Story
Smokey is a 4 year 8 month old Doberman Pincher/Shar Pei mix weighing 43 pounds. Smokey was originally adopted from our shelter as a puppy in 2022 and recently found himself back with us due to no fault of his own. He's a hot mess and a stud muffin! Reported HIGH anxiety from foster, treating with Trazadone. Recently treated for Gastric Dilatation-Volvulus (his stomach flipped) and needs a slow feeder for his meals. Allergies-Special diet required, currently treating skin with diet, baths, and fish oil supplements. The good stuff-he's gentle, sweet and very affectionate. A cuddle bug, will be your shadow. Playful with people and toys, his favorites are tug & wrestling. He likes to sleep on the furniture and in bed with you. Previous home had a fenced in yard. He's treat motivated. Knows commands sit, easy & down. Housebroken. Crate trained (safe place) and good on a leash. He's selective with other dogs, they must be submissive and smaller than him.His adoption fee is $150, this includes his neuter, heartworm test, vaccines current, deworming, heartworm/flea prevention and micro chipped. His dog license is also required to be purchased for Sandusky County residents at time of adoption, which is an additional $21.00 (includes $1.00 service charge). Please visit the shelter to meet him, we show dogs Monday through Friday 1pm-4:30pm, and Saturday 1pm-3:30pm. Once you have visited the shelter, you are then eligible to submit an adoption application for review. Please note, we do not offer same-day adoptions and there is a $10 non-refundable application fee.Come and meet your new best friend today! Story
Meet Cookie – A Broken Heart Ready to Love Again Just a few weeks ago, Cookie’s world shattered. The only family she had ever known left her tied up and abandoned, alone and afraid. When she was rescued, she was completely shut down—confused, heartbroken, and unsure if she could ever trust again. But even in those first quiet days, there was something in her eyes: a flicker of hope, a quiet longing to believe in love once more. With time, patience, and gentle care, Cookie has started to come back to life. Day by day, she’s showing us who she truly is—a soulful, affectionate girl with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Cookie is deeply connected to people. She craves human companionship and lights up when she feels safe and seen. Once she trusts you, she’ll follow you from room to room, curling up beside you for comfort and leaning in for affection. She is the kind of loyal companion who just wants to be your everything. Because of her past, Cookie does best as the only pet in the home. She’s reactive to other dogs and needs a calm, stable environment where she doesn’t have to compete for attention or feel on edge. A home with adults or older children who understand her boundaries and can give her the predictability she needs would be ideal. Underneath her cautious exterior is a smart, expressive girl who has so much love to give. She’s affectionate, playful, and incredibly devoted once she opens up—and she’s just waiting for someone to see the beautiful spirit that’s been there all along. Cookie has made incredible progress, but shelter life is no place for a dog still healing. She needs a quiet home where she can continue to grow, feel secure, and finally learn what it means to be truly loved. She’s ready—now she just needs someone willing to give her the chance. Adoption is $275, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Although we work to potty train all of our dogs, we cannot guarantee full house training before adoption. Regression is a normal part of transitioning to a new home. Story
(The DNA test showed German shepherd, Shar Pei and Chow.) This adorable spirited little boy and his siblings came in to rescue last winter after they were dumped on a back country road. Their mother was found deceased, so we took the puppies in to try to save them. They were very sick initially but are very healthy now. Barnabas is a gentle boy, but dose love to run and play with other dogs. He has done amazing with his house and crate training. He is so deserving of a wonderful home to call his own. he is fostered in East TN, but transportation is included in the adoption fee and provided by Rescue Riders LLC. Please let me know if you have any questions.

Story
Please welcome Avo to our family. Is this guy handsome or what? Detroit Animal Care and Control has him listed as a Boxer/Pit Bull mix. We’ll let the pictures of this stunning boy do all the talking, but here’s a little background on him. Avo is about 3 years old and weighs around 50 pounds. He is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, up to date on all vaccines, and current on preventatives. He is currently living in a foster home with an adult female dog and they get along great. His foster reports that he’s the “best boy,” and we believe it. Avo has quickly won over everyone he’s met with his sweet personality and handsome face. He’s also got some energy and would love a family that can help him burn some of it off with walks, playtime, or a fenced-in backyard where he can stretch his legs and have some fun.

Story
Meet Ritz — Ready for His Forever Home Ritz has been in our care for over three months, and this sweet 9-month-old pup is growing up in foster care while waiting for the home he deserves. At about 30 lbs, he’s a petite “mini-pittie” with a big personality, an even bigger heart, and the cutest habit of tapping his front feet when he’s excited. Ritz is a fun, goofy companion who loves to cuddle, especially with his foster dog friends at bedtime. He currently lives successfully with medium-to-large dogs and does best with calmer canine companions or dogs with a lower play style. He’s respectful of dogs who don’t want to play and enjoys simply being near his people. Cats, however, are a bit too interesting for him, so a cat-free home would be best. This food-motivated boy already sits nicely for treats, eats his meals in his crate, and settles in beautifully for couch or recliner cuddle time. He sleeps well overnight and is eager to please. Ritz shows signs of reactivity towards other dogs when physically restrained in public places. He often shows his excitement at home by wanting to put a pant leg or sleeve in his mouth, this behavior could be perceived by some as agression, however, it's truly him being excited. His foster has been working at stopping this behavior or redirecting to more appropriate items. Because of this, a home with children over 13 would be the best fit. We are happy to provide training support with an approved, committed adopter to help him continue working through things and building confidence and skills. Ritz has so much potential and is already a wonderful companion — loyal, affectionate, playful, and deeply connected to his people and residents dogs alike. He just needs someone willing to give him the chance he’s been patiently waiting for. Looking for a loyal companion who will love you wholeheartedly?
