DRACO - 8 years old, 50 pounds, house trained, good with kids, no other pets, very sweet and loving, nervous with new males. Losing your home is not only devastating to the humans but to the pets as well. This is how Draco ended up at VBACAC. He had been with his last family half his life and now lives behind bars through no fault of his own. He is a sweet, friendly boy. He's house trained and good with kids. He can get along with other dogs, well, let's say he can tolerate other dogs as long as they listen to him. We've had him in our shelter playgroup and he just doesn't seem to want to engage with the other dogs. If a dog gets near him or tries to engage with him, he barks and backs the dog up. So, an only dog home might be best but walking around your neighborhood or going on a hike should be pleasant without worrying about seeing other dogs. Field trip report! “ We enjoyed a beautiful trail run/walk and watch the human kiddos play at the park. He needs a little more leash training, but he is amazing! He’s so sweet, funny, and has a lot of fun personality. He has so much energy and LOVES being on the trails! He’s amazing with my kids and I could tell he was concerned about them from the short amount of time we had with him (loyalty). He could even do great with a runner/hiker. He likes to mark and does a funny kick back every time that had us all laughing every-time he did it. Ali might seem like a complicated guy, but we are confident once you take the time to meet and get to know him, you will see the sweet and goofy pup we have come to know. Ali was an owner surrender and after sometime working with our staff we finally have gotten him to come out of his shell. Ali will need a special home that will give him time and patience to settle into a new life. Ali will need to meet everyone that resides in his new home prior to adoption. He may require multiple visits to make sure he is comfortable with you and you are comfortable with him. Teenagers 16 and up in his home as he has never lived with young children or really interacted with them. We are recommending that Ali is not for a first time dog owner and we are asking that his future family be sure to do slow introductions with new people and animals. Ali has lived with another dog and has meet a few dogs while here at the VBSPCA and done well. We will require a meet and greet of any canine residents in the home. Thus far Ali really enjoys walks with our staff and some good treats to snack on (its how we won his heart). Our kennel team will go over in more detail about how to set up Ali for success in his future home when you visit. If you have any questions or just want more info about Ali or any of our available canines please speak with our kennel team and they will be happy to help.
