Story
Hi my name is Red Foreman but my friends just call me Red, and I am told I am a very sweet boy. They think I am about 3.5 years old, 75 lbs, and I came up from Arkansas where I had been living in a shelter a VERY long time- like years long…and I mean people years. But then NDLB got a whiff of me and brought me here to MN to start living life in a home, and I gotta say I am loving it. Shelter life just wasn’t for me- I was a little too shy to get noticed, but in a home setting, my true personality comes out. Unlike my ‘That ‘70s Show’ namesake, I am NOT grumpy, impatient, or hard to please. A little love, a bowl of food, and a good belly rub are about all I need to make me happy. I am a shy boy, and tend to be skittish around new people, so don’t take it personally if I am nervous when we first meet. It seems like I warm up quicker to women over men, although I am non-discriminating when it comes to getting pets and scritches. I definitely pick one person in the household and gravitate more towards them. I have been very gentle with my foster mom and her friends. I did bark at her brother a few times to warn him to give me space, but backed away and retreated to my kennel. I did warm up to him after a few days, but I remain cautious. I have had limited interactions with children, but the few I have met, I let pet me although I was nervous. I have met some cats, and they seemed fine. I just ignored them. I have been good with my foster dog brothers, even trying to initiate some play when I get excited. I would love a doggy sibling, but I would also be content as an only dog. I haven’t picked up on this toy thing, although some of them are like small pillows, and I LIKE lying on pillows! As for energy, I am pretty chill overall. I get zoomies especially when I am getting let out of my crate, and I like my walks, but you would not describe me as high energy. My favorite spot is on the couch with you, but I do like my kennel, it makes me feel safe and I will go right in if you ask and stay quiet and content after a few barks to remind you to come back soon! I am fine in there overnight or when you are gone, I just don’t love not being in the same room as you if you are home. My mom lets me out some while she works and I have never been destructive or naughty when she isn’t looking. I usually just lie in her office in case she needs to give me a few pets between her calls. I did have a few accidents in the house when I first arrived, but I have since mastered only potting outside. I am a dream on walks, no pulling or barking, I just stay right by your side! I am also good in the car. Anyways, I would love to meet you and get to know you a bit better too! You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website.     Gorgeous Girl Gator (1y 9mo., 47lb) has been in shelter/foster care down in Alabama for over a year, and is ready to experience love from her own forever family humans!! Don't let her name fool you - she doesn't have puppy teefs anymore and is 100% sweetness and fun.   Gator loves running around in the yard, exploring all of the sniffs, and taking long naps on her doggy bed. She is doing well with her potty and crate training.   Gator also loves people, and has done well with other dogs, but really loves lower energy/older dogs to pal around with. She could probably live with out without another canine in the home.   She's a super smart girl who is eager and ready to learn more - being a young working breed mix, she would do famously well with some obedience or even agility! Cowabunga Dude!   Meet Rafael! He was born approximately March, 2024.  He came from a litter of 4. They named the puppies in the litter after the four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles!  We welcomed him into our home as our newest foster when he was around 5 weeks old. He was so tiny at 3 pounds that you could put him in your pocket. Boy has that changed! Today he weighs about 60 pounds! He's such a cute little snuggle bug. He loves to play and wrestle with his foster sister Wasp. He does great with our other two resident dogs as well! He's super friendly with everyone he meets. We're still working on the house training though. He will let you know when he needs to go outside to use the bathroom but if you don't stop what you're doing right away and let him out, he'll decide to just do his business wherever he's standing. He sleeps every night in crate with no issues at all. He gets along great with our children ages 8, 12, and 14. They love to sit and give him lots of love and attention. He has been in a foster home in Minneapolis for a few weeks. His current home is an apartment with one adult and one cat. Bruce has been learning potty training (outside and pads), walking on a leash, playing, and using his crate. He is playful in little bursts of energy, then winds down for a quick nap (often in his crate or on the sofa). He seems to get nervous on walks when other dogs are around. He’d really benefit from having a dog friend to help him play and socialize on doggy terms.  He barks at noises in the hallway, especially if it sounds like another dog (super normal and something we’re working on). He is not overly anxious but does display anxiety when I leave. He chases the cat but has caused no harm. He just wants to play. Super good boy and very loving. He usually sleeps in the bed with me and is a good snuggler.  He just takes a lot of energy and patience to help him go outside for potty breaks as needed, which is often, to not eat cat food and litter, to walk nicely on the leash (we’ve made lots of progress!) and to take naps as needed. He has visited a friend’s fenced yard a few times for running and playing and loved it! He loves the snow too.    He is going to grow into a big, strong, beautiful, loyal dog.    If you have previously applied with us please email placement@midwestanimalrescue.org to reactivate your application with new interest.All fees are subject to MN sales tax and a processing fee at the time of adoption. We accept Credit cards, Debit cards as well as cash. At this time we do not accept checks.
