Story
He was recused as a pup on the side of the road. I work a lot so I wasn’t much around for him much to be properly trained, he is anxious around anybody since he’s always been a stay at home dog. Runs away but always comes back when hes tired or hungry. Cant keep since landlord is up charging the pet rent to where I can no longer afford

Story
Meet Miss Winter Spice! This 1 year old rhodesion ridgeback mix came to us the day after Christmas, with a very tragic story to tell. Winter Spice was found running along the road by the Bryson City Welcome sign, hoping someone would stop and help her. Thankfully, a wonderful family did and brought her straight to P.A.W.S., where she was immediately assessed and taken care of by our team. Upon first look, you could tell she was very malnourished and extremely scared of people. She would not walk or even try to stand when people were near her out of fear that something would happen. For many days, our team would carry her outside to use the bathroom, then back inside to her bed, as she still would not walk out on her own.  She started to trust us more and more every day. It started with her ever so slightly wagging her tail when we would come into her room, and then she slowly started to stand up and walk over to us. We did everything at her own pace and never rushed her. In return, she showed us trust and a growing love. However, that is not quite the end of her story. We noticed she had some past trauma to her jaw. We would feel hard fragmints scaddered throughout her jaw and neck, but unsure of what they were. We immediately took her to the vet, where it was discovered her jaw was completely shattered, and what we were feeling was bullet fragments. We had so many questions for why someone would do this. How could anyone hurt an animal, let alone one as sweet and gentle as Winter Spice? We will never understand why these things happen, but one thing we do know is that we will never let anything happen to this sweet girl again.  other dogs and has made many friends here at the shelter, including Suki and Bama! She is still a bit scared of walking on a leash, but with a lot of patience and comfort, she will be ready to go out on walks in no time! She adores children and is such a sweet girl to everyone she meets. While Winter Spice still has a surgery coming up to reconstruct her jaw before she can be adopted, she would love to have some friendly faces come up and hang out with her at the shelter while she waits and heals.  Over the last month, Winter has grown into a completely different dog. What was once a scared girl is now a girl who wants all the attention, and to show everyone she meets love. She loves

Story
Papi is the sweetest little soul you could ever meet. He’s friendly with everyone, always greeting people with soft eyes and a gentle wag of his tail. He has a calm, quiet personality — he’s not loud or hyper, just peaceful and well-mannered. He’s completely house trained, which makes him such a good boy around the house. You never have to worry about him — he knows exactly how to behave. He’s the type of dog that just fits perfectly into your space without causing any trouble. What really makes Papi special though is how loving he is. He loves to cuddle. If you sit down, he’s right there next to you. If you lay down, he’s curled up close. He enjoys being near his person, giving comfort and soaking up affection. Papi isn’t just a dog — he’s a calm, loving, loyal companion who brings warmth and peace wherever he goes.

Story
Meet Roni — a 6&#226&#128&#145year&#226&#128&#145old, 53 lb Rhodesian Ridgeback mix with a heart full of love and a deep desire to be close to her people.   Quick Facts: Name: Roni Breed: Rhodesian Ridgeback Mix Age: 6 years old Weight: 53 lbs. House-Trained: Yes Crate-Trained: Yes, but not needed Good with Dogs: Yes Good with Cats: Yes Good with Kids: Yes, best with kids who can handle jumpiness Energy Level: Medium   Fence Required: Yes   About Roni’s Breed: Our best guess is that Roni is a Rhodesian Ridgeback mixed breed. Rhodesian Ridgebacks are known for their loyal, athletic, and deeply devoted nature. Originally bred as hunting and guardian dogs, they’re confident, intelligent, and form strong bonds with their families. Despite their impressive presence, they’re often gentle, affectionate companions who love being close to their people and thrive on routine and connection.   An ideal home for a Rhodesian Ridgeback is one that offers consistent companionship, regular exercise, and a secure outdoor space. They do best with families who appreciate an active, people&#226&#128&#145oriented dog and can provide structure, positive training, and plenty of time together. With the right balance of activity and affection, they become incredibly loyal, loving members of the household.     What to Love about Roni: This beautiful girl is the definition of a loyal companion. She adores her humans and hopes to find a family who is home more often than not, because being near her people is truly her happy place. She’s convinced she’s a 50&#226&#128&#145lb lap dog and will gladly curl up beside you (or on you!) whenever she gets the chance.   Roni is house trained, crate trained, and has such great manners that she can be left alone without a crate. She has medium energy — the perfect blend of playful and cuddly — and enjoys her twice&#226&#128&#145daily 1–2 mile walks, where she shines on the leash. She’ll need a fenced yard where she can safely run and play. She greets people warmly and interacts well with everyone, though she tends to be a bit of a “girl’s girl” and especially loves female energy. She does well with older school&#226&#128&#145aged kids, though her excited jumping may be too much for little ones.   She’s been good with cats so far, though she may chase outdoor cats because she thinks they want to play. She’s met female dogs successfully and would likely do well with males too. Whether she’s your one&#226&#128&#145and&#226&#128&#145only or has a doggy buddy, she’ll thrive as long as she gets plenty of love and companionship. She also has some natural guard&#226&#128&#145dog tendencies and will bark at people walking by — she takes her job of watching over her home seriously.   Roni’s Rad Highlights: 6&#226&#128&#145year&#226&#128&#145old, 53 lb possible Rhodesian Ridgeback mix with a deeply loving, people&#226&#128&#145oriented personality House trained, crate trained, and has excellent home manners — can be left alone without a crate Medium&#226&#128&#145energy girl who enjoys 1–2 mile walks twice a day and is great on a leash Needs a fenced yard to safely play and explore Friendly with people and especially loves female energy; good with older school&#226&#128&#145aged kids Has done well with cats indoors and has met dogs politely Loyal, cuddly, and convinced she’s a 50&#226&#128&#145lb lap dog Has some natural guard&#226&#128&#145dog tendencies and will bark at people passing by Best suited for a home where someone is around often — she loves being close to her humans   Roni is a sweet, affectionate, head&#226&#128&#145tilting beauty who wants nothing more than to be part of a loving family.
