Story
Looks like: Pug Male, 3 years old (estimated), 22 pounds Don't let his blindness fool you! Biggie sees the world through his heart, and what he sees is LOVE. Biggie is a sweet Pug with a gentle soul and a big personality. Despite being blind, he navigates life with the help of his other senses and, of course, his favorite humans! This little guy is incredibly affectionate, fantastic with children, and great with other dogs. He's calm, cuddly, and happiest when he's near his people. Biggie would thrive in a home where someone is around most of the day. He's a true companion dog who wants nothing more than to be by your side (or in your lap!). Whether it's naptime, playtime, or just being your shadow around the house, Biggie is all in. He's got so much love to give and is looking for a family who will cherish his unique needs and bottomless heart. If you're ready to welcome a sweet, special boy into your life, Biggie is ready to love you forever. This adorable, resilient guy joined us after his senior guardian could no longer care for him. He had some skin issues that needed care, but he's on track to have the most beautiful Pug fur soon!

Story
Meet Boy, the 2 year old male pug. Boy came to the Shelter after his previous guardian was unable to continue caring for him. He was surrendered with a female shih tzu mix (who has since been adopted). Boy is a goofy, high energy boy who has been eager to interact with staff and volunteers since his arrival. He is exuberant when out and sometimes pulls on leash. Boy has lived with children ages 2 and 7 years old previously. He also had a feline friend who he would occasionally cuddle with. Any cats in the home should be introduced in a slow, thoughtful manner. Boy was primarily outdoors in his previous home so he may need some patience in the transition to indoor living for things such as potty training.Boy has some dental health needs that his next adopters should be mindful of. Any potential adopters can discuss this further with the clinic staff if they are interested in pursuing adoption. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering “Pawsitivity Bucks” with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz location’s Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end “meet and greets” (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If you’d like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Story
Roscoe is a playful, affectionate puppy who loves his toys and snuggling on the couch. He's sweet, smart, silly, and always ready to make you smile. Energy Level?  Medium to high. House trained?  Yes. Describe how they are on leash?  Roscoe loves going for walks. He enjoys leading the way but doesn't pull excessively. He can be a little hesitant when putting on his harness, but once it's on, he walks very nicely. Describe how they are with other dogs?  Roscoe loves playing with other dogs in the home and enjoys having a canine playmate. He can become excited when seeing dogs while on leash, but once he's off leash and comfortable, he plays appropriately and has a great time. Have they been around cats or other animals? How were they? Roscoe has not been around cats or other animals, so we're unsure how he would do. Commands they know? Roscoe is a smart puppy who is eager to learn. He may already know "sit" and is picking up new skills quickly. What are their favorite things? Eating, playing with toys, going for walks, and cuddling on the couch or in any cozy spot. What do they need to work on? Like most puppies, Roscoe is still learning good manners. He sometimes tries to pick up "treasures" on walks and may sneak a sock if given the opportunity. With continued positive training and supervision, he'll continue to make great progress. How are they when left alone? How long have they been left alone? Roscoe may whine briefly when first left in his pen, but he settles down quickly and relaxes. He's continuing to build confidence with alone time. Where do they sleep? Roscoe sleeps comfortably in his crate. What is their ideal home? Roscoe would thrive in a home where he has plenty of opportunities to play, explore, and continue learning. He'd love another playful dog to romp around with, but he'd also do well with an active family committed to giving him daily exercise, enrichment, and lots of love. Once he's burned off his puppy energy, he's happiest curled up on the couch for snuggles. Roscoe is a sweet, silly, and intelligent puppy who is sure to bring joy, laughter, and plenty of love to his forever family.
