I ended up at a shelter on the euthanasia list before getting my second chance, and I’m so thankful to be safe now. I’ve been here at the rescue facility since July 2024, and while everyone has been kind to me, my biggest wish is to finally find my forever home. I’m a gentle, happy boy who gets along with everyone I meet—people and other dogs alike, especially other small dogs. I’m friendly, affectionate, and I’ve got a lot of personality packed into my little self. I’ve got a fun, spunky side too! I love to explore, go on adventures, and sniff out anything interesting. I’d be a great match for an active home or someone who loves the outdoors. And when the day is done, I’m more than happy to relax right by your side. I’m fully vetted and ready to roll—literally! I love car rides and would be happy to tag along wherever life takes us. I may not be a big dog, but I’ve got a big heart, and I’m ready to share it with someone special. I’m fully vetted, protected with ProHeart 12, and ready to go home. My adoption fee is $300 (transport available if needed). I’m currently in Texas, but I can travel to Washington, Portland (OR), Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Cincinnati, Lexington, KY, and along the East Coast (except RI and MA). Animal Profile: Hugo is a 2-year-old, 13-pound Rat Terrier mix with a big personality packed into a small frame! This cheerful little guy is full of spunk and loves to play, whether it’s with big dogs, small dogs, or anyone ready for some fun. Sadly, Hugo found himself at risk in an overcrowded shelter simply because there wasn’t enough space. But despite it all, he never lost his happy spirit or wagging tail. His playful energy and friendly nature shine through in every interaction. Foster Update:  This spirited 2-year-old Rat Terrier mix joined our rescue last November and has been making impressive progress ever since. Early on, Hugo showed some bitey behaviors around handling and resources he wasn’t ready to share, but with the help of a dedicated foster team and professional training, he’s come a long way. Hugo has spent several months working with a balanced trainer and has really thrived. He loves learning, enjoys training sessions, and is always up for playtime. He’s an active, outgoing little guy who would do best with someone who can continue to engage both his body and mind. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and rides well in the car. Hugo can be a bit vocal when he gets excited and definitely has a touch of FOMO, he likes to be part of the action! He warms up quickly to new people and enjoys making new friends. Hugo is looking for an adult-only home with experienced dog owners who understand how to provide structure and consistency. To set everyone up for success, his trainer will offer a go-home lesson and follow-up support to help ease the transition. Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $575 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, recent exam with a veterinarian, and microchip with lifetime registration.
