Story
We are a matched based adoption agency, if you see a dog in our program in which you are interested in adopting, please fill out our online application at kcpaws.org and one of our adoptions counselors will be in touch once your application has been screened. Please note that we do require dogs to meet all members of the family including existing pets in the home before finalizing during your in home adoption. Aliyah is about 6 years old, spayed, up to date on all vetting, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is Sponsored! Aliyah came to us from a neglect case and has been with a foster to help her come out of her shell. She is used to living with other dogs around her size or smaller. She can be timid meeting new dogs but as long as the dog is friendly and gives her time to adjust she does very well. Aliyah is a very fearful dog when in new situations and meeting new people and can be especially fearful of men. Once she trusts someone she does become very attached but she will need a lot of TLC and patience to trust another new person in a new environment. She can be reactive in moments of fear, or protective of her person with strangers. Her thundershirt makes her more brave and once her leash is on, she understands that it's time to go and she gets a bit more confident and relaxed. Aliyah absolutely LOVES walks, stuffed toys, treats, and is affectionate once you've gained her trust. She will need continued training through her trust issues with a confident and patient owner who has experience working with dogs who may have experienced trauma. She is not an appropriate fit for a home with children. The right person will undoubtedly bring out her affectionate and joyful side, it will just take time, patience, and consistent work to get her there.

Story
Cleo is an approximately 1-year-old small breed mix who came to us from a home with 81 dogs. She has a lot to learn about normal pet life, but one thing she has already figured out is that being close to people is pretty wonderful. Cleo is a super snuggly girl who loves being near her people and soaking up attention. She has been doing great going potty outside with no accidents in her foster home. She’s still learning the rules of living in a house—including that dining tables aren't actually dog furniture—and will need a little patience and guidance as she settles into a new routine. Cleo is affectionate, curious and ready to keep discovering all the good things that come with being part of a family. All Heart of America Humane Society dogs are spayed/neutered, microchipped, and up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations. Adoption fee is $250. Story
Toby is a 9 year old rat terrier male. He is a very sweet boy. His favorite thing to do is to cuddle under the blankets on your lap. Toby would be a perfect companion with an elderly, older children, he does well with dogs his size but not bigger dogs. His dislikes are to be picked up and small children. He’s never been around cats. He is potty trained however of not let out on a schedule he will potty in the house. No medical issues and very healthy. He loves to play with toys and still has lots of life and love to go give. I am only rehoming due to my demanding job and don’t have time for a pet.

DOB: 3/14/26                                  Current Weight(as of 5/28/26): 6 Lbs. Adoption Fee: $275 includes 1 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness. Harper is a 4-month-old puppy of personality, love, and nonstop puppy energy. She is playful, curious, and always ready for her next adventure — whether that’s zooming around the yard, wrestling with dog friends, or exploring everything around her. She is VERY active and will need a family that can keep up with busy puppy life. A securely fenced yard is required for Harper and we have recently found out that she can climb chainlink so she will need a solid wood type fence. She would thrive in a home with another playful dog or with active families who enjoy walks, playtime, and lots of interaction. Even with all her energy, she has a sweet snuggly side. Once worn out from playing, she loves nothing more than curling up close for cuddles and naps. She is affectionate, loving, and eager to be part of a family.  Like all puppies, she is still learning house manners and routines, so their new families should be prepared to continue training with patience and consistency. With love, structure, and exercise, she will make a wonderful companion! Puppies are NOT housebroken and should not be expected to wait more than 1 hour for each month of age to go out to potty. Please make sure that you have a “potty plan” in place if considering adoption. All of our puppies have been spay/neuter, wormed, microchipped, and given age appropriate vaccinations. If you are interested in meeting/adopting one of them just fill out a application at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, click on the 'Adopt A Dog' icon and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch.  Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient.  You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from 11am to 2:00 p.m.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!!  Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/  for more information. Thanks for your support!
