Story
Layka is a delightful young female mixed breed  born August 27, 2021, weighing 50 pounds.  Layka a zest for life and an infectious enthusiasm that will brighten any home. Born with a naturally happy and outgoing personality, Layka thrives on adventure and loves the thrill of exploring new places. Her playful spirit and love for cuddles make her an ideal companion for families who enjoy an active lifestyle and plenty of affection. Layka is best suited for a household where she can be the only dog, allowing her to soak up all the love and attention she deserves. While she is naturally joyful and affectionate, Layka will benefit from socialization and training to help her adjust to her new environment and become the best version of herself. Our In-Home Experience with the Lovely Layka Layka is a delightful and silly girl who will undoubtedly capture your heart, one laugh at a time. From the moment she arrived at our home, her curiosity was evident—she sniffed every inch of the place and quickly decided that the couch was her favorite spot. A Day in the Life of Layka Layka's daily routine is a charming mix of relaxation and playful energy. About 75% of her day is spent as a content couch potato, while the remaining 25% is dedicated to her puppy zoomies, where she eagerly wants to play. Her play mode often involves heading to the backyard for a game of "fetch" with her Kong ball. Fetch deserves quotation marks because, more often than not, Layka ends up throwing the ball in the air herself and chasing it around like an exuberant baby kangaroo. She sprints full speed from one end of the yard to the other, taking frequent pit stops at the kitchen water dish for huge, refreshing slurps. It's essential to have a nice big bowl because Layka loves her water! After about 10-15 minutes of this energetic play, she sprints back inside, bringing her ball to the couch as a signal that she's all tuckered out. A Perfect Work-From-Home Companion I work from home, and Layka has proven to be a wonderful coworker. She spends her time in the living room, keeping an eye on passersby from the window. Every half hour or so, she trots into my office for a brief session of belly rubs and kisses before returning to her relaxing routine. Having Layka around has made my workdays much more enjoyable. Settling In and House Training Layka is house-trained, although she did have a couple of accidents during her first week with us, which we attributed to being in a new environment. She quickly learned to stand by the back door and gaze at us when she wanted to be let outside. Occasionally, she just wanted to enjoy the sunshine. When ready to come back in, she would sit politely at the door and give a short little bark to let us know. Overall, Layka has brought endless joy and laughter into our home. Her playful antics and loving demeanor have made her a beloved member of our household. By welcoming Layka into your home, you're inviting a happy and playful companion into your life. Her adventurous spirit and affectionate nature are sure to fill your days with joy and warmth. If you're ready for a lively and loving furry friend, Layka might just be the perfect match for your family! If interested please go to our website and fill out an application. Story
Meet Harley B Breed: English Pointer Mix Sex: Female DOB: 1/13/2021 Weight: 40 Pounds Health: Healthy and spayed Harley B is a beautiful medium-sized girl with a gentle soul, a playful spirit, and a heart ready to give her whole love to the right family. At five years old, she has the wonderful balance of maturity and energy — she’s past the puppy chaos but still full of life, curiosity, and enthusiasm for the world around her. Harley may be a little shy when meeting new people, but once she feels safe and comfortable, her affectionate and loyal personality shines through in the most wonderful way. Personality, Breed Info & Expectations As an English Pointer / Terrier Mix, Harley will be an intelligent, affectionate, and energetic companion with a wonderful balance of athleticism and loyalty. This breed mix often combines the English Pointer's friendly, eager-to-please nature with the Terrier's confidence, curiosity, and spirited personality. They are social dogs that enjoy being part of the family and thrive when included in everyday activities. These dogs are naturally active and benefit from regular exercise, outdoor adventures, and opportunities to explore. They are quick learners who respond well to positive reinforcement training and enjoy activities that challenge both their mind and body. Whether it's hiking, playing fetch, or simply spending time with their favorite people, they are happiest when they have a job to do and plenty of companionship. An English Pointer / Terrier Mix would thrive in a home prepared for: Daily exercise and outdoor adventures Continued positive reinforcement training Mental stimulation and enrichment Structure, consistency, and routine Plenty of companionship and family interaction A lifelong commitment to their emotional and physical well-being With patience, consistency, and plenty of love, an English Pointer / Terrier Mix grows into a loyal, well-mannered, and