Story
All of our dogs are spayed/neutered, shots current (DHPP, Bordetella and Rabies where applicable), dewormed, flea and tick treated, and microchipped.  * If you are interested in a dog, please first read the biography on the dog (keep scrolling down for the bio!) and then go to our website, www.dpsrescue.com for an application. Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $700 Meet Indigo   Indigo is a 2 year old, 14 lb Papillon mix who came to the rescue from the shelter and has been busy discovering what it means to be safe, loved, and part of a family. He is a bright, energetic little dog with a huge heart and a zest for life that becomes more obvious every day.   Daily Routine Indigo is an early riser and starts his day with a quick 10-minute walk around the park near his foster home. Afterward, he enjoys breakfast— a mix of kibble and wet food— before settling into his pen. Around 8:00 a.m., he heads out for a longer walk, usually 40–50 minutes, where he can burn off his abundant energy. After that, he relaxes in his pen until his foster family returns home in the afternoon.   When his people get home around 3:00–4:00 p.m., Indigo is thrilled to see them and goes out for another short walk. Dinner is around 5:00 p.m., followed by playtime in the living room. Before bedtime, he enjoys one last 10-minute walk around 8:00 p.m. He sleeps in his pen overnight without issue— he may whine briefly, then settles himself and sleeps through until morning.   Personality & Growth When Indigo first arrived, he was very shy and anxious, reluctant to leave his crate and unsure of his new surroundings. He was underweight and dealing with skin issues, and it was clear he needed time to decompress. In just a short period, he has made an impressive transformation. Indigo is now affectionate and cuddly, loves to wag his tail, and eagerly engages in play with toys and his people.   He has a playful, puppy-like spirit and is still learning good manners. Indigo can get mouthy during play and may grab at things when excited, but his foster family is actively working on redirecting this behavior and teaching him appropriate outlets. He is curious, smart, and clearly eager to learn.   One of the sweetest things about Indigo is how he greets his foster family when they come home. As soon as he’s let out of his pen, he walks right up and gently presses his forehead against them— a quiet, heartfelt way of saying he’s happy and feels safe.   Energy Level & Activity Indigo is energetic and always on the move when he’s out of his pen. He loves running and exploring and seems like he could go forever. He is not a couch potato— this is a dog who will thrive with daily walks, enrichment, and an active lifestyle.   Leash Skills & Outside World Indigo has been on many walks and is enthusiastic on leash. He does pull a bit but frequently checks back in with his person. He is very alert and vocal when he sees dogs, people, strollers, cats, or other activity, using his voice to let everyone know he’s there. With continued training, structure, and confidence-building, he should continue to improve in busy environments.   Training & Manners Indigo is crate-trained and comfortable resting in his pen. Potty training is still a work in progress, and he will need a home committed to consistency and positive reinforcement as he continues learning where to go.   Social Life Indigo is currently the only dog in his foster home and has not yet lived with other pets or children. He previously lived with several other dogs while at the shelter.   Why Indigo Indigo is smart, kind, affectionate, and full of personality. In just 10 days, he has already bonded deeply with his foster family and clearly wants to be part of a pack. He is strong, healthy, and endlessly fun, with a playful spirit and a loving heart. For the right home— one that embraces his energy and commits to guiding him as he grows— Indigo will be a devoted, joyful companion who brings laughter and adventure into everyday life.December 16, 2025, 6:23 pm

