All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption Fee: $650   The Spice puppies are a litter of 10 week old Miniature Schnauzer x Husky mixes who are ready to add a sprinkle of cuteness and a dash of love to your home! This litter came to DPS at 4 weeks old with Mama Spice after an accidental litter led to a homeless little dog family. Dad was much bigger than Mom, we suspect, judging by the look and size of babies. This litter is 4 girls and 1 boy. We expect the puppies to be in the 20-25 pound range when they reach their adult weight. Looking for a new seasoning? Bring home a Spice puppy today!     Cinnamon (F): Cinnamon is a girl ready to live everyday to the fullest! She cuddles hard, she loves her toys, and she can’t wait to take on the world with you! Cinnamon is the quarterback of the puppy football team, charging fearlessly around the yard as she explores her surroundings. Cinnamon is the perfect puppy in terms of her energy level. She is playful and energetic until she is ready for a long snooze on the couch. She is an expert at finding the comfiest nap to curl up in as she gets her snuggles. Cinnamon is super smart and has already started picking up on a few tricks. If you have snacks she is ready to perform! This fluffy cloud of sweet, puppy energy is so eager to please you. She draws all the attention when she prances into the room, being passed around as people coo over her. There’s no spice as sweet as our Cinnamon!  Cumin (M): Cumin is an affectionate, snuggly puppy who is ready to make the world his playground! Cumin loves cuddling and is often found rolled over on his belly looking for rubs or finding a cozy spot to nap. While he loves to check out his surroundings (this dude is a world class couch spelunker), he is just as inclined to seek out the comfort of his humans. He is the perfect mix of playful and mellow. Cumin will thrive in a home where he can be your valued companion. He is adaptable and will fit in seamlessly to just about any kind of home. Cumin has striking blue eyes that make him stand out from the pack. He has such a calm demeanor and a deep affection for his family which makes him such a great buddy. Cumin is full of personality and charm and he can’t wait to bring a lifetime of laughter and love to his forever home!  Ginger (F): Ginger is an adventurous and curious puppy who can’t wait to bring the zest to her forever family! She loves to explore the world around her and it is absolutely hilarious to watch her brain work through problems in real time (why do sticks keep appearing in my yard)! Ginger loves cuddles and she loves her people. She would adore a home who wants to check out all that California has to offer: from sunny beaches to shady forests to banks of snow. Ginger is the class clown of the bunch, making goofy little noises even when she sleeps. She has the perfect level of mischief while still being as sweet as sugar. Ginger is always the winner at hide and go seek, finding places to squeeze into where her siblings can’t find her. If you’re ready for an infusion of flavor, pick up some Ginger today! Paprika (F): Paprika is the star of every gathering, making everyone fall madly in love with her from the first moment! This gal loves to romp around the yard, exploring all the smells and sticks the grass has for her. Paprika likes to cuddle her siblings but when she smells adventure she is off! Paprika adores her people and has such a goofy, sweet temperament. Her foster family has crowned her the “pick of the litter” (but don’t tell her siblings). Her pointy little ears adorably fold back when she’s flashing her puppy dog eyes and she makes such an adorable picture as she greets you. She just wants to be your best friend and she knows the world is ready for her to take it on! Paprika promises to try all the snacks, take on all the trails, and take time to cuddle you. What more could you want! Thyme (F): Thyme is a curious and smart puppy who loves cuddles almost as much as she loves her toys! Thyme is the leader of her siblings, always eager to play and romp around the yard. However, when she is ready for a rest she is snuggling her way into your lap and snoozing the hours away as you scratch behind her ears. Thyme is the best of both worlds temperament wise. She is playful when it’s time for fun but also knows when to chill out. She’d be a great hiking buddy or as a companion for a movie night. Thyme is so special and will bring endless joy to her lucky forever home. Thyme also loves a mirror and will check herself out in the window! How hilarious. Thyme is a total charmer with a personality absolutely bursting out of her body. She will bring such delightful adventures to her forever home!     The puppies start their morning around 6-7 AM with a trip outside to practice going potty outside. They tumble back in for breakfast and then get some one-on-one cuddle time for a bit before they are ready for their morning nap. After they nap, they cycle between playing with toys, chasing each other around the house, and investigating every blade of grass in the yard. They have lunch around 12 PM and then spend more time playing and sleeping through the afternoon. Once the family comes home from the day, they have their dinner at 5 PM. In the evening, the puppies spend some more time playing before they start to wind down from the day and get some more cuddles. They sleep in a pen overnight.  The Spice puppies have been well socialized with dogs in their foster homes. Their foster homes have been hard at work introducing them to people of all ages. Adoptive families should be prepared to continue training and socialization to ensure the pups are well-rounded adults. We know these puppies will have you falling in love from first glance because how could you not! Don’t delay, add one of these Spices to your spice rack today!      The Spice puppies are only an option for homes that have owned a dog of their own in the last three years. Kids in the home should be over the age of 7.September 18, 2024, 9:21 pm

