I ended up at a shelter on the euthanasia list before getting my second chance, and I’m so thankful to be safe now. I’ve been here at the rescue facility since July 2024, and while everyone has been kind to me, my biggest wish is to finally find my forever home. I’m a gentle, happy boy who gets along with everyone I meet—people and other dogs alike, especially other small dogs. I’m friendly, affectionate, and I’ve got a lot of personality packed into my little self. I’ve got a fun, spunky side too! I love to explore, go on adventures, and sniff out anything interesting. I’d be a great match for an active home or someone who loves the outdoors. And when the day is done, I’m more than happy to relax right by your side. I’m fully vetted and ready to roll—literally! I love car rides and would be happy to tag along wherever life takes us. I may not be a big dog, but I’ve got a big heart, and I’m ready to share it with someone special. I’m fully vetted, protected with ProHeart 12, and ready to go home. My adoption fee is $300 (transport available if needed). I’m currently in Texas, but I can travel to Washington, Portland (OR), Minneapolis, Milwaukee, Chicago, Des Moines, Omaha, Cincinnati, Lexington, KY, and along the East Coast (except RI and MA). Animal Profile: Hugo is a 2-year-old, 13-pound Rat Terrier mix with a big personality packed into a small frame! This cheerful little guy is full of spunk and loves to play. Sadly, Hugo found himself at risk in an overcrowded shelter simply because there wasn’t enough space. But despite it all, he never lost his happy spirit or wagging tail. His playful energy and friendly nature shine through in every interaction. Foster Update:  This spirited 2-year-old Rat Terrier mix joined our rescue last November and has been making impressive progress ever since. Early on, Hugo showed some bitey behaviors around handling and resources he wasn’t ready to share, but with the help of a dedicated foster team and professional training, he’s come a long way. Hugo has spent months working with a balanced trainer and has really thrived. He loves learning, enjoys training sessions, and is always up for playtime. He’s an active, outgoing little guy who would do best with someone who can continue to engage both his body and mind. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and rides well in the car. Hugo can be a bit vocal when he gets excited and definitely has a touch of FOMO, he likes to be part of the action! He warms up quickly to new people and enjoys making new friends. Hugo is looking for an adult-only home with experienced dog owners who understand how to provide structure and consistency. E collar experience is a bonus, but being willing to learn is a necessity. To set everyone up for success, his trainer will offer a go-home lesson and follow-up support to help ease the transition. Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $575 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, recent exam with a veterinarian, and microchip with lifetime registration. Hay Dude Equine Rescue is a foster-based rescue in Texas. All of our dogs live in foster homes in TX and are transported to their new states once adopted. All adopters must be 21+. Applications can be found at haydudeequine.org. Meet Darla! 🩷 Hi, I’m Darla, a 3-year-old, 13-pound little sweetheart who is looking for someone to love me forever! I was found as a stray in New Mexico, and while I’m not sure how I ended up on my own, I’m pretty sure I was meant to end up in someone’s lap. ❤️ We think I’m a Cairn Terrier/Parson’s Terrier mix, and I’m basically the perfect combination of cute, cuddly, and just a little bit scruffy! My head is wonderfully soft and non-shedding, while my back has that adorable wiry terrier coat that sheds a little—so apparently I couldn’t decide which hairstyle I wanted and went with both. 😂 I’m very sweet and loving, and one of my favorite things in the whole world is snuggling with my people. I can be a little nervous when I first meet someone new, but give me just a little time and I’ll warm up quickly. Once I know you’re a friend, I’m all about the love! I’m also very good with other dogs. I have a submissive, easygoing personality and would happily share my space with canine friends. If you’re looking for a small companion with a big heart, a love for snuggles, and an adorable little terrier face, Darla might just be your girl. 🥰
