Chato needs a foster—or even better, a foster-to-adopt home Chato is a 1-year-old male pug mix and one of the many sweet dogs in East San Jose who’ve spent most of their young lives outdoors. His family is ended up letting him go , as the husband recently suffered a serious head injury and is preparing for surgery, while the wife is balancing everything alone—including caring for their 2-year-old (whom Chato absolutely adored). We met Chato, and thanks to a kind offer for temporary housing, the family felt safe surrendering him to our rescue. Now, this little guy is ready for the next chapter: a loving foster home—or even better, a foster-to-adopt family. Chato is friendly, affectionate, and still has that puppy sweetness. He loves playing with other dogs and his toys, but more than anything, he loves being near people—likely because he didn’t get to spend much time indoors or close to humans, having lived and slept in an outdoor kennel. Pug / Dachshund Mix Age: ≈ 4 years old Female, spayed 15 lbs Adoption Fee: $125 (includes spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations) Cheerio came to the Sacramento County Shelter underweight and with an embedded foxtail in her neck. It was removed surgically, but post-op they had trouble stopping the bleeding. She tested negative for any blood clotting disorder - perhaps the surgery nicked an artery? Eventually, the bleeding stopped, but it left her anemic. The shelter needed a rescue group that specializes in medical cases to continue addressing her veterinary needs. Over time in foster care, her anemia improved and she gained her weight back. She is a very friendly, sweet dog. She likes attention and affection from her foster parents and volunteers. She likes roughhousing with the younger, larger dogs in her foster home. She doesn’t like being confined or kept away from the activities of the home. Crate training would be pretty difficult - lots of barking. Apartment living may not be the best option for her. We have no experience with her as an only dog. We would recommend that she go to a home with other playful, friendly dogs. Please note that we don’t adopt any of our dogs out to homes with children under the age of 13. Casey is a 17 lb pug mix - like most pugs, Casey seems to be affectionate, playful, and adaptable. Casey had one of her eyes removed prior to coming to us due to a previous injury, which just makes her look even more unique! We are still getting to know her, but we can say this is one sweet girl.

Learn more herePikachu is an adorable pug mix, 2 years old and 11 pounds, with the cutest little snaggle tooth that will absolutely steal your heart. A silly boy full of personality, he loves to crawl around and spin in joyful circles when he’s excited, which is often! In his foster home, Pikachu is playful and does well with other dogs. He’s also a champion snuggler once he feels comfortable, though he can be a bit nervous around new people. He'll thrive with someone patient and experienced who will help him build confidence at his own pace. Older kids who can respect his boundaries would be fine. Pikachu is mostly potty trained and fully crate trained. He can be left alone, but he might bark if he thinks you’re home and not including him. Pikachu does have a chase instinct (birds beware!), so a home without cats or small animals is best. If you’re looking for a goofy, affectionate little guy with a crooked smile and a big heart, Pikachu could be a great addition to your home.
