Story
Meet Fred 🐾 — Your Easygoing, Loyal CompanionFred is a 12-year-old, 50 lb mixed breed (likely Lab/Boxer mix with a beautiful brindle coat) who is looking for a soft landing and a loving home to call his own.Fred’s story hasn’t been the easiest. Born in 2014, he was surrendered in South Carolina in 2020 and made his way to Massachusetts, where he was adopted. Unfortunately, due to life circumstances, he was recently left behind and has been passed from one temporary situation to another before landing with a kind Good Samaritan who is now helping him find the stable, loving home he truly deserves.Despite his past uncertainty, Fred has remained an exceptionally gentle, loving, and well-mannered dog.Fred’s personality in a nutshell:Calm and easygoing — a true “old soul.”Loves everyone he meetsGreat on leash and enjoys his walksWell-behaved in the home and knows basic commandsNot food aggressive at allFriendly with other animals (even tries to make friends with cats!)Fred would thrive in a home looking for a loyal, low-key companion — someone who enjoys daily walks but also appreciates a relaxed, steady presence by their side.At his age, Fred is starting to show a little stiffness consistent with mild arthritis, but he’s still happy to get out and enjoy life. He is neutered and was previously up to date on vaccines (though he will likely need routine vetting to bring him current). He's been to the vet again and had a senior panel bloodwork, exam for his joints and given some meds to help. Overall, in good shape for an old boy - he does need a dental, which we will get done at our expense after adoption.Ideal home:Fred would be a wonderful match for an older or more laid-back household looking for a devoted companion. He’s the kind of dog who will quietly become your shadow and your best friend.Fred has so much love left to give — he just needs someone willing to give him the second chance he’s been waiting for. 💛Name: Fred - Pembroke, MABreed: Plott Hound/Crossbreed   (Breed mx is not guaranteed-no DNA testing done).Sex: MaleAge: 11 years  (estimated)Weight: 62.0Spayed/Neutered: YesVaccinations: Up to dateHeartworm: Negative on recent testingMicrochipped: YesBASED ON OUR OBSERVATIONS:Good with Children: Over 5 (has lived with)Good with Dogs: YesGood with Cats: YesAdoption Fee: $550.00  (includes transport fee when applicable)                       $100-150 additional mandatory quarantine fee for Massachusetts residents.Location of dog currently:    Pembroke, MAIMPORTANT INFORMATION - Paws New England is a foster-based rescue; our dogs reside in various locations throughout the south & New England.  Adoption donations cover pre-adoption veterinary costs (including vaccinations, spay/neuter when age-appropriate, and heartworm testing/treatment when necessary), a microchip, and transportation to New England, if necessary.Donations for our young, healthy puppies and dogs support their fellow canines of advanced age or suffering from injuries and abuse, whose donations are reduced but whose veterinary costs are typically much higher. Story
Meet Our Birmingham 6 🐾💛Arty is an interesting brindle. He likes to explore. He is very confident and strong-willed. He is also a loving boy. All the other pups tend to follow him around to see what he might get into next. He was the first to learn to sit and wait; this helped the others catch on quickly. These six sweet puppies didn’t exactly get the easy start every dog deserves—but thanks to some kind humans, their story is already turning around.Their mama was found in Birmingham, Alabama, doing her best to survive while pregnant. Life hadn’t been kind to her, but she stayed gentle and trusting. She was taken in just in time, where she safely gave birth to her six babies in a warm, caring environment—no more worrying about where her next meal would come from or how she’d protect her pups. From day one, these puppies have been safe, handled, and loved—and it shows. Now they’re ready to leave their southern beginnings behind and head to New England to find families of their own 💛The Basics:🐶 6 mixed-breed puppies (no DNA testing on breed mix)🎂 Young puppies (age-appropriate for adoption)⚖️ Expected to be large-sized puppies based on weight 28 lbs at 13 weeks of age; (Puppies could end up going up to 100 lbs at adulthood)📍 Born in Birmingham, AL → coming to New EnglandAbout Mom (because it matters!) - we have a photo - daddy is unknown:💛 Extremely sweet and gentle despite her past🐕 Friendly and tolerant🧬 Puppies are expected to have similar loving temperamentsPuppy Personalities (so far):🐾 Happy, playful, and curious💛 Social and people-oriented🐕 Doing well with other dogs🧠 At the perfect age to learn and bond with their familiesWhat They’ll Need:🏡 Committed homes ready for all things puppy (training, structure, patience!)