nap nearby. Whoever commits to Picnic for life is going to gain an incredible companion. He's the kind of dog who makes you wish he had a twin because one just doesn't seem like enough! Beyond that initial adjustment period is a loyal, loving, funny, and wonderful little sidekick who is ready to become someone's best friend." Story
Adorable little Norman Nova came to Chula Vista Animal Care Facility as an unneutered stray in need of some TLC. His coat was dirty and badly matted, his nails were overgrown, and he was covered in fleas. After receiving a much-needed grooming, Norman was clearly more comfortable. Shelter staff watched the sweet, friendly little boy that had been hiding beneath all that neglect was revealed. While in their care, he was also neutered. We welcomed Norman as a Frosted Face on July 10th. He is estimated to be 10 years old and weighs 13 pounds. Norman is just beginning his next chapter with us. We'll share more about his personality as he settles in, and we get to know him better. Be sure to check back soon for an update! To meet Norman, please email: placement@frostedfacesfoundation.org

Story
Birtie was surrendered by her family of 14 years because they were moving and couldn't take her with them. They shared that Birtie was a sweet girl who was loving and patient with their children and a great buddy to their dog who passed away in 2025. Birtie went on a Frosted Field Trip to soak up lots of love with one of our foster families while we learned more about her in a home environment. Her foster mom shared: "Birtie is a very mellow, very cuddly sweetheart! We took her to a restaurant to enjoy the football game with family, and she lasted in a stroller until we finished eating. She slept through the night in bed with my husband and me. She laid her head on my chest a few times throughout the night - it was the sweetest." Birtie currently lives in a Foster home while she waits for her forever family. Might that be you? To meet sweet Birtie, please email: placement@frostedfacesfoundation.org
