Story
Under AKR Custody Review (Adoption temporarily on hold pending resolution of foster situation) Currently in Vancouver!!! Name: Mongmong Age: 4 years old Sex: Neutered Male Breed: JRT (Jack Russell Terrier) Mix Color: Black, tan, and white Weight: 9.5 kg (20.9 lbs) Height (at shoulder): 32 cm (12.6 inches)   Mongmong is a sweet and affectionate pup who loves people — whether you’re a familiar friend or someone he’s just met, he’ll happily come over for pets and attention. He’s especially gentle with young children and is comfortable being picked up with arms under his belly. Once he warms up, he’ll even show you his belly! He’s curious about other dogs and will approach them to say hello, though he doesn’t typically engage in play. Gentle with cats, not much interest in them. Mongmong has a moderate energy level and enjoys outdoor activities like walks, but settles down calmly afterward. He’s well-behaved on leash, doesn’t pull, and follows his human companion nicely. He is not food aggressive and remains calm in a kennel or during car rides. Mongmong was found injured, likely from a car accident, and was at risk of euthanasia at a municipal shelter. After being rescued, Mongmong had one eye removed due to phthisis bulbi, a condition that caused his eye to shrink and lose function and had hernia surgery on 25.05.01-but he’s recovered beautifully and is now ready for a fresh start Mongmong is a brave little survivor with a heart full of love. He’s looking for a forever home where he can feel safe, cherished, and loved — could that be with you? Story
Meet Charlotte   • Name: Charlotte • Age: 7–8 years • Sex: Spayed Female • Breed: Terrier Mix • Color: Brown • Weight: 9.5 kg • Height (shoulder): 37 cm   Rescue Story Charlotte was rescued from a municipal shelter in January 2021. After her rescue, she spent about four years in a private shelter. During her time at the shelter, Charlotte was bitten by another dog. Following that experience, she became very sensitive to handling and touch, which made finding an adoptive home more challenging.   In November, Charlotte joined the AKR center, where she began desensitization and touch training. At first, even putting on a collar or harness caused her to scream, but with consistent training and patience, she has made meaningful progress. Now, she may occasionally whine slightly, but her reaction has improved significantly.   She is sensitive to her fur being pulled, so she is currently kept with a short coat for her comfort.   ‍‍‍ Socialization with People Charlotte can be a little shy at first, but she is very food-motivated. With treats and gentle, positive reinforcement, she warms up quickly and becomes comfortable with touch.   She has not been tested with children under 13. While she can be picked up once she trusts you, this may be difficult for strangers at first. As she bonds, she becomes affectionate—even offering her belly for rubs.   Socialization with Dogs Charlotte is friendly and social with other dogs. She approaches both familiar and unfamiliar dogs to greet and invite play.   She can be a bit vocal when playing, which may overwhelm more timid dogs. However, she does very well with dogs that match her energy level, regardless of size.   She would thrive either with a compatible canine companion or as the only dog in the home.   Cats Not yet tested, but can be assessed upon request.   Energy Level Moderate energy. She enjoys outdoor activities but settles down calmly afterward.   Walks Charlotte may look around curiously during walks, but she follows her handler well and does not pull on the leash.   Other Notes • No resource guarding toward people or dogs • No separation anxiety—she stays home alone well • May bark at other dogs, but does not bark excessively at people • Calm and quiet in a kennel • Nervous about getting into the car—may need to be gently carried in (a crate is recommended initially) • Currently uses outdoor potty   Ideal Home Charlotte is looking for a patient and understanding home that will continue her positive reinforcement training and respect her sensitivity to touch. With time, consistency, and kindness, she truly blossoms into a loving and affectionate companion.   If you’re looking for a sweet, resilient dog and are willing to give her the time she needs to fully trust, Charlotte could be your perfect match. Meet Poppy! Poppy came to us from a high kill shelter and had some lacerations that have now healed beautifully.  She’s still doing a wonderful job in her foster home, and is a wonderful dog! She's perfectly potty trained and a joy to have around. She is great being home by herself too. Her spirits are high. She's playful and fun. She likes other dogs but is not super playful with them.  Poppy walks perfectly on walks. She can alert bark at times but is not a nuisance barker.  She doesn’t seem to have any signs of anxiety when we leave her at home. (Kenneled or not) and has not destroyed anything in the home. She eats two full meals a day and shows no signs of food guarding.  She’s a 10/10!  Poppy is vaccinated, spayed and chipped. Her adoption fee is $450 We cover the medical to prepare the pet for adoption and the adopt donations go directly to cover those costs and range from $295-$495.  Thank you for stepping up to save a life! To expedite to meet with this dog, please go to our site at www.savinggreatanimals.org and fill out an application. We look at the first applications to arrive, so we hope to hear from you soon! Story
Meet Annie! Don't tell Annie she's blind—she hasn't let it slow her down for a second. This sweet 10-year-old Jack Russell mix is proof that joy has nothing to do with eyesight. Annie approaches life with confidence, curiosity, and a tail that never seems to stop wagging. She loves meeting new people, enjoys leisurely walks, chases after tennis balls, soaks up the sunshine, and is happiest when she's curled up beside the people she loves. Annie adores everyone she meets and would make a wonderful companion for a family looking for an affectionate, easygoing dog. She would likely do well with respectful children and may also be happy living with other dogs after proper introductions. Cats are unknown, but based on her gentle nature, we think she may do well with them too. While Annie is blind, she navigates her world remarkably well. She's confident in familiar environments and relies on her other senses—and her trusting spirit—to guide her. Because of her vision loss, she'll need a family committed to keeping her safe with a secure routine and regular veterinary care, including ongoing monitoring of her eyes. Annie has a low-to-medium energy level that's the perfect balance of adventure and relaxation. She enjoys exploring on walks, playing when the mood strikes, and then stretching out for a sunny afternoon nap. A fenced yard would be a wonderful bonus so she can safely enjoy one of her favorite pastimes: basking in the sunshine. Like many senior dogs, Annie does have a few medical considerations, including a heart condition that is currently being managed, the need for a dental cleaning, and a daily joint supplement to help keep her comfortable. She also eats a prescription hypoallergenic diet due to a chicken allergy. What Annie is really looking for is simple: a family who will love her for exactly who she is. She doesn't need perfect eyesight to live a full, happy life—she just needs someone willing to see how truly special she is. Annie is spayed, up to date on vaccines, and microchipped.