devoted companion who enjoys both active adventures and quiet time with the people they love. Breed & Lifestyle Traits Harley is an active, intelligent dog who thrives with regular exercise and mental stimulation. Dogs like Harley enjoy structure and routine, and they tend to form strong bonds with their humans. She does best when she has opportunities to move, explore, and interact with the world around her, making her a wonderful companion for someone who enjoys an active lifestyle. Training & Home Life Harley is already fully potty trained and crate trained, which makes her transition into a new home much smoother. She knows her basic commands and has a great foundation to continue building on with positive reinforcement training. She does well with other dogs and enjoys having canine companions around. However, Harley would do best in a home without cats or young children, as she thrives in a calmer, structured environment where she can feel relaxed and secure. ‍♀️ Activity Needs Harley loves movement and activity. Walks, outdoor time, and play sessions are some of her favorite things. A home with a yard would be ideal for her so she can stretch her legs and enjoy the outdoors. She would do wonderfully with an adopter who enjoys walks, light adventures, and spending quality time engaging with their dog. ⚠️ Things to Consider Before adopting Harley, it's important to consider your lifestyle and long-term stability. Are pets allowed where you live now and in the future? Do you have the time to provide daily exercise and companionship? Are you prepared for routine veterinary care and long-term financial responsibility? Are you ready for a commitment that lasts for the rest of Harley’s life? Adoption means providing a safe, loving home through every stage of life. Vet Care Although Harley is healthy and already spayed, it is important to establish care with your own veterinarian soon after adoption. This helps maintain her health through regular checkups and preventative care. Understanding the 3-3-3 Rule Like most rescue dogs, Harley will need time to adjust to a new home. The first 3 days she may feel unsure or overwhelmed while she decompresses. The first 3 weeks she will begin learning your routine and feeling more secure. By 3 months, her confidence will grow and her loving personality will truly shine. Patience and consistency during this transition will help Harley thrive. Why Harley B Is So Special Harley B is a wonderful dog who simply needs the right environment to shine. With patience, love, and an active lifestyle, she will become an incredibly loyal and devoted companion. She is ready to share adventures, daily walks, and quiet moments with someone who will appreciate her sweet nature and gentle heart. For the right person or couple looking for a loving, active companion, Harley B could be the perfect best friend. Story
Meet Jesse Freckles! Jesse is an approximately four-month-old Pointer/Pittie mix puppy with the sweetest little face and a personality that's just as irresistible. With his rich chocolate-colored patches, adorable speckled freckles, velvety floppy ears, and warm honey-golden eyes, he's the kind of puppy who melts hearts the second you meet him. If there's one thing Jesus loves most, it's toys! Stuffed toys, squeaky toys, crinkly toys—you name it, he wants to play with it. Sometimes he gets so excited that he can't even decide which toy to grab first! Watching him bounce from toy to toy with his wagging tail is guaranteed to make you smile. Jesse Freckles is an absolutely adorable puppy whose scattered spots make him completely irresistible! Confident and playfully medium-energy, he is deeply affectionate with people, playful with other dogs, and constantly showing off his favorite toys to anyone willing to join the fun. Jesse would thrive in a home with a friendly female dog who can show him the ropes and patiently keep teaching him his puppy manners as he grows. Watch Jesus in action in his video! https://youtu.be/tLzBa_aJXKA?si=Mis27-CyHtFtV2IZ This handsome boy is also incredibly smart. He's already learned how to sit and is extremely treat motivated, which makes training both fun and rewarding. Offer him a tasty snack, and he'll happily show off just how clever he is. He's eager to learn and loves having a job to do, making him a wonderful candidate for continued training. When playtime is over, Jesus transforms into the sweetest cuddle buddy. He loves snuggling up close, soaking up affection, and handing out the gentlest puppy kisses. He's the perfect mix of playful, affectionate, and intelligent. Jesus is growing up alongside his littermates and absolutely loves having other dogs around. Whether he's wrestling, chasing toys, or tumbling through the yard, he has the best time playing with his puppy friends. Because of this, he'd love a home with another playful dog to help show him the ropes and continue building his confidence. Like all young puppies, Jesus is still learning all the important life skills. He's working on potty training, crate training, leash walking, and learning good puppy manners. His future family should be ready to continue his training using lots of positive reinforcement, consistency, patience, and, of course, plenty of treats! The time you invest now will help him grow into an amazing lifelong companion. If you're looking for a puppy who's equal parts brains, cuddles, and endless fun, Jesus is ready to steal your heart. https://adopt.animalsfirst.com/animal/62cc8e128b02916730334440/6a0fc8a1d120c032230a9f06 Questions? Story