⏳ Time and consistency for housebreaking and basic manners🐶 Another dog is a bonus, but not requiredMedical:✔️ Age-appropriate vaccinations✔️ Microchipped✔️ Health certificate prior to transport✔️ Spay/neuter required per adoption contract when age-appropriateThese puppies have only ever known kindness—and we intend to keep it that way. They’re starting fresh, with full hearts and wagging tails, ready to grow up in homes where they’ll be loved for a lifetime. If you’re ready for puppy chaos, cuddles, and unconditional love… one of these six is waiting for you 💛🐾Breed: Pit Bull Terrier/Labrador Retriever   (Breed Mix is not guaranteed - no DNA testing has been done)Age: 14 weeks as of 3/30Weight: 30.0 as of 3/30- expected to be LARGE ADULT DOGSSpayed/Neutered: Too young - Spay/Neuter Contract will be required and strictly enforced.Vaccinations: Puppy vaccines will be up to date. All vaccinations required after adoption are the adopter's responsibility.Heartworm: Too young (testing is done at 6 months of age)Housetrained:  Not usuallyMicrochipped: YesLocation of dog currently:    New England      Puppy Adoption Fee:  $600.00 (includes transport fee when applicable)                                    $100-150 additional mandatory quarantine fee applies to Massachusetts residents.Adoption Fee Includes spay /neuter surgery rebate to be paid to the adopter when proof of spay/neuter is provided to Paws New England. We can provide adopters with a list of low-cost SN clinics when requested. The adoption fee also includes the transport fee when applicableATTENTION PUPPY ADOPTERS:  You must attend training/behavior classes with your new dog unless you are an experienced dog owner and your adoption coordinator is comfortable with your experience.  This requirement is for your benefit and your puppy's, so if you experience behavioral issues, you have a point of contact.  PLEASE—Think long and hard before adopting a puppy. Consider the lifestyle change this puppy will come with. He cannot be crated for more than 3-4 hours until he's older. Puppy-proofing your home will be necessary. Puppies scratch and nip, so if you have small children, can they handle this? Training will be so crucial in this puppy's life. Just look at this smile! Sometimes we struggle to come up with words to describe how handsome Romero is. This active and happy guy is always ready for his next adventure. He loves to stay busy and would thrive in a home that enjoys walks, playtime, and getting out to explore the world together. Story
Brindles are the best! And Lady Bird is everything that's great about a brindle: she's sweet, gentle, low key, and super smart. Birdie is great in public and with kids. She was the chillest dog when she made her adoption event debut. She sat politely in front of anyone who walked up to pet her. Birdie loves car rides and hanging out on the couch. She's fully vetted including spay, adult shots, and is on heartworm preventative. She is very good on a leash. Lady Bird is ready for a family to love and that will love how amazing she is! If interested in adopting one of our available pets, please fill out an application at https://www.dixiegirldogrescue.org/forms PLEASE MAKE NOTE- OUR DOGS ARE FOSTERED IN ALABAMA (UNLESS OTHERWISE STATED), OUR DOGS TRANSPORT TO THEIR NEW FAMILIES IN RHODE ISLAND AFTER THEY HAVE BEEN ADOPTED. Our rescue pets are fostered in Southern foster homes (unless otherwise stated) and are posted for adoption once they are completely vetted and ready to travel. Our pets are adoptable in Alabama and New England States. Our adoption fee includes transport fee, spay/neuter, current vaccinations, deworming, heart worm test for animals over 7 months old, all necessary vetting and an interstate health certificate.
