Photo of Uusi

Female, Adult
Willamina, OR
(when grown) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg)
Not good with kids, Not good with dogs, Good with cats, Needs experienced adopter, House-trained,
Pro's: Uusi (said: Ooo-si) is a FABULOUS camping and trail dog. Once bonded to you, she will be your protector. Amazing dog for single women, non-binary folks, queer, trans, etc. who would feel safer with scary dog privilege! Uusi's shining quality is that she is an "old" dog (she's only 5!) who will absolutely learn new tricks. Uusi has an amazing desire to learn and please. Training her is a joy, just use treats and positive reinforcement and watch the magic happen. Her pointer quality comes out on hiking trails. Huge cuddle bug. Crate trained. Often hilarious! Cons: Iffy around new dogs, NOT A DOG PARK GIRL! Iffy around unknown children (pretty good if she gets to know them) Resource guards pretty intensely. Cannot feed with other dogs. Bones are only given in her kennel, she will bite if you try to take it (redirect her!) A butthead about new guests in the house :\ Warms up slowly to new people. Has car anxiety, but makes it! Highly sensitive! Be firm, but gentle with her.

Fitz is being fostered in Bend, Oregon through Street Savvy Dog Rescue ! πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ’œπŸ’œπŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ’œπŸ’œβœŒοΈβœŒοΈπŸ•πŸ•πŸ₯°πŸ₯°πŸ•πŸ₯°πŸ₯°β€οΈπŸ•πŸ•βœŒοΈβœŒοΈπŸ’œβœŒοΈβœŒοΈπŸŒˆπŸŒˆπŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸ˜„πŸŒˆπŸŒˆπŸŒˆπŸŒˆ Fitz is a 6 monthsl old Pointer mix, weighing about 35 pounds. He was originally found on Mt Fitz Roy in Patagonia, made his next journey to a foster in Mexico and then was flown to Portland where he went immediately into foster care. He takes some time to warm up to new people, but once he does he is such a lover. He feels more comfortable towards women but has never shown any sign of aggression towards men, kids, or any other animals (including cats), he is just timid and gets a little nervous sometimes. He has never once had an accident in the house. He is smart and intuitive and picks up on things fast. He is very well trained (knows sit, working on lay down, touch, etc) and he is a people pleaser. He is very observant and just enjoys being around people. He is great in the car, a little nervous getting in and out but making significant progress and is becoming more familiar. He has been camping and to the beach with his foster mama and while shy and a little unsure about the water/other dogs approaching him, he enjoyed the sand and dipping his toes in the ocean (all on his own!). He is getting more and more familiar with a leash and enjoys going on walks. He is not super high energy but enjoys going outside and sniffing around and walking with his people/other dogs. Fitz would thrive in an environment around other dogs who enjoy playing. He has other dogs in the house to play with and he can go all day long. He learns very well from other dogs and while he is nervous of new dogs while he is out and about, once he makes a new friend, they become the best of friends. Having another dog to play with him would be significantly important. He would also do best with a fenced in yard. Fitz is not a dog who will just run off. Even when other dogs approach him or are running around near where he is, he stays close by and does not like to leave your side. Although he is a little independent, he will still be your shadow and likes to be in whatever room you may be in. Fitz is scheduled to be neutered in Sept.
