Story

Dutton is being fostered in PA. He is making good progress with housebreaking! Dutton is a sweet, gentle, slightly timid little man who is going to make a wonderful addition to some lucky family. He is very easy-going and loves to sit with his person. His transformation since first coming into his foster home has been remarkable! He was able to get into the vet quickly to have a dental with about 10 teeth removed and then, after a little recovery time, a much needed double enucleation, which means his eyes were removed. As he recovered, a completely different personality began to appear. Instead of being shut down and not reacting to verbal interactions, he started following his foster mom around the house, sniffing and exploring his environment and even barking when meals were being prepared. Dutton is happy to sleep in a dog bed on the floor but really enjoys a lap so hopefully his new family will like to cuddle. Dutton has many foster siblings, male and female dogs, big and small, and he is very indifferent with all of them. He also shows no interest in the two cats he lives with. Dutton eats kibble soaked in water and he has a super appetite. He is ok in the car and does better traveling in a dog bed with sides to help him feel secure. His foster mom works full time and part time jobs which works for Dutton since he is a great nap-taker, but he cannot make it several hours without pottying in the house. He is kept in the kitchen where it's ok if he has an accident. He certainly understands that being outside means it's potty time. It's anticipated that if Dutton is able to have a potty break every 3-4 hours he will catch on quickly to eliminating outside. He has actually shown subtle signs indicating that he has to go that his foster mom is just picking up on. This boy deserves a loving forever home with a ton of one on one time. BDRA has voted against the use of electrical fencing effective immediately.

MEET BLANCA! Meet Blanca, our enchanting senior miniature poodle, a true testament to resilience and joy! At the golden age of 10-11 years, Blanca was surrendered to a local veterinary clinic for euthanasia in June 2023. The staff instead reached out to City of Elderly Love for help and Blanca landed a loving foster home! It was there that she was diagnosed with diabetes which was contributing to her health issues and blindness (cataracts caused by unregulated diabetes). Blanca has since gotten very healthy, her diabetes is managed with twice daily insulin injections which she tolerates well, and she's even had her cataracts surgically removed and her vision restored! Needless to say, Blanca is a resilient little lady who can't wait to continue to live the best years of her life. Blanca is currently living in foster care with other dogs ranging from 17-97 lbs. and gets along with them well! Though she isn't afraid to just walk over them to get where she's doing or to offer a verbal correction to tell them to beat it if they're being too pushy with her. She has also spent time with cats and children, both of which she gets along well with. We do recommend she live with older children just due to her size, occasional old lady grumpiness when she's woken up (same) and her medical needs. Blanca treasures her beauty sleep and will nap several times a day. She prefers to stay around her people, including during potty breaks so she isn't really the type of dog who will happily hang out in the yard without you. Her favorite spot is right on the couch next to you! She also loves going for leisurely strolls in the neighborhood and car rides. Blanca does well when crated while you're at work! Blanca has been fully vetted since coming to the rescue. Due to her diabetes and surgery to restore her vision, Blanca does require daily medication. She receives an insulin shot with breakfast and dinner which she tolerates well. She is also on a prescription diet which helps regulate her blood sugars, and needs daily eyedrops to keep her new peepers healthy. Blanca requires more frequent potty breaks due to her diabetes and wears diapers in her foster home in case she has an accident. Blanca may require more frequent than average veterinary visits to manage her blood sugar and adjust insulin doses. Her future family will require some patience while she adjusts to their routine and schedule. Blanca is available for adoption through City of Elderly Love! Angel's Retreat recently took in 12 small breeder dogs from a mill that was shutting down. All of these dogs are small adults ranging from 3-7yrs old. These ladies have never lived in a home before and will need lots of love and TLC. They are not house trained. Most of them need extensive dental surgery as well as spays which will be covered by the rescue, but may require you to bring your adopted dog back to the rescue after adoption. Meet Marigold! Marigold is a 5.5 year old spayed female Miniature Poodle who weighs 18.5 lbs. After the breeding kennel she called home was finished breeding her, she was surrendered to All 4 Paws to find a better life. Moving into a foster home was a huge change for Marigold. She'd never felt the softness of carpet under paws or the love of a family. Experiencing new things every day can be scary, but Marigold is doing her best to be brave. Her ideal home will have a quiet environment so that she can feel safe. Despite being afraid, Marigold has been nothing but sweet and doesn't have a mean bone in her body. Judging by how fast her tail wags when her foster mom talks to her, it's clear she is desperate to trust. She is quiet in her crate and often finds comfort in having her own space. She is already doing well with house training, but being on a leash is still daunting. Her ideal home will have a quiet and secure space for her to practice being on leash. She seems inquisitive about the outdoors and will follow her canine foster brother around the backyard cautiously. Marigold has always lived among other dogs and seeks comfort in their company, so having a canine companion in her forever home will be important in her growth. She doesn't seem to mind cats at all. Marigold has long legs, a gorgeous curly coat, and the kindest eyes. In time, we have no doubt this beautiful girl will flourish - all she needs is a chance.
