Story
DRACO - 8 years old, 50 pounds, house trained, good with kids, no other pets, very sweet and loving, nervous with new males. Losing your home is not only devastating to the humans but to the pets as well. This is how Draco ended up at VBACAC. He had been with his last family half his life and now lives behind bars through no fault of his own. He is a sweet, friendly boy. He's house trained and good with kids. He can get along with other dogs, well, let's say he can tolerate other dogs as long as they listen to him. We've had him in our shelter playgroup and he just doesn't seem to want to engage with the other dogs. If a dog gets near him or tries to engage with him, he barks and backs the dog up. So, an only dog home might be best but walking around your neighborhood or going on a hike should be pleasant without worrying about seeing other dogs. Field trip report! “ We enjoyed a beautiful trail run/walk and watch the human kiddos play at the park. He needs a little more leash training, but he is amazing! He’s so sweet, funny, and has a lot of fun personality. He has so much energy and LOVES being on the trails! He’s amazing with my kids and I could tell he was concerned about them from the short amount of time we had with him (loyalty). He could even do great with a runner/hiker. He likes to mark and does a funny kick back every time that had us all laughing every-time he did it. He’s amazing &#226&#157&#164&#239&#184&#143”    Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.May 14, 2025, 11:19 am

Story
Meet Rasha !! This beautiful girl is so much fun. The sweetest dog with a great mix of playful energy and cuddles. Rasha is a 2-year-old, female, mix breed. The vet put Plott hound on her paperwork but we suspect some type of bully breed mix is more accurate. She weighs 48 pounds and is full grown. She is already vaccinated, microchipped and spayed. She is thankfully Heartworm negative. This playful girl is so sweet and just wants all the love and attention from her people and doggy friends. She will greet you and just melt into you wanting your affection and hugs. She wholeheartedly believes she is a lap dog and will literally try to get on top of you and as close to you as possible on the couch. No one told her she’s a big dog lol. Rasha is doing really good with all of her training. She is crate training and will sleep in there overnight or during a full work day. She can be a little whiny if she knows your home and wants out. She rides great in the car although she makes you help her get in. She is good with leash walking and gentle about it for her size. She has been very good with her potty training overall. When she’s been crated awhile (like overnight or when you get home from work) she may have an accident in the crate if not let out right away. She has been fantastic with all other similar size dogs she’s met and not at all mean to little dogs. She can just be a lot for a smaller dog if they aren’t in to playing. She enjoys having another energetic dog to play with. She has not shown any aggression but with her size she can play a little rough. She has been good about taking cues from other dogs about backing off when it’s time to rest. We do not know how she would do with cats. Rasha has not been fostered with kids and wasn’t around them in her previous home. We can’t say for sure that she wouldn’t accidentally knock over small kids when excited. We do not think she would hurt kids or anyone else intentionally but she is a bigger girl and thinks she’s small. She loves toys, balls and anything to play with. She will carry a plushy around in her mouth and it’s really adorable. We have not seen any issues with her sharing toys, treats or food with humans or other animals. Rasha has a medium to high energy level. If she gets her outlet to run and play during the day she is very cuddly and relaxed inside. She definitely needs her playtime each and every day. She’s a fun dog that would be great for outings and adventures. She is a big hunk of love just waiting to be your best friend. If you’re looking for a playful sweetheart then she may be your girl!! Vet and home checks required. Located in Hampton VA. (She will need to be adopted within a 2 hour drive radius) ‼️Please message VillageDogResource@gmail.com ( for faster response and to see more pics visit our Facebook Page) directly with questions or to get an application.‼️

Story
Meet Twilight Sparkle! This beautiful girl and her sisters were brought to us quite some time ago from one of our shelter partners. Shortly after, they did need to undergo a lengthy and tough treatment in an isolated quarantine room for a fungal skin infection. They have since recovered and are much healthier than when they came in, but we always want to emphasize the importance of giving our animals proper medical care, a nutritious diet and an environment they can thrive in. Some facts about these girls are: they are definite foodies and will reluctantly share their food with each other, but if you have other animals at home already, we advise to feed separately just to be cautious. These kiddos will still need lots of socialization as they sadly had to miss out on a lot during their quarantine, but they have shown nothing but love and affection and are quite the sweet, loving pups. While affectionate and playful, we do still ask that adopters do slow introductions with these pups when meeting new people and animals since they have never directly met another animal while at our shelter. True to the Catahoula part of them, these pups do play rough at times and are a little nippy with each other, but tend to swap those for kisses when playing with people! These sweet pups will be sure to thrive in a home that will provide lots of love and care. If you are interested in adopting this sweet girl, please see a Kennel technician!***Please check with any leasing offices/landlords/HOAs as needed for both BREED AND WEIGHT restrictions. These girls are young and still have a lot of time to grow! While unsure just how big they will be once fully grown, we estimate them to be ~40+lbs.***
