Story
This sweet girl’s name is Cornbread, and just like her name, she’s warm, comforting, and hard not to love. 🐶 Cornbread is a 4–5 year old female Pitbull/Rottweiler mix who is a very good girl looking for the right home to call her own. She’s a strong, beautiful dog with a big personality and a lot of love to give to her people. Once she trusts you, she’ll be a loyal companion who enjoys being part of the family. Because of her size and energy, we recommend a home with no children under 10 years old. Cornbread would also do best in a cat-free home, and if you already have another dog, a meet and greet will be required to make sure everyone gets along. Cornbread is ready for a family that understands larger breeds and will give her the structure, love, and attention she deserves. ❤️ If you’re looking for a loyal companion with a big heart, Cornbread might just be your girl!

Story
Hi, I’m Kuma. 🖤You may remember me as Josie, but I have a new name now and I’m starting fresh.I’m a 7-year-old Rottweiler who was originally found as a stray in Saint Joe. Life hasn’t always been easy for me, and I carry some of the signs of being used as a breeding dog in the past. But through it all, I’ve never stopped loving people.I was recently returned to the shelter due to changes in my owner’s health, so through no fault of my own, I’m looking for a home again.I’m incredibly affectionate and loyal, and once I bond with you, I’ll be your shadow. I will be honest though—I’m still learning the rules of living in a home. Sometimes I get curious about counters or try to slip out the door, simply because no one ever taught me what was right and wrong before. But here’s the best part: I really want to learn. With a little patience, guidance, and love, I know I can be the amazing companion I was meant to be.A few things about me:• I may be selective with other dogs• I haven’t met cats yet• I have a huge heart and love my people deeply• I’m ready for a fresh startMy past hasn’t been perfect, but my future could be—with the right family. If you’re looking for a loyal companion who will love you with everything she has, please come meet Kuma at DeKalb Humane Society.I’m ready to start my next chapter… maybe with you. 🐾An adoption application can be filled out on the DHS website https://www.dekalbhumanesociety.org/adopt. Dog adoption fees are $250.00 for all puppies and adult dogs. Seniors are a donation of choice.Cats and kittens are minimum donation $50.00

Story
Meet Sharon — your couch-loving best friend 💕Sharon is as sweet as they come and happiest right by your side (especially on the couch!). She’s smart, playful, and loves a good game of fetch—but when playtime is over, she’s all about snuggles.Sharon will do best as the only pet in the home, where she can soak up all the love and attention. She has done well with a very calm, submissive male dog, but overall she prefers to be the queen of her castle—no cats, please. She’s leash-trained, crate-trained, and house-trained, and her manners improve more every day. She can get a little excited and may jump to say hello, but with consistency, she continues to shine. Sharon would love a fenced yard or regular leash walks (she’s not one to roam free). She is incredibly loyal and protective of her people. After raising 6 puppies of her own, this devoted girl is more than ready to be someone’s baby. Sharon is around 6\7 years oldIf you’re looking for a loving, loyal companion to cuddle up with, Sharon might just be your perfect match. 🐾If you are interested in adopting this pet please visit www.blackfordcountyanimalshelter.com to complete our online adoption application.

Story
Cookie has all the great qualities of a dog: Loyalty, playfulness, intelligence, and of course- Goofiness. He earned the title of "Cookie Monster" the day he was rescued as a stray. The way we earned his trust was with a LOT of animal crackers. This boy loves to play with toys; His all time favorite being tennis balls. He is such a happy- go- lucky boy. We estimate him as being 3 years old, but he may be younger than that. We have him down as being a Chocolate Lab/ Rottweiler mix, but that is just our guess. What we know for sure is that he is a cutie! He has been overweight since he came to the shelter, so an active home where he can get to a healthier weight would be ideal. Cookie would prefer to be the only animal in the home. He does not like cats and is dog selective. If you are interested in adopting this pet please visit www.blackfordcountyanimalshelter.com to complete our online adoption application.

Story
Hey, I’m Reba! 1 year old | Mixed Breed | 55 lbs One thing you should know about me right away…I LOVE people. Like… really love people. If you’re looking for a dog who is excited to see you, wants to be close to you, and thinks humans are the best thing ever… we might be a perfect match. Here’s a little more about me: Very people friendly and affectionate Has done well with some male dogs Would do best with older, respectful kiddos No kitties for me… I’m a little too interested I’m still a young girl, which means I’ve got energy, personality, and I’m still learning! I’ll need continued structure, guidance, and consistency to help me be my very best self… but I’m smart, eager, and ready to learn! Food is a big deal to me, so I’ll need my own space while I eat. Feeding me in a crate is highly recommended to help me feel comfortable. Here’s what would make me happiest: A fenced yard or daily walks to burn off my energy Mental enrichment and things to keep my brain busy An owner committed to continuing basic training and socialization! I’m the kind of dog who will make you laugh, keep you company, and love you with her whole heart… I just need someone willing to guide me along the way.
