Story
Lana is a 3-year-old, 13-pound female schnauzer mix from Tijuana! Lana is a gentle, snuggly, playful pup. She has adjusted very well during her time in the city. Lana enjoys cuddling up with her toys, sitting on her foster parents lap, and going on short walks around the neighborhood.
She is working on learning "sit" and other commands. During her time with her foster family, she has been working on her housetraining. She has not been using her pee pads, but in only a couple of days she has made great progress with outdoor potty training. She is a very quick learner and has easily adapted to her new environment.
Lana was found on the side of the road by our partner after being hit by a car. She has undergone two surgeries to heal her leg and walks with a limp (looks like a cute little hop), which may or may not go away with time. Despite this, Lana is very easy to walk on a leash. She has attached quickly to her foster family and always stays by their side on walks. Her tail is always wagging, she is eager and excited to go on her walks. Her injury does not seem to have any impact on her stamina or enjoyment during walks.
Because of her injury, her forever family will need to continue working with Lana to reinforce and advance the progress she's been making. At first she was very protective of her injured leg and had a fear of being picked up, but after only a day or two of cautious interaction she has become trusting of her foster family and allows them to pick her up. She needs someone willing to be patient and gentle with her as she still has some phantom pain and nervousness around strangers. However, once you gain her trust, she loves to be held and even rolls over for belly rubs.
Lana has done well when left alone during the day, she has mild separation anxiety and will whine for a bit after being left alone, but she quickly settles down and spends most of her alone time sleeping on her bed. She loves to be cozy with her foster family and can often be found with sleeping with her arms wrapped around her favorite toy.
Lana is looking for a medium active family. She appreciates downtime, but also loves to walk and play fetch. She is very playful and loves to chase after her toys, but due to her limp she may not be able to go for very long walks or hikes. She would do great with or without another dog in the home. She gets along fine with her canine foster brother, but prefers to play with her human family. Lana has not been exposed to children, but she is very docile so we believe she would do fine in a home with children.
Vaccinated for rabies, DHPP, and bordetella. Neutered, heartworm negative, and microchipped. Current on flea, tick, and heartworm prevention.