Mama Spice arrived at our rescue with her babies who quickly overtook this petite gal in size. Poor Mama and whichever neighborhood Dad she found love with. Now that the babies are ready for adoption, Spice can’t wait to find a home of her very own. This little gal has fabulous ears, a petite little body, a sunny outlook on life, and a personality absolutely bursting at the seams! While she has a hair coat, she is not an option for those with allergies as she does shed. Ready for a life of sugar and spice? Adopt Spice today!      Spice is a sweet and loving lady who is as adorable as she is fabulous! She is a huge cuddler. Her main goal in life would be in your arms 24/7 as you hold her like a baby. All Spice wants is a life by your side, following you from room to room as she watches what you get up to. Once you settle in, she finds the comfiest spot in the room and snoozes. She takes any and every chance to get pets and cuddles, curling on your lap and giving you sweet kisses. She is the perfect size for a brunch date or a trip to the coffee shop for a pup cup. Everyone you meet will coo over her, so prepare to make new friends wherever you go! Spice loves zooming around on the beach with her tail wagging at the speed of light. She sometimes plays with her foster siblings but seems to be more of a lounger than a toy-driven dog. The cutest thing Spice does? Dragging her blankets around the house as she looks for the best nap spot. What a total charmer!  Spice starts her morning with a walk on the beach with her foster siblings around 7 AM. She comes inside for an 8 AM breakfast followed by a well-deserved treat. She spends her day lounging around the house in her dog bed or on the couch with her siblings. She also loves following her foster mom around the house as well, hoping for dropped snacks or extra cuddles! She goes for an evening walk at 5 PM along the beach as the sun sets, coming inside for dinner around 6 PM. In the evening, she hangs out in the living room with her foster parents as they unwind from the day. Once she goes out for one last potty, she heads to her dog bed for the night.  Spice gets along well with dogs of all sizes, big and small. She also gets along with the resident cat, who is bigger than her. She loves meeting new people as well! Spice walks well on the leash and greets the neighborhood pups politely. She is working on her house training and crate training and is making great progress. Spice’s dream family is one ready to cuddle her and make her the center of their world. If you’re looking for a lap dog, you’ve met your match! Pick up your dream Spice today! Update from the foster home: Video update of training progress 1 (Sit and Leave-it): https://youtube.com/shorts/KOLTS0hvyws?feature=share Video update of training progress 2 (Sit and stay): https://youtube.com/shorts/OnOilxANHCA?feature=share Video update of training process 3 (Crate Training): https://youtube.com/shorts/9wa_vqGNHbI?feature=share   Week 1: Initial Assessment of Foster Dog (on first few days): I picked up Spice on 8/27 with my dad from her previous foster family, and during the car ride home, she didn't make any noise at all. Spice seemed super adorable but a little shy. Spice is very quiet and only whines when she wants to be let inside the house from a backyard potty break or out of her crate. Spice walks well on a leash when I take her for walks and barely pulls at all, although she always seems very curious about the world and almost as if she is searching for something.   Week 2: Training assessment and goals for the next week: Spice learned 'sit' after two days, and she picked up on 'leave it' right away. She also learned stay very quickly. She seemed a bit reluctant to go into her crate on command so I plan on working with her more and positively reinforcing going into the crate. She likes to sleep in her crate in the evening and will go there herself when tired, just not on command.   Week 3: I mainly worked on crate training Spice on command and rewarding her for going into her crate. I also reinforced 'sit' and 'stay' as she seemed to be forgetting them. My training goal for next week is a safety training one -- Spice has a bad habit of rushing out of the door when she sees someone new or someone she likes, so I am hoping to correct that.   Video update of training progress 1 (Sit and Leave-it): https://youtube.com/shorts/KOLTS0hvyws?feature=share Video update of training progress 2 (Sit and stay): https://youtube.com/shorts/OnOilxANHCA?feature=share Video update of training process 3 (Crate Training): https://youtube.com/shorts/9wa_vqGNHbI?feature=share       Spice is an option for homes with prior dog-owning experience. Kids in the home should be over the age of 10 due to her small size. September 18, 2024, 9:21 pm