Stop scrolling… because Scarlet Mae is the kind of dog people don’t forget. From the moment you meet her, she has this way of making you feel like you’ve known her forever. Maybe it’s those adorable floppy doppie ears that bounce with every step, or the way she looks at you like you’re already her favorite person. Whatever it is, it works! Because Scarlet wins people over almost instantly. She’s affectionate, attentive, and completely people-oriented in the best way. The kind of dog who doesn’t just want to be near you, she wants to be with you. Whether she’s leaning in for hugs, soaking up pets, or gently asking for just a little more love, Scarlet has a way of turning even the simplest moments into something special. Watch her video and you'll fall in love with her: https://youtu.be/8oHuAjWX9_Q?si=tkwRq8s072a9_RWw Scarlet Mae is believed to be a Pointer/Lab mix approximately 4 years old and currently weighs 48 lbs. She is a rescue dog and with any rescue dog, it’s always a mystery and we cannot guarantee breed or age. Scarlet lives in a foster home with another dog sister. They get along great playing and taking rests. One thing we do know is that this girl is so people oriented and attentive to you when you're with her, it’s probably one of our favorite things about Scarlet. All she wants to do is make you happy and put a smile on your face. If you watched her video, then you know exactly what we are talking about. Now just imagine what that feeling is like when she is actually with you! She is even good with kids, hanging out with a 12-year-old here at the rescue. She snuggled up next to him on the couch, asking for affection without being too pushy and was so content sitting next to him getting all the love and affection. We believe she would make a great family dog. Another thing we love about Scarlet is the way she will sit in your lap letting you give her the biggest full body hugs and when you stop… she’ll lean even closer to you. Almost like she's saying, “hey friend, just 5 more minutes please.” It’s very sweet. Scarlet is dog friendly and has done great with all of the dogs we have introduced her to. She loves to romp around in the yard with the other dogs, playing chase and exploring with her doggy friends. For the most part, Scarlet is either enjoying the sunshine and fresh air while the other pups around her are playing, off exploring, or getting loved on by her people. When Scarlet first meets a new doggy friend, she prefers slower introductions to get to know her new pal and will also give a subtle correction to a dog if she’s not up for play in that moment or if things are getting a little too rough. Like how an older sister would do with her little brother, a teaching moment. In a home, she will do best with a medium energy male that enjoys those relaxing moments together, will be up for a game of chase every now and then, and will also be mindful of her boundaries when she’s ready to relax. If you don’t have other dogs, that’s fine too! She does not need the company of another dog to help her feel comfortable and open up nor does she need another dog to fulfill her energy needs. She is a confident love bug all on her own and will be just as happy being the center of your attention. She also met our house cat Biggie and met him appropriately and was very respectful around him. She did not chase Biggie, nor was she bothered by Biggie jumping or doing what cats do. Biggie also felt comfortable around her as well. We do not know if Scarlet has ever lived in a home before with a cat and this was our first time seeing her with a cat. If you have a cat in the home, we can arrange for her to have a sleepover with a cat upon request. Just let us know! Scarlet is also a smart girl and is a quick learner too. She already knows how to sit, is mastering her leash skills, and has shown us that she is crate trained and potty trained as well. She is very people oriented, eager to please, and loves a good tasty treat. All the fundamentals that make any additional training you want to do with her that much more enjoyable for you both. She really impressed us with how quickly she responded to every command we gave her. Scarlet has the type of energy that is perfectly in the middle. Not too high and not too low. She can match whatever energy you need her to. Want to snuggle all day? Sign Scarlet up. Want to take a walk around the neighborhood or go exploring the trails? Scarlet is already at the door with her leash on. She would also thrive in a home with a backyard where she can stretch her legs, soak in the sun, and porch sit with you during those nice summer evenings. We are willing to test Scarlet Mae with anything you need in order to ensure it's a perfect match. We can make anything happen! Just let us know. Ready to welcome a new furry friend into your life?
