At 11 years young, this adorable 13-pound Rat Terrier proves that age is just a number. Barnaby is a bright and curious little guy who loves walks at the park, squeaky toys, and riding shotgun on car adventures.  He settled into his foster home like he'd lived there forever—he's got that confident Terrier swagger and isn't shy about making himself comfortable!  Friendly with both men and women, Barnaby loves to curl up next to his favorite person for a cozy couch snuggle. He is also house trained and very food motivated. He sleeps quietly through the night in his crate in the bedroom.  With a proper introduction, Barnaby gets along with other dogs and  with cats.  He currently shares his foster home with both a large and a small dog, and two senior cats. He immediately befriended the smaller dog and just needed a little time to adjust to a bigger canine companion.  He’d probably do best with bigger dogs if they are calm and easy going.   We haven't seen Barnaby interact with children, but we think he'd do best in a home without little ones.  If you're looking for a fun-sized sidekick with a playful spirit and a big personality, Barnaby is your guy. He's ready to trade foster life for a forever home where he can enjoy daily adventures, endless snuggles, and all the love he deserves.   Approximate Birthdate:   June 2015 Adoption Fee: $200 TARA's adoption fee includes: spay/neuter, age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, heartworm test (if age appropriate), heartworm and flea prevention, and deworming.  TARA's pets are all eligible for a TWO WEEK TRIAL. Due to the fact that many of our dogs come from the local city shelters, we do not know the background of many of them and therefore cannot always guarantee age or breed.  Size is subjective but we use the following guidelines:  Small 25 lbs (11 kg) or less Med. 26-60 lbs (12-27 kg) Large 61-100 lbs (28-45 kg) X-Large 101 lbs (46 kg) or more For more information please fill out an application.   CONTACT INFO The Animal Rescue Alliance (TARA) Web site: tarasdream.org Adoption Information & Applications: https://tarasdream.org/adopt Upcoming Adoption Events: https://tarasdream.org/events Email: email@tarasdream.org August 1, 2026, 10:08 pm

Story
We are a matched based adoption agency, if you see a dog in our program in which you are interested in adopting, please fill out our online application at kcpaws.org and one of our adoptions counselors will be in touch once your application has been screened. Please note that we do require dogs to meet all members of the family including existing pets in the home before finalizing during your in home adoption. Aliyah is about 6 years old, spayed, up to date on all vetting, and microchipped. Her adoption fee is Sponsored! Aliyah came to us from a neglect case and has been with a foster to help her come out of her shell. She is used to living with other dogs around her size or smaller. She can be timid meeting new dogs but as long as the dog is friendly and gives her time to adjust she does very well. Aliyah is a very fearful dog when in new situations and meeting new people and can be especially fearful of men. Once she trusts someone she does become very attached but she will need a lot of TLC and patience to trust another new person in a new environment. She can be reactive in moments of fear, or protective of her person with strangers. Her thundershirt makes her more brave and once her leash is on, she understands that it's time to go and she gets a bit more confident and relaxed. Aliyah absolutely LOVES walks, stuffed toys, treats, and is affectionate once you've gained her trust. She will need continued training through her trust issues with a confident and patient owner who has experience working with dogs who may have experienced trauma. She is not an appropriate fit for a home with children. The right person will undoubtedly bring out her affectionate and joyful side, it will just take time, patience, and consistent work to get her there.

Story
Approx. DOB: 5/15/23                 Approx. Weight: 11 Lbs Adoption Fee: $275 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness! Meet Jemma – A Little Dog with a Big Comeback Story! At approximately 3 years old and weighing just 11 pounds, Jemma is the perfect little companion with a heart that's learning to trust again. We believe she's a Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix, though that's just our best guess. Jemma came to us from a small rural Missouri shelter, and when she first arrived in her foster home, it was clear life had been overwhelming for her. She was so frightened that even gentle pets on her head made her flinch. But thanks to patience, love, and a safe place to land, Jemma has blossomed into an entirely different dog. Today, she's affectionate, playful, and loves being with her people. She's fully housebroken, crate trained, and leash trained, making her an easy companion to have around the house. Jemma already knows sit and stay, and she's almost mastered shake—she's a smart little girl who truly enjoys learning and wants to please. Jemma gets along wonderfully with the dogs in her foster home as well as visiting canine friends. She enjoys playing and would likely do well with another friendly dog who can continue to build her confidence. Because of her past, Jemma is still cautious around new people. She can become nervous when meeting strangers and may bark or appear unsure until she realizes she's safe. Her forever family will need to understand that trust isn't given immediately—it is earned. Once Jemma knows you're one of her people, she is incredibly loyal, loving, and devoted. Jemma has already come so far, and we know her best days are still ahead of her. She's looking for a patient family willing to give her the time she needs to settle in and let her amazing personality continue to shine. If you're the kind of person who believes the most rewarding relationships are built on patience, kindness, and trust, Jemma is waiting to show you just how special she truly is. Could you be the one she's been waiting for?  I have been spayed, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative and microchipped.  If you are interested in adopting me, please complete the adoption application located at www.furrykidsrefuge.org/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible.   Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient.  You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from 11am to 2:00 p.m.  Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law.  Would you like to foster a Furry Kid? Furry Kids' Refuge will supply the food & vet care while you supply the basic house rules & love.......win-win for all!!  Just visit our website http://www.furrykidsrefuge.org/category/fostering/  for more information. Thanks for your support! Story
COURTESY POST Nelly prefers sleeping on two dog beds, stacked if you don't mind, so all 30 pounds of her can feel like a perfect puppy princess. She loves being with her people—car rides, snuggles, play time, walks, or just hanging out. She's super smart and very much agrees that she's a well-rounded dog. Nelly is 8 years old and needs to be the only dog in her home. She'd do best in an adult-only home or one with older kids (the little ones make her nervous). She's housetrained and crate trained, too! Adopt Nelly, and she'll be your perfect, loyal companion. Nelly's current owners are heartbroken about having to give Nelly up; they are willing to transport Nelly from the St. Louis area to her new home, wherever that might be. Call or text The Pet Connection for more information. 913-671-7387.