**Nyssa, A gorgeous Whippet- Jack Russell Mix**   Introducing Nyssa, a truly exceptional one-year-old Jack Russell Terrier-Whippet mix with a short coat. This delightful pup perfectly blends gentleness and strength, feistiness and confidence—wrapped in a personality that is simply irresistible. At this pivotal stage in her life, Nyssa is ready to flourish and thrive with the loving family she deserves. This is your chance to make a lasting difference in her world!   While Nyssa may be a bit shy at first, she quickly opens up and builds trust with kind encouragement. An active family would be her perfect match, providing the companionship she needs to channel her boundless energy into thrilling adventures and meaningful training. Intelligent and eager to learn, Jack Russells excel with proper guidance, and with the Whippet’s calm and gentle nature, Nyssa is the ideal partner for anyone excited about training and outdoor fun. Just imagine the incredible bond you could create together!   It’s important to note that this unique breed has a strong prey drive, so its future home should be free of small animals and cats. To ensure a harmonious environment, we are particularly looking for families with children over 10 years old who have experience with dogs.   Nyssa's stunning short coat boasts beautiful brown spots against a pristine white background, complemented by her long back and medium-short legs, which create an adorable silhouette. Her robust, muscular build not only hints at her potential as a fantastic hiking or agility partner but also promises a life overflowing with joy and excitement. Picture all the adventures waiting for you with Nyssa by your side!     **Adopting Nyssa** To adopt Nyssa, please use the link below. One of our volunteers will review your application and follow up with you to ask questions, address any concerns you may have, and determine if you are a good match for this pup. If a match is made, the next step will be a meet-and-greet. Please use a computer to complete the application, as tablets and cell phones may disrupt the process. Nyssa has transitioned to a human-grade diet that avoids kibble, focusing instead on a healthy canine-specific feeding regimen. We will educate her adopters on proper diet and nutrition.   The adoption fee for Nyssa is $350   All funds will be utilized to cover her medical care and to rescue more dogs in need. www.smallpupsrescue.org Nyssa has a bonded dog adoption fee of $595.00 if adopted as a bonded pair with her best buddy, Luna.      July 24, 2026, 8:30 pm

Story
Animal Profile: Hugo is a 2-year-old, 13-pound Rat Terrier mix with a big personality packed into a small frame! This cheerful little guy is full of spunk and loves to play. Sadly, Hugo found himself at risk in an overcrowded shelter simply because there wasn’t enough space. But despite it all, he never lost his happy spirit or wagging tail. His playful energy and friendly nature shine through in every interaction. Foster Update:  This spirited 2-year-old Rat Terrier mix joined our rescue last November and has been making impressive progress ever since. Early on, Hugo showed some bitey behaviors around handling and resources he wasn’t ready to share, but with the help of a dedicated foster team and professional training, he’s come a long way. Hugo has spent months working with a balanced trainer and has really thrived. He loves learning, enjoys training sessions, and is always up for playtime. He’s an active, outgoing little guy who would do best with someone who can continue to engage both his body and mind. He’s house-trained, crate-trained, and rides well in the car. Hugo can be a bit vocal when he gets excited and definitely has a touch of FOMO, he likes to be part of the action! He warms up quickly to new people and enjoys making new friends. Hugo is looking for an adult-only home with experienced dog owners who understand how to provide structure and consistency. E collar experience is a bonus, but being willing to learn is a necessity. To set everyone up for success, his trainer will offer a go-home lesson and follow-up support to help ease the transition. Adoption Info: Adoption fee is $575 which includes spay/neuter, core vaccinations per AVMA standards, heartworm test if applicable, recent exam with a veterinarian, and microchip with lifetime registration. Your adoption fee may be tax deductible as DGS is a 501c3 organization. All adoption fees go toward the care of all dogs in our rescue.  Apply Online: www.DogGoneSeattle.org/adoption-application Animal History: This dog was rescued from Stanislaus shelter in California, arriving to foster care in Seattle on 11/13 via START. This dog will be available for adoption in the greater Seattle area once evaluated in foster care.August 8, 2026, 2:25 pm
