Story
Willem is a 1½-year-old, 65-pound husky with a big heart, a brilliant mind, and enough energy for every adventure on your calendar. He’s affectionate, athletic, curious, playful, food-motivated, and just the right amount of goofy. When it’s time to get moving, Willem is all in. He loves running, long walks, playing with other dogs, car rides, and exploring new places. This smart boy has done very well with other dogs in daycare, group play, and off-leash settings. He loves his canine friends and could potentially be an only dog with plenty of regular socialization and opportunities to play. Willem is also good with kids of all ages. His experience with cats is unknown, but he has a very high prey drive, so a home without cats would likely be the safest fit. Willem is potty trained and learns quickly, thanks to his clever husky brain and strong food motivation. He isn’t a fan of the crate, but he has not shown resource guarding or destructive behavior with his current foster. When left alone, he may bark or whine at first, but he has been able to settle after several minutes. Willem is a major escape artist, so he needs a very secure, tall fence and careful supervision whenever he’s outside. He can become bored without enough exercise and mental stimulation, and a determined husky with a plan is not something to underestimate! The wonderful news is that once Willem’s exercise and enrichment needs are met, he settles beautifully. He’s happy to relax, cuddle, and sleep after a full day of fun. His ideal family will enjoy an active lifestyle and want a smart, adventurous dog who can be involved in everything from morning walks to weekend explorations.