Pickleball was rescued from the shelter by one of our volunteers. We have no idea how a dog this incredible landed behind bars but we knew we had to jailbreak him and that we did! Pickleball weighs 28 pounds and he is full of love and smiles. Since he is a mix, he does not have a true hypoallergenic coat but he could be an option for those with light allergies. Serve yourself some Pickleball today!    Pickleball is a loving and happy dude who can’t wait to show the world how amazing he is! He loves sitting by the window as the world goes by, but he also loves cuddles and a game of fetch. He is the perfect companion for a long hike, a camping trip, a trip to the coffee shop, or a movie marathon on the couch! Pickleball is known to roll over onto his belly immediately upon meeting a new person, encouraging them to give him all the pets and snuggles. He also loves toys of all kinds. From tennis balls to Lamb Chop, as long as you have a treasure chest of goodies he will make it his own! Pickleball is super smart as well and is eager to please. He is the perfect example of how you can teach an older dog new tricks! Pickleball can even bring you closer as a family, as he will rope everyone into evening playtime in the yard! If you are looking for a low-maintenance dog that is ready to offer you the very best friendship you could hope for, Pickleball is the perfect choice!  Pickleball starts his morning with a stroll around the block at 7:15 AM. Once he gets home, he enjoys his breakfast followed by a long nap. Once he’s up, he plays a few rounds of fetch while his foster parents start their day. He spends his days hanging out with his people or lounging in the backyard. He also loves sitting by the window and watching the world go by. He gets another game of fetch in the afternoon and heads out for his long afternoon walk around 6 PM once the weather starts to cool. He has dinner upon his return around 7 PM. In the evening, Pickleball enjoys soaking up cuddles and kisses from his foster people. He watches TV with them and plays with his ever-expanding collection of plush toys. After one last trip out for potty before bed, he heads to his crate for the night at 10 PM.  Pickleball gets along well with dogs of all ages and sizes. He would be a good solo dog or as an addition to an existing dog. He loves his people, old and young! Pickleball is working on his leash walking skills but would benefit from some additional training. Pickleball is house trained and crate trained. He is such a delightful presence in the home of his foster people and they absolutely adore him. You won’t ever want to leave the courts once you adopt Pickleball!      Pickleball is an option for any home, regardless of prior experience. He would be a fabulous first-time dog. We were contacted by a good neighbor when their friend had an accidental litter of puppies. We agreed to take in these adorable pups and away we went! This litter is 3 boys and 1 adorable leading lady. We expect the puppies to be in the 12-16 pound range when they are fully grown. If you’re ready for an adorable scare, bring home a Scream Puppy!      Billy Loomis (M): Billy is a snuggly puppy who is a true Mama’s Boy! While his siblings race off into adventure fearlessly, Billy tends to hang back until he’s ready to join in on the fun. Billy loves a good belly rub and can spend hours on his back as he soaks up all the pets and snuggles his people have to offer. Billy loves being held like a little baby and has been known to curl up in the pocket of a hoodie and snooze the hours away. Billy is so sweet and his puppy dog eyes make him impossible to resist. Trust us, you won’t even be able to try. As his fictional counterpart once said, “it’s all one great big movie”, and our Billy is ready for his starring role in your family! Once you meet Billy, he will cuddle his way into your heart and you’ll never want to let him go!  Roman Bridger (M): Roman is Mr. Personality and he shines in every scene he’s in! Roman loves attention and charges into every unoccupied lap with a desire for as many pets as he can get before his siblings catch up. Roman is the first out of the pen in the morning and greets the day with a wagging tail. Roman loves to play and has fabulous puppy energy. He is also a professional parkourer and leaps over sticks with ease. When Roman is ready for a nap, he curls up with his sister and adorably snores for hours. Every room Roman enters he makes his own. With his adorable little white beard and his wagging tail, he is truly a showstopper. Roman is adored by his foster family and unlike his fictional counterpart, his life is the opposite of tragic! Cast Roman today!  Stu Macher (M): Stu Stu is a crowd favorite confident puppy with a heart of gold and a smile on his face! Stu is a smartiepants and learned how to sit in exchange for cookies within a day of entering his foster home! Stu is the most laid back of his siblings and is most often found curled up in a warm lap as his siblings race around the yard without him. He can still get down with the best of them though and will tumble through a pile of leaves as he chases after a toy (or one of his brothers). Stu has gained a ton of confidence in his foster home and it has been a delight to watch him blossom as the days go by. You’ll never accidentally hit our Stu with a phone, because he’s going to be curled up in your arms during any call! If you’re ready for a new best friend with a killer set of puppy dog eyes, bring home Stu today!  