Story
***NOTE: This pet is currently at the shelter in Republic, WA, and can be delivered to an approved adopter on our 4/11/26 adopted pet transport to Monroe, WA to begin a 30-day trial placement – part of our distance adoption program.*** Considering adopting? The first step is to complete our online Adoption Application at http://forgetmenotshelter.org/application Please do not call the shelter; do the application first. Meet Tahoka, a magnificent 4 year old Great Pyrenees who is truly a giant "floof ball" of pure love and affection. Typical for his noble breed, Tahoka is a rather large dog with a heart to match his size, and he spends every day proving that some of the best things in life are found in unexpected places. He originally came to us as a stray whom nobody claimed, but it is clear that he was always meant to be someone’s loyal companion. Tahoka has the most remarkably kind eyes that seem to speak directly to your soul, constantly saying, "Please, just pet me." He is the definition of a "velcro dog" who simply wants to be right by your side, whether you are relaxing on the couch or moving about the house. He is curious about kitties but might want to chase them, so slow introductions and VERY dog-savvy cats would be required for him to join a home with cats. He likes people of all kinds! Tahoka is also housetrained, and knows "sit" and "come" (at least sometimes). He seems to be good with other dogs. While he is a calm and gentle soul, his playful side shines through when his favorite toys come out, and watching this big fellow engage in a game is a joy to behold. We haven't had much luck catching that on camera, but it DOES HAPPEN sometimes! Because of his breed's heritage as livestock guardians, Tahoka’s devotion is deeply ingrained; he doesn't just want a home, he wants a person to watch over and love with all 100-plus pounds of his fluffy self. He is looking for a family that appreciates the majestic presence of a Great Pyrenees and has plenty of room in both their home and their hearts for a gentle giant who will never leave their side. All pets arrive spayed/neutered, dewormed, microchipped and vaccinated. Adoption fee for Tahoka is a suggested minimum of $150 (more gratefully accepted). All pets are placed with a 30-day money-back trial period, to give pet and family enough time to discover any unknown allergies or other conflicts. Can't come to Republic? Don't let that stop you! We have monthly transports to the Seattle area, delivering adopted pets to their new owners. If you can add a little to your donation to help us cover our volunteer driver's expenses, that would be great!
