Story
Pre-Failure Stage One Kidney Disease Two months ago, we were asked to rescue a young dog that had a horrific wound that had been untreated. It was a dire situation. The wound had become terribly infected and the little dog was so weak and in pain. We were so fortunate to have a foster who was able to take on a medical dog. And so Fluffy Duffy joined Grateful Dogs Rescue. Fluffy was just 10 months old and in very rough shape. We were very worried about his prognosis. But thanks to the amazing care he received in his foster homeand incredible vet care and his own fiesty spirit, Fluffy won the battle. Fluffy is now 12 months old. He is 11 lbs. And he is ready for adoption. He knows he is very handsome. And to add to the great looks, he is NICE. Fluffy is affectionate, friendly and he is a cuddler. Fluffy is good with other dogs. He loves car rides. Fluffy enjoys the outdoors. Fluffy is now ready for adoption. He is neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. His leg is in great shape, only thing left is for his fur to grow in :) During his medical care, we became aware of elevated SDMA levels. As he healed, the numbers improved GREATLY but he still does have slightly elevated SDMA. This means that Fluffy Duffy in in Stage 1 of Kidney Disease, Pre-failure. His veterinarian's explanation: Fluffy Duffy's kidney values are doing very well with only a mild elevation in one - the SDMA. This means he is in stage 1 of kidney insufficiency according to the International Renal Interest Society guidelines. Keeping him on the kidney prescription food in the long term, will give him the best chance of slowing progression as much as possible. He should minimally have yearly exams and bloodwork, ideally twice yearly to monitor progression of his kidney health. As time passes, his kidneys will likely worsen at some point and he will need more intensive care and management. I am unable to predict when this will happen. Fluffy loves his prescription kibble. Many companies offer this food. Currently, he is eating Blue Buffalo Natural Veterinary Diet KD Kidney Support Kibble. Grateful Dogs Rescue incurs substantial veterinary and other expenses in rescuing our dogs. In order to recoup some of these costs, we request a tax-deductible donation for each adoption. The suggested donation for FLUFFY DUFFY is $300. If you are interested in adopting FLUFFY DUFFY , please complete our online adoption application at https://www.gratefuldogsrescue.org/adoption-process/ . One of our volunteers will get back to you. Adoptions are local, confined to the SF Bay Area. December 3, 2023, 2:54 pm
