Meet Dexter - Looking for the Right Forever Home!Dexter is a sweet, lovable boy who is looking for a patient and understanding home where he can truly thrive. I rescued him from a shelter in March, and while I don't know what his life was like before then, it's clear he has been through a lot.He is the kind of dog who loves being near his people. He'll happily follow you from room to room just to see what you're doing and enjoys simply sitting beside you. While Dexter isn't comfortable being petted or picked up, he shows his affection by wanting to be close to the people he trusts. Once you've earned his confidence, he'll become your loyal little shadow.As much as I love him, I've made the heartbreaking decision to find him a new home because I have young children who don't fully understand that Dexter doesn't like being touched. With my kids and their friends frequently in the house, I can't provide the calm, predictable environment he needs to feel safe.

He moves along on a loose leash and has shown he can comfortably pass people, children, other dogs, and even busy park activity without reacting. He’s house-trained, knows “sit,” and settles in nicely at home, often choosing to relax nearby while you go about your day. He also has a playful side that comes out in bursts of zoomies, games of fetch, and enthusiastic squirrel-watching. He enjoys time in the yard, exploring, and splashing in shallow water, but just as quickly returns to check in for affection and reassurance.
