Ricky is 11 years old and is looking for an incredibly special family to adopt him for the last chapter of his life. Sadly Ricky is being given up by the only family he has ever known due to his special needs. They have young children and feel they can no longer handle the care he requires. Ricky is described by his family as “the sweetest dog we've ever had. He is great around kids and is super full of life and energy, considering his circumstances” . Ricky is a Rhodesian Ridgeback mix and he suffered an FCE ( spinal stroke) about 2 and a 1/2 years ago. The FCE impacted the use of his legs, but through intense physical therapy we were able to regain function in his right rear leg. The left rear leg never gained function function back, so unfortunately, eventually it was amputated after 2 years. Ricky does best wearing a male diaper to prevent dripping/leaking, but he lets you know when he needs to go to the bathroom, by going to the door and barking. What a good boy !!! But since he had an FCE, it's usually a short fuse from when he barks to when he really needs to go.Ricky does sometimes use a wheelchair if he is going to be outside for an extended period of time, but he can also walk on three legs when he needs to. Ricky is in great health otherwise and this sweet boy will decline rapidly in a shelter environment. We would love nothing more than to find a loving foster home ( or forever ) home for him.

FAQs -- PLEASE READ ALL BEFORE EMAILING
All adoption fees are non-refundable
If paying by credit card, Venmo, or PayPal there is a set processing fee, generally this fee is under $15 per pet. These processing fees are determined by the form of payment adopters decide to use. By helping with this minimal cost this allows us to save more animals.
Please note that SNARR NE is a volunteer-based organization. While our volunteers will try to respond to you as quickly as possible, it is helpful if you review the below information about our adoption process before emailing:
LISTED BREED(S) & AGE: We are taking our best guess on age, breed, and size when fully grown, based on the puppy's/dog's physical appearance and what we might have learned about one or both parents depending on the situation. *NOTE* We rarely know a dog's exact age, nor are we able to tell the true or full breed mix of dogs as our information is limited most of the time. Because we often do not have access to medical records at the time that we are listing for dogs for adoption, there are sometimes discrepancies between what is posted on their profile and what might be listed on a dog's medical records.
SNARR'S ADOPTION PROCESS: The first step in adopting or meeting a SNARR dog/puppy is to fill out an application at https://snarrnortheast.org/adopt/. Once we receive your application, one of our adoption application processors will contact you, review our adoption process with you, and answer any additional questions you may have. **We do not go on a first-come-first-serve basis for adoptions, but on best fit for a family and most importantly the puppy or dog. **
MEETING ADOPTABLE DOGS: Meet and greets will not be scheduled until after your adoption application has been fully processed and approved by one of our adoption processors.
APPLYING ONLINE: If you fill out an online application, please do so from a computer (not a mobile device), make sure you answer ALL the questions in as much detail as possible, and that you receive a confirmation email. If you do not receive a confirmation email, that means we did NOT receive your application.
