Leo is a larger-than-life personality wrapped in a fluffy 7–8-year-old Pomeranian body. Rescued from an empty parking lot in Lake Station, Indiana, in the dead of winter, Leo’s story is one of resilience, healing, and finding his place in the world. When Leo came into rescue, he was in rough shape—but thanks to dedicated vet care, a high-quality diet, weekly baths, and a whole lot of love, he’s made an incredible recovery. His coat has come back beautifully, and he’ll need regular brushing to keep his skin and hair in top-notch condition. He is friendly and loves people and does great with other dogs. He’ll need a guardian who understands dog body language, respects boundaries, and can reassure without forcing. Because of his sensitivity, Leo needs a home with children over the age of 14. What Leo Loves: -Potty Time: House-trained and vocal when he needs to go out. He’s not pee-pad trained but enjoys walks and marking his outdoor territory—never inside. -Personal Space: He loves basking in sunbeams and observing the world. -Respect and Routine: Affection is welcomed—but on his terms. He enjoys being held and spending time with people he trusts. He’s not a constant cuddler but loves calm, respectful companionship and short bursts of attention. Leo is vocal and not shy about speaking up when his needs aren’t met—he’s got a big bark and isn’t afraid to use it. Leo is spunky, smart, and full of character. He’s a one-of-a-kind companion who’ll offer loyalty, laughs, and love. Like many dogs with a tough past, he can be uncomfortable with vet handling or grooming. He does best with a gentle, experienced approach and a muzzle for safety during those times. In everyday life, he’s a wonderful dog who loves his people and routines. Meet Hobart, a Pomeranian that was part of a rescue mission that saved 62 discarded puppy mill survivors. Given his tough start to life, Hobart spends most of his time decompressing and adjusting to a home environment. He enjoys quiet exploration with short bursts of social play with the resident dogs in his foster home. His ideal home will be one that can provide a predictable routine with patient, loving pawrents who can show him just how safe the right home can be. Hobart currently lives with five dogs (two large and three small) and two cats. He enjoys short, low-intensity play sessions with the small dogs and coexists peacefully with the larger dogs, whom he generally ignores. His interactions are brief and self-directed, and he benefits from being allowed to initiate contact at his own pace. He has also had positive interactions with the resident cats in his foster home. Hobart is most relaxed and secure when nested into soft blankets or on a heating pad. At this stage, providing quiet comfort and a sense of safety is more rewarding for him than traditional forms of play or enrichment. As his confidence grows, gentle exploration and low-pressure enrichment opportunities may become more meaningful to him. With the support of a loving family, Hobart will continue to show glimmers of adaptability and resilience that are truly rewarding to see. With the right environment and steady, compassionate care, Hobart has the potential to continue unfolding at his own pace. And what a special sight to see!
