MEET HOWIE! This happy, gentle Lab-Ridgeback-Pit mix is a loverboy! Howie is 6 years young and has a heart full of love to give. He was rescued from a California shelter in very rough shape - he had major skin issues/hair loss and had clearly been neglected, but now he looks so much better, and continues to be on good salmon food and supplements. He's appreciative of love and attention and is a very affectionate boy. Howie is a big snuggler and will want to share your bed! He loves going for walks and other outings. He is good with some dogs but not others, so would probably thrive as the only dog in the home, or with a submissive female. He's been waiting a long time for his own home, and we're hoping he can find a home by the end of the year. Howie currently needs a foster or forever home. He weighs about 55-60 lbs., and is still in California and available to meet! Please email for an application.

Hi there! My name is Simba and I'm at the Santa Barbara Campus. I'm a 9 month old, Male, Ridgeback, Rhodesian/Retriever, Labrador Mix who came to SB Humane in search of a new caring home. Meet Simba, a pup with a BIG personality, an even bigger heart, and absolutely zero concept of personal space. If you’re looking for a fun-loving adventure buddy who lives life at full speed, Simba may just be your guy! Simba is the definition of a goofy teenage dog. He’s playful, bouncy, social, and always ready to turn every day into recess. He absolutely loves other dogs and thrives with playful canine friends who enjoy rough-and-tumble wrestling, chase games, and goofy mouthy play. He’s made tons of friends in playgroups and does best with dogs that can match his energetic, rambunctious style. Around people, Simba is happy, wiggly, and eager to say hello to everyone he meets. He has lived with kids and done well, though he can get a little *too* excited and may accidentally knock smaller kiddos over while trying to share his enthusiasm. Because of this, he’d benefit from a home committed to helping him continue working on impulse control and polite greetings. Simba has already shown he’s a smart boy with lots of potential. On outings, he settles nicely once he gets his initial excitement out, walks best on a harness or slip lead. He may bark at dogs occasionally out of frustration or excitement, but he has shown he can disengage quickly and refocus with guidance. He’s strong, energetic, and still learning his leash manners, so continued training will go a long way for this growing boy. The good news? Simba goes home with free basic manners classes to help him become the very best version of himself! Interested in meeting me? Adoption Centers are open daily 12-4:30pm, closed Wednesdays.
