Story
Puma is a very sweet, outgoing, and friendly 7 year old rat terrier. She has spent her life having puppies and is now ready to be spoiled in her new home. She is a really sweet and overall easy dog who would make a good addition to most homes. Her favorite hobbies are convincing her foster mom to give her treats and snacks, hanging out on the patio keeping a watch for chipmunks, chewing on bully sticks or other healthy chews, and snuggling up on the couch in the evening. She is very social. She loves to snuggle and cuddle. She definitely thinks she's a lap dog. She is playful and likes to shake shake shake her toys - like a good rat terrier. She is good with dogs. Unknown how she is with cats but may do ok with slow introductions. Her foster home doesn't have children but we think she would be fine with kids. She has done well meeting kids at adoption events. The only consideration is that she does jump for attention so that might be overwhelming for very small kiddos. She is great in a kennel overnight and when her foster mom leaves the home. She is mostly potty trained - just a few transition accidents. She is working on confidently walking on a leash. She's making good progress but because of this, at this time a securely fenced-in yard is required for her safety. She is a little on the overweight side. While this just means there is more of her to love, she definitely needs a home committed to helping her with a weight loss plan for her long term health. They key is monitored food intake and daily exercise - even if that exercise is just running around the yard. She's already lost some weight in foster care so should be able to get to a healthy weight pretty easily with continued guidance from her new family. Otherwise she has a clean bill of health from the vet. She is spayed, current on vaccines, heartworm and flea/tick disease free and microchipped! Adoption fee: $450 plus tax. ❤️🐾 Apply to adopt at www.campcompanion.org

Story
Meet Daisy — a little girl finally getting the second chance she’s always deserved. At 9 years old, Daisy is discovering what it truly means to be loved. Before entering foster care in January, she spent much of her life living on a farm, often in a garage, without the comfort, stability, and companionship every dog should know. Since then, her foster family has watched her slowly blossom into a devoted and affectionate companion.Daisy has made incredible progress in foster care. She is now kennel-trained, leash-trained, and learning household routines beautifully. She does well with pottying outside when let out consistently and continues improving with patience and structure each day.Because of her past, Daisy is looking for a very specific forever home where she can feel safe and secure. After years of relying only on herself, she prefers to be the only pet and would do best in a home without children. Early in foster care, she could be reactive when uncomfortable, but once her pain was identified and properly managed with medication, her true personality began to shine. With trust, consistency, and feeling physically better, she has formed strong bonds with her foster dad and the adults she knows best. And the real Daisy? She’s a sweetheart. A quiet shadow who simply wants to be near her people, soaking up love and companionship. She would thrive in a calm, lower-activity home with a single person or couple willing to continue giving her the understanding and stability she has worked so hard to trust. Daisy will need ongoing pain management, but in return she’ll offer unwavering loyalty, gentle companionship, and a whole lot of love. She may not have always had the chance to be this dog — but now she does. Could you be the one to give Daisy the peaceful forever home she deserves?Daisy is spayed and up to date on all age-appropriate vaccinations. To schedule a meet-and-greet, contact:• 507-451-4512 • steelecountyhumanesociety@gmail.com Adoption fee: $150

Story
You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.Callahan came to the shelter on 4/7/2026 from the city pound when his stray hold was finished. He is pure energy in canine form. He is 12 to 18 months old and looks to be a pit bull type mix, maybe with a smaller breed like rat terrier or Jack Russell. He definitely has all the bells and whistles of a young, active dog. He has been vet checked, neutered, and microchipped, and his fee is $150. Callahan needs someone who is ready, willing, and able to provide him with the training and exercise that he needs. He's a friendly guy but has obviously forgotten where his manners are, if he ever had them. However, the kid has potential (we're optimists). We think he'll be a lot of fun for someone. He really has a happy go lucky personality. Callahan would do best in a home without small kids. We're not yet sure how he would do with other dogs. Cats are most likely a no.  NOTE:  Adoptions are done via private appointment once an application has been completed and approved. Applications must be submitted at our website, mchs.rescuegroups.org. We are located at 101 22nd St. SE in Austin, right next to the airport. It's exit 180B off of I-90, right off of 218 South. We do require that potential adopters be at least 21 years old and that any resident dogs be up to date on vaccinations, heartworm testing/preventatives, and spayed or neutered.Visit this organization's web site to see any additional information available about this pet.July 11, 2026, 8:08 pm
