Opalite is one of the pups from our Swifties group. She is a two year old, 9 lb Rat Terrier/Chihuahua mix. She and nine other small dogs were dumped on a country road in East Texas, and Humane Tomorrow took them all into our adoption program. Foster mom says that Opalite is very sweet but still unsure of this big world. She is ok with other small dogs, especially those about her size, as long as they are more settled. She does not play with other dogs or toys yet and her favorite spot is in your lap. She is a little anxious in a busy household. Not sure how she would do around young children, so best for older kids and above. Adopters will need to give her a few days to settle in and feel safe, then she will be the best lap dog ever. She has now been fully vetted and ready for adoption. If you would like to give Opalite a forever home that really does last forever, please submit your application, and an adoption counselor will contact you.

When he first arrived, he was completely shut down. He isn’t a perfect dog—and he may never be. He still hides sometimes. He doesn’t go outside on his own yet. He uses pee pads most of the time. But what Dodger does have is a heart full of love and a deep desire to feel safe. He plays in the yard now. He climbs into my lap for comfort. He sleeps in my bed and comes back to me when he’s scared. Every small step he takes is a victory. Dodger will be a wonderful companion for someone patient and kind—someone who understands that love doesn’t come in a perfect package. He’s ready to give his whole heart. This adorable little girl is just over a year old and weighs about 12.5 pounds. She’s fully vetted, heartworm negative, microchipped, and making great progress with her potty training. Her adoption fee is only $25! She came from a hoarding situation where dogs were kept in crates in a small apartment, so crates aren’t her favorite place to be. But, it sometimes can be her safety place. Understandably, she’s still a bit nervous and learning to trust. Sometimes she’s too scared to be caught, but with patience, gentleness, and time, she’ll come around and show her true loving nature. Because of her background, she’s not a good fit for apartment living—she’ll need a secure backyard where she can safely explore and feel comfortable.