From the moment she landed in foster care, Rogue made it clear she was ready for her next chapter—full of enthusiasm, curiosity, and a genuine love of life. She’s the kind of pup who makes friends fast, with people and dogs alike… and yes, she even tolerated wearing a cowboy hat without immediately trying to remove it, which says a lot about her easygoing spirit.   Rogue starts her day around 6 a.m., bright-eyed and ready for whatever comes next. After a quick backyard potty break and breakfast, she’s excited for the day to unfold—but she’s also perfectly happy to loaf on the couch or curl up on her foster sister’s heated blanket while the house slowly wakes up. She loves being in the center of morning activity and happily supervises everyone getting ready for school. She takes a short kennel break during school drop-off and then settles into her work-from-home routine like a pro.   Throughout the day, Rogue rotates between squeaky toy sessions, chewing on bully sticks, and hopping into her foster’s lap to serve as a very dedicated “keyboard warrior.” She enjoys a midday walk and is still polishing her leash manners—she prefers a brisk pace and is confident outdoors, without being skittish or reactive. She has free roam of the house and backyard during the day and has shown she can respect boundaries once they’re clearly established.   Her absolute favorite time of day is when the kids come home from school. The joy is immediate and unmistakable, radiating from her nose all the way to her constantly wiggling tail. Dinner happens around 5 p.m., and by about 8:30 she’s ready to settle in for the night. Rogue would happily sleep next to her people, but since she’s still learning what is and isn’t appropriate to chew, she sleeps in her kennel most nights. She may occasionally protest eating her kibble, holding out hope that some leftover “kid food” might magically appear.   Personality-wise, Rogue is an outgoing, playful, and adventurous puppy who has been consistent in her love of toys and attention since day one. What’s become more apparent over time is her ability to settle and cuddle—she’s more than capable of chilling out and enjoying quiet companionship during the workday. She’s affectionate without being overwhelming and loves being included in whatever her people are doing.   Rogue has done well with other dogs, including her fellow foster pup Shasta (now adopted) and during a playdate with Platinum (up for adoption!). She still has typical puppy manners and occasionally needs reminders not to use her mouth during play, but everything about it is age-appropriate. She’s very curious about the household cats and would love to play with them, though the feeling is not mutual. She may try a brief chase now and then, but quickly backs off when reminded by a hiss. Rogue absolutely loves kids and thrives in a busy, active home environment.   She is primarily housetrained and does best with a consistent schedule to avoid puppy accidents. She’s familiar with potty pads, though her foster is focusing on reinforcing outdoor potty habits. Rogue is a definite chewer, especially when bored, and needs access to appropriate chew items. On her very first day, she impressively surveyed the backyard for possible escape routes, but once tiny gaps were secured, she fully respected the boundaries and hasn’t tried digging since. She will bark briefly when someone arrives, but it’s purposeful and short-lived.   Rogue would thrive in a home that embraces her curious, adventurous nature and enjoys including their dog in daily life and family activities. Despite her petite size, she has a big personality and a zest for engagement. She’s incredibly cute, highly trainable, and very responsive to treats and hand-luring. She genuinely wants to please and would shine with continued training and consistency. Her favorite place in the house is the living room, where the sun pours in—this is also where she proudly gathers her collection of toys and chewies.   Rogue is one of those dogs who brings brightness wherever she goes. Whether she’s trotting along on a walk, supervising from your lap, or basking in a sunbeam surrounded by her treasures, she’s a joyful little companion ready to be someone’s constant sidekick.January 14, 2026, 11:15 am

Our adoption fees vary. Each biography will specifically list the adoption fee.Adoption fee: $750 Meet Cascade!   Cascade is a 10–12 month old Papillon mix who was rescued from a local shelter after coming in as a stray. While we don’t know what her life looked like before rescue, it’s clear that Cascade is a gentle, devoted little dog whose greatest joy is simply being close to her person.   Cascade has a calm, predictable daily routine and thrives on companionship. Her day usually starts with a morning potty break and short walk around the block. If she’s feeling ambitious, she’ll head out early around 6:30 a.m. with one foster parent; otherwise, she’s perfectly content waiting until about 8:30–9:00 a.m. After her walk, she comes inside for breakfast (about ¼ cup of kibble). During the day, Cascade has free roam of the house but chooses to stay close to her foster, usually settling in the office while work gets done. She has a crate set up with a cozy bed and blanket and will nap there willingly, or stretch out in a sunny patch on the carpet.   