Story
We are a matched based adoption agency, if you see a dog in our program in which you are interested in adopting, please fill out our online application at kcpaws.org and one of our adoptions counselors will be in touch once your application has been screened. Please note that we do require dogs to meet all members of the family including existing pets in the home before finalizing during your in home adoption. Aliyah is about 6 years old, spayed, up to date on all vetting, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is Sponsored! Aliyah came to us from a neglect case and has been with a foster to help her come out of her shell. She is used to living with other dogs around her size or smaller. She can be timid meeting new dogs but as long as the dog is friendly and gives her time to adjust she does very well. Aliyah is a very fearful dog when in new situations and meeting new people and can be especially fearful of men. Once she trusts someone she does become very attached but she will need a lot of TLC and patience to trust another new person in a new environment. She can be reactive in moments of fear, or protective of her person with strangers. Her thundershirt makes her more brave and once her leash is on, she understands that it's time to go and she gets a bit more confident and relaxed. Aliyah absolutely LOVES walks, stuffed toys, treats, and is affectionate once you've gained her trust. She will need continued training through her trust issues with a confident and patient owner who has experience working with dogs who may have experienced trauma. She is not an appropriate fit for a home with children. The right person will undoubtedly bring out her affectionate and joyful side, it will just take time, patience, and consistent work to get her there.

Story
DOB: 3/14/26                                  Current Weight(as of 5/28/26): 6 Lbs. Adoption Fee: $275 includes 1 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness. Harper is a 4-month-old puppy of personality, love, and nonstop puppy energy. She is playful, curious, and always ready for her next adventure — whether that’s zooming around the yard, wrestling with dog friends, or exploring everything around her. She is VERY active and will need a family that can keep up with busy puppy life. A securely fenced yard is required for Harper and we have recently found out that she can climb chainlink so she will need a solid wood type fence. She would thrive in a home with another playful dog or with active families who enjoy walks, playtime, and lots of interaction. Even with all her energy, she has a sweet snuggly side. Once worn out from playing, she loves nothing more than curling up close for cuddles and naps. She is affectionate, loving, and eager to be part of a family.  Like all puppies, she is still learning house manners and routines, so their new families should be prepared to continue training with patience and consistency. With love, structure, and exercise, she will make a wonderful companion! Puppies are NOT housebroken and should not be expected to wait more than 1 hour for each month of age to go out to potty. Please make sure that you have a “potty plan” in place if considering adoption. All of our puppies have been spay/neuter, wormed, microchipped, and given age appropriate vaccinations. If you are interested in meeting/adopting one of them just fill out a application at www.furrykidsrefuge.org, click on the 'Adopt A Dog' icon and a dedicated volunteer will be in touch.  Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient.  You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from 11am to 2:00 p.m.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!!  Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/  for more information. Thanks for your support! Story
Approx. DOB: 5/15/23                 Approx. Weight: 15.5 Lbs Adoption Fee: $275 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness! Meet Jemma – A Little Dog with a Big Comeback Story! At approximately 3 years old and weighing just 12 pounds, Jemma is the perfect little companion with a heart that's learning to trust again. We believe she's a Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix, though that's just our best guess. Jemma came to us from a small rural Missouri shelter, and when she first arrived in her foster home, it was clear life had been overwhelming for her. She was so frightened that even gentle pets on her head made her flinch. But thanks to patience, love, and a safe place to land, Jemma has blossomed into an entirely different dog. Today, she's affectionate, playful, and loves being with her people. She's fully housebroken, crate trained, and leash trained, making her an easy companion to have around the house. Jemma already knows sit and stay, and she's almost mastered shake—she's a smart little girl who truly enjoys learning and wants to please. Jemma gets along wonderfully with the dogs in her foster home as well as visiting canine friends. She enjoys playing and would likely do well with another friendly dog who can continue to build her confidence. Because of her past, Jemma is still cautious around new people. She can become nervous when meeting strangers and may bark or appear unsure until she realizes she's safe. Her forever family will need to understand that trust isn't given immediately—it is earned. Once Jemma knows you're one of her people, she is incredibly loyal, loving, and devoted. Jemma has already come so far, and we know her best days are still ahead of her. She's looking for a patient family willing to give her the time she needs to settle in and let her amazing personality continue to shine. Please no children under the age of 13.  If you're the kind of person who believes the most rewarding relationships are built on patience, kindness, and trust, Jemma is waiting to show you just how special she truly is. Could you be the one she's been waiting for?  I have been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative and microchipped.  If you are interested in adopting me, please complete the adoption application located at www.furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible.
