She's an energetic, playful companion who loves the company of other dogs. Her playful nature is infectious, spreading joy to everyone around her. However, Dixie prefers the company of larger companions and would do best in a home without cats or small children. She's an intelligent, trainable dog who would thrive with an owner willing to invest time in her. Dixie's vibrant personality and love for play make her a wonderful potential addition to a family. She's waiting for a home where she can share her boundless love and enthusiasm.   Dixie is spayed, heartworm negative and on monthly prevention, up to date on vaccinations and microchipped. Story
Hi there, I'm Dusse, and I am 2 years old! I am a sweet, sweet boy! I am a pretty playful and curious guy that loves to go on walks as much as I love to try and snuggle into your lap for a fat nap. I really enjoy playing with toys, especially ones that squeak and are durable enough for me to chew on for quite some time! I do take some time to warm up to new people, but when I realize we're friends, I am a big ball of love! I am a staff favorite around here, but that is supposed to be a secret between you and me... I would do well in a home with kids, and I am the type of loyal dog that will protect them with my life. I hope you'll come meet me today! Some quick facts about me: Not Cat Friendly Dog Selective Kid FriendlyLikely housetrainedSweet, playful boyWeight: 74 lbsIntake Date: 01/07/2024Reason: Could no longer afford / take care ofGive the shelter a call at (574) 267-3008 or email them at info@awlwarsaw.com if you have any questions about me! Story
Hi guys and gals, I'm Brutus and I am 5 years old! I am a sweet and fun dude that loves to just hang out with you! I am here at the shelter because I was an outdoor dog and was chained outside during that really cold weather in January, and my owners wanted to surrender me. Since I am used to being an outdoor dog, sometimes when you hand me really delicious treats, I will hold onto it and bury it, so I can save it for later! I would make a great protection dog outdoors since I have the thick coat for it, or I would love to try and be an indoor dog! Staff thinks I would adjust well to being inside since I am food motivated, which would make it easy for me to learn house manners! I am pretty good on the leash, and I take corrections nicely (sometimes I like to jump to greet you). I would make a great candidate for a household with children and other dogs so that is a bonus for me! I also like to try and play with the power washer, so I could be a dog that loves the water... We'll see!! Please come out to meet me today! Some quick facts about me: Not Cat FriendlyDog FriendlyKid FriendlyHandsome and friendly! Story
Lyra Lyra has mastered the puppy dog eyes - even still at approximately 7 years old. She understands that your couch is our couch, your bed is our bed, makes herself at home, and even updates the Feng Shui of any cushions - free of charge! She is packed full of personality, and loves to be near you as much as possible. Lyra was clearly cared for in her past life, and it's possible she never used to have to potty outside if it was raining or snowing. Despite not being a lover of the elements, she does still adhere to her potty training and makes every effort to "hold it" until she's let outside.  Thus far, she has gotten along with everyone and everything. Anyone - human, dog, or even car - that passes by is a potential new friend, and she is READY to greet them (nicely and quietly). She reads the room really well and doesn't want to start any trouble, but she will absolutely let loose and wrestle, chase, and smack talk if she has a willing playmate. She has not resource guarded anything but bones so far, and is OK if you touch her food, but very very sad if you take it away (even to add to it), or don't put enough food in her bowl to begin with. She will hit you with her signature puppy eyes and they are very effective.  She has some pretty big feelings about being left alone. She is currently on Prozac to help manage those feelings, and she will sing you the song of her people when you leave her. But she does better with another dog in the home, and is an absolute angel while you're gone. She does NOT like being cooped up, caged, or tethered, though. The only time she has ever been destructive is when she has not had free range.  She does OK on the leash - she pulls but listens and distracts you with the little flops of the tips of her ears. Off leash, she gets the zoomies and particularly enjoys spinning in circles. She is also pretty good about coming to you.. Once she has taken in the sights and smells.  We do not know her past. She has several scars, and a knee that's been fixed up. None of that seems to have phased her, however! She is the absolute sweetest dog and just wants to love and be loved. She is very playful and would prefer a home with other pets, and ideally someone who is either retired, works from home, or a home where at least one human is home at any given time.  We've not tested for everything yet - but we suspect she'd be friends with any age of human, and any animal. We do not accept electric/underground fences. All dogs & cats in the home must be spayed/neutered & up to date on core vaccines & preventatives in order for your application to be approved. ##1840663##