Cascade is the definition of a shadow dog. If her person gets up to grab water or use the bathroom, she quietly follows along and waits patiently outside the door, resuming her “assigned position” the moment they return. She enjoys another walk around noon, followed by treat-based play sessions during the day instead of a midday meal. In the early evening, she goes out for a longer walk around 5–6 p.m., then comes home for dinner. Evenings are spent lounging on the couch, playing gently with toys, and relaxing until her final potty break around 10:00 p.m. At bedtime, Cascade would love nothing more than to snuggle in bed with her people, but she politely settles into her own dog bed next to the bed, sometimes peeking up with hopeful eyes before drifting off. She sleeps through the night without issue.   Personality-wise, Cascade is a total velcro dog. She bonds deeply and quickly to one primary person and prefers to be near them at all times. She currently struggles when her person leaves and will need a home that can work with her on alone-time training. When left in a calm, enclosed space with soothing music, she does much better. When Cascade first arrived, she showed clear attachment behaviors to her previous foster, and that same deep loyalty has carried over— once she chooses you as her person, you are truly her whole world.   Cascade is incredibly sweet, gentle, and calm. She adores belly rubs and will dramatically flop over and curl herself into a little donut of happiness when you find the right spot. She isn’t a lap dog, but she loves to snuggle right next to you on the couch, always making sure she’s touching you in some way. She’s docile, easygoing, and tolerant of handling, including having her paws and face wiped.   Cascade isn’t high-energy; she’s more of a relaxed lounger who loves naps, food, and leisurely walks. She has a bit of a “huntress” streak and keeps an eye out for birds, squirrels, and even bumblebees, and she enjoys sniffing gopher holes on walks. She’s still learning how to play with toys and didn’t seem to know what to do with them at first, but she’s warming up to plush toys and enjoys when her person plays with her. With some practice, she may even become a little fetch enthusiast.   She is currently the only pet in the home. On walks, she notices other dogs from a distance and may bark or growl if they get too close, especially if she feels unsure. With calm reassurance and being picked up briefly, she settles quickly and can greet politely once she feels safe. She walks very nicely on leash, rarely pulls, and follows her handler’s lead without stubbornness. Prior to her arrival, she lived with other dogs at the shelter without issue, so she would be fine joining another dog in the home.   Cascade is fully house trained and has had no accidents. She is comfortable using a crate for naps and goes in voluntarily, though she has not been left crated with the door closed for extended periods. She does not chew when bored, does not dig, and is generally very quiet in the home. She will bark if she hears someone approaching the front door or passing by the office, but settles once she understands there’s no threat.   Cascade’s ideal home would be one where she is not left alone for long stretches of time. She would do best with someone who works from home or otherwise has a lifestyle that allows for lots of companionship. She appears to feel most comfortable with a female owner and is somewhat apprehensive around men, though not aggressive. With patience and consistency, she is likely capable of building trust with the right male co-owner over time.   What truly sets Cascade apart is her gentleness and devotion. She doesn’t ask for much— just closeness, reassurance, and love. Her foster’s favorite thing about her is the way she instantly flips onto her back for belly rubs, stretching her legs out in bliss and watching your hand closely to make sure you don’t stop. In those moments, it’s clear: to Cascade, you are her favorite person in the world.   Cascade is a soft, soulful little dog who will thrive in a calm, loving home where she can feel safe, connected, and cherished.January 12, 2026, 3:09 pm

If we need to look something up later and you used a different email we are often not able to find it. 2. Adopt a Pet and Petfinders ask you to send us an enquiry. This always delays our response. Story
Cricket was my mother's dog. We believe Cricket is about 14 years old. She was adopted about 12 years ago by my mother, Betty, and they immediately became best friends. While Cricket is much less active now, she still loves to do short walks and run and play around the house or yard. She really enjoys hanging outside or finding a cozy spot in the house to nap. Cricket loves people and is friends with all of Betty's neighbors.
