Story
?? Meet Mongo! ??What can we say about this handsome boy? Mongo is a one-year-old Victorian Bulldog. What’s a Victorian Bulldog, you ask? The breed was developed with the goal of improving upon some of the breathing and structural issues commonly seen in traditional Bulldogs.Unfortunately, Mongo didn’t have the best start in life, and he came to rescue with very little training and quite a few things to learn. We’re working with him now, and while he has made progress, Mongo will need an adopter who understands that training—and continued training—is a must with this breed.Mongo is a 73-pound puppy in a Bulldog body! ?? He is strong, goofy, playful, and will need someone who is willing to provide him with the guidance, structure, and consistency he needs. One of Mongo’s biggest challenges is separation anxiety, and he is not a fan of being crated. This is something we are actively working on with him. He is about 99% housebroken and, when left loose in the home, is usually very good.Mongo cannot live with cats or smaller dogs. His play style is very rough, as is common with many Bulldogs, and he needs canine companions who can handle his size and play style. He currently coexists well with a 10-year-old Pit Bull mix.For Mongo, we are looking for a home with someone who has Bulldog or similar breed experience and is committed to continuing his training and helping him become the best version of himself. We truly believe that with the right person, continued training, patience, and consistency, Mongo is going to make an amazing companion. ??He just needs someone who will look past the challenges, see the wonderful dog underneath, and—most importantly—not give up on him again.Could you be Mongo’s person? ????Please check back for updates as the animal coordinators or foster family gets to know me.