Sidney Prescott (F): Sidney is the solo gal of this litter and she runs the pack like the true star she is! Sid has an amazingly goofy personality and makes everyone in the house giggle at her antics and activities. Sid knows how to get attention and make a name for herself outside of her rowdy brothers. She loves playing and figured out the mechanics of fetch super quickly! What a smart cookie! Sidney knows that life is her movie and that her people are her supporting actors. She loves to run into a room with a smile on her face as her tail wags a million miles a minute. There is no such thing as a boring day with Miss Sid brightening it up! Don’t let this amazing gal find another film crew, bring her home today!      The Scream puppies wake up at 7 AM and chase the morning sunshine as their pen is cleaned out from the night. After they have their zoomies, they have breakfast at 8 AM. Their days are spent in a cycle of play and nap as they explore the world around them. Once their human foster siblings come home from school, they delight in playing in the yard and soaking up snuggles. They love chasing each other around and generally being goofy and adorable puppies. They have dinner in their pen at 5 PM and then partake in some evening zoomies. Once they start to wind down, they soak up cuddles on the couch with their people. They fall asleep around 10 PM and end their night in their pen in a big puppy pile.  The puppies have been well socialized with other dogs and love their canine playmates. This litter will benefit from socialization and training, like any good pup! Our amazing foster home has been working hard at giving them the skills they need and their forever homes will have a good base to build on. With patience and consistency, we know the Scream puppies will be regulars at your horror movie marathons in no time! If you’re ready for the adventure of a lifetime, cast one of our Scream puppies in the role of your new best friend today!       The Scream puppies are only an option for homes that have owned a dog of their own in the last 5 years. We are looking for separate homes for each puppy. Kids in the home should be over the age of 8.September 18, 2024, 9:21 pm

Udon was rescued off the streets of Southern California where he was living as a stray. A good citizen picked him up and brought him to one of our volunteers and the rest was history. After a few baths and a good brushing, he was looking as good as new and ready for his second chance. If you’re ready for a delicious bowl of adorable dog, order Udon today!       Udon is a sweet and loving little guy looking for his person to help him blossom. It took him a few days to get comfortable in his foster home, but once he felt safe he started showing his people how amazing he is. He loves belly rubs and will lounge next to his people on the couch as they read or watch tv. He’s also a huge fan of scratches and getting his coat brushed until it’s shimmering. Udon is super smart as well and would be a fabulous dog at any training class. You might be surprised to hear, due to his smaller size, that this dude could be a fabulous running buddy. Once he gets the zoomies there is nothing that can stop him from chasing a toy or a bumblebee around the lawn. He’s still building his confidence but as his personality comes out we’ve seen how much potential he has. We’ve even started to see some glimmers of silliness as he sticks his little tongue out. The world wasn’t as kind to Udon as he deserved in his past life but we know he will grab his second chance by the paws and not let it go. Udon’s favorite discovery? He loves listening to Taylor Swift! He’s ready to become a full Swiftie! This bowl of adorable pup is just amazing.  Udon wakes up at 7 AM and heads out on his morning walk with his foster sibling. He comes home for a morning meal and then shows off his zoomies until he is ready to settle down for a morning nap. He gets a few short walks during the day to stretch his legs and do his business. Udon has an afternoon snack at 1 PM and then spends some time zooming around the house with his collection of toys. He sometimes hops on the couch and gets some cuddles from his people. After the workday ends, Udon gets a longer walk before he has his dinner at 6. In the evening, Udon chills in the living room and unwinds until he is ready for bed.  Udon lives with a resident tiny dog right now and has built his confidence watching him. Our ideal placement for Udon is as a companion dog to a resident pup. Udon loves his human teenage foster sibling. Udon walks well on a leash but would benefit from some additional training. Udon is the kind of dog that will require patience as he settles in. Once you’ve gained his trust, he is yours forever. If you’re ready for a faithful and loving companion, bring home Udon today.      Udon is only an option for homes who currently own a dog. Kids in the home should be over the age of 12. September 18, 2024, 9:21 pm
