Story
My ex husband adopted him when he was 3 years old only but then he had some skin issues that we have to get him medication to help him and then my ex husband wanted to return him to the shelter but I stopped from doing it. Now that we got a divorce after how many years of being together. I had to move out of his house with my daughter but I could not bring my dog due to the apartment restrictions for pets. If only our new house allows us I will. And one thing too I am a single mom. The dad of my child does not want to give child support. He was nice to keep our dog but he told me that he is my dog and not his so I have to pay for everything that my dog needs. Financially right now I can’t do it anymore. I am really struggling as a single mom but I do not want to give him up at the shelter. He is such a good boy and is potty trained. He is older now and I just want a good person with a good heart to adopt and take good care of him. Please help a single mom and an older dog

Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $750 Lupin is a 9–10 month old, 13 lb Mini Schnauzer mix who came to DPS from a shelter after being found as a stray. When he arrived, it was clear he’d had a rough start— his coat was patchy from neglect, likely tied to malnutrition and fleas. With good food and care, his coat is already growing back in and is on its way to being healthy and beautiful, just like the dog underneath it.   Lupin is a busy little guy who wakes up each day ready to tackle a full agenda. He typically starts his mornings around 7am with a potty break, followed by a thorough inspection of every room and every person in the house to make sure he knows exactly what’s going on. He’s often too excited to eat breakfast right away, but once his rounds are complete, he happily settles in to eat. From there, his day is a mix of playtime, exploration, and rearranging the house to his liking— any small mat, rug, or dog bed may mysteriously relocate from one room to another until Lupin deems the décor acceptable.   While morning walks aren’t part of his current routine, that would be an ideal outlet for his early-day energy. By late morning, once the sun is warm, Lupin can usually be found stretched out on a patio chair, soaking up the sunshine. He absolutely loves being outdoors and will happily spend hours sunbathing, coming and going as he pleases. Throughout the day, he rotates between playing with toys, chasing the resident dogs, lounging outside, and snoozing indoors. He eats dinner around 5pm, starts to wind down by about 8pm, and goes to bed in his crate around 10pm, where he sleeps soundly through the night.   Personality-wise, Lupin has blossomed beautifully. In only a couple days, he transformed into a confident, self-assured house dog who knows what he wants and how to get it. He enjoys giving lots of kisses and is very friendly with people, but he’s also independent and perfectly happy exploring or playing on his own. He’s affectionate without being clingy and enjoys companionship without needing constant attention.   Lupin lives with two resident dogs— one large and one medium— and has done wonderfully with them. At first, he was polite and gave them space, but now that he’s comfortable, he loves playing chase and engaging in tug-of-war with toys. He’s also met other small dogs and confidently greets them. He hasn’t been tested with cats. Lupin lives with two children, ages 9 and 11, and has been fantastic with them. He loves kids and is friendly with new people who come into the home.   He is playful and medium energy, with a nice balance of independence. He enjoys playtime but is not hyper or overwhelming, and he’s never bouncing off the walls or demanding constant activity. On walks, Lupin is easygoing—he doesn’t pull and prefers to take his time sniffing and investigating everything along the way. Walks tend to be slow and curious rather than fast-paced, and he’s attentive to other dogs without barking at them.   Lupin is fully housetrained and learned incredibly quickly. He was housetrained in about a day and figured out the dog door within a few days. He now lets himself in and out as needed for potty breaks and sunbathing sessions. Before mastering the dog door, he clearly communicated his needs by standing at the patio door or ringing bells attached to the handles. He is crate trained at night but does not require a crate or pen during the day. If introduced to a brand-new area of the house, he may have an accident at first, but gentle redirection works well and he learns fast.   Like many puppies, Lupin does enjoy chewing, especially on items left within reach. Shoes and socks are particular favorites, though he has not chewed furniture or larger household items. Redirection with toys works well, and his chewing appears to be typical puppy behavior, possibly mixed with lingering teething. He does not dig in the yard and is not an excessive barker— he may bark briefly if something catches his attention or if the other dogs bark, but overall he’s fairly quiet.   What sets Lupin apart is his independence paired with his sweetness. He’s easy to live with, comfortable being left alone for reasonable periods, great with other dogs and kids, and happy to do his own thing. Lupin is a charming, resilient little dog who’s ready to enjoy the good life he’s always deserved.January 23, 2026, 2:33 pm

Story
My name is Rusty and I’m looking for my perfect home. I’m a sweet and lovable pup, 8 years old and weigh 13.8 pounds, we think he is mixed with Schnauzer. I came to AFC in March of 2024. I came from a hoarder home where 87 dogs were living. I’ve had a long road learning how to be a normal dog but I’m very precious and sweet if you give me a little time to get to know you. If you sit on the floor with me, I will climb into your lap and cover you with snuggles. I imagine I would be just as happy in your cozy recliner. I may need some more house training but I do go in and out on command. When the staff says “Go Potty” I go right out the door. I can use the doggie door too. I’m not a real fan of baths and I hate the blow dryer but I tolerate it. Luckily my scruffy fur is pretty easy care. With a little patience and love, I will learn how to walk on a leash. I’m neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. Finding a home with other dogs will definitely help Rusty continue to learn and thrive as a pampered pooch. We have a Facebook page and hope that you will “Like” us at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61561870361467 see postings of other dogs. If we need to look something up later and you used a different email we are often not able to find it. 2. Adopt a Pet and Petfinders ask you to send us an enquiry. This always delays our response. (Why) a. Our biographies are always very detailed. Therefore sending an enquiry asking us to repeat what it says in the biography causes a lot more work and delays our response. b. We are a small non-profit and do not always have the help to answer as many enquiries as we get. c. Again our Biographies are very detailed and if you just click the link near the bottom of their bio you can fill out an application which we will respond to. 3. For the AFC website (scroll down to the bio at the bottom it says (apply to adopt today- click that link) www.animalfriendsconnect.org 4. For Petfinders ( scroll down to the biography then click the adoption link) http://animalfriendsconnect.org/adoption-application-dogs/ 5. Story
Sparky is a delightful 1.5-year-old Cairn Terrier mix known for his energetic and lovable nature. He greets everyone with a wagging tail and a sparkly personality, making him a joy to be around. Sparky enjoys playing fetch, going on long walks, and spending quality time with his family. He is friendly and social, getting along well with other dogs and children aged 8 and up. As a great walking buddy, he loves outdoor activities and is mostly potty trained, though still improving. Sparky is learning commands like “sit” and “shake” and is very affectionate, enjoying kisses and snuggles. He is doing very well on a mild medication regimen for seizure prevention. While he still has some playful habits, such as nibbling fingers and occasionally ignoring commands, he is a quick learner with patience and training. Sparky is looking for a forever family to share his joyful moments with. Please complete our application on our website, 1luckydogrescue.org or contact Patricia 925-787-5825 for more information. It is helpful if information about the type of home that you will provide is included if emailing us.
