Story
Minnie is a sweet, loving puppy that is playful and inquisitive. She has that classic wrinkly/rolly skin. She is cuddly, learning commands, loyal and protective, but gets along well with our smaller dog and 7 year old child. She is *mostly* house trained and will stand by the door and whine to go out, she's crate trained and does not bark a whole lot. Minnie is finding her feet improving daily on coordination and agility, loves to play with toys, enjoys being outside, taking walks, treats, ice cubes and being around her people.

Special needs or not, Pepper’s heart is as big as her personality, and she’s ready to bring endless happiness into your life! Pepper may roll around in a wheelchair, but that doesn’t slow her down one bit. In fact, she’s just as active and playful as any other pup. While caring for a dog in a wheelchair might seem a bit daunting, Pepper’s zest for life and her ability to navigate her wheelchair with ease make it incredibly rewarding. Her cheerful disposition and playful antics will make every moment with her a delight. Pepper thrives in the company of kids and will bring countless smiles and laughter into your home. She adores cuddling with her favorite stuffed animals and has a fun-loving, silly personality that’s sure to brighten your days. We’re open to both foster and adoption placements for Pepper, as long as you’re committed to providing her with the love and care she deserves. If you’re ready to give Pepper the happy ending she’s been waiting for—or at least be a safe and loving stepping stone on her journey—reach out to us! Adoption is $275, which includes spay/neuter at our vet, vaccines, dewormer, microchip, and clean bill of health. Although we work to potty train all of our dogs, we cannot guarantee full house training before adoption. Regression is a normal part of transitioning to a new home. Story
I go by Carmel over here and am loving being the ultimate couch potato at my foster family's house and snoozing the day away!- I like to take things easy most of the time, but I do love a good rolling around in the grass on my back with my legs waving in the air- I also realized since I've been here, that I love being petted and can live with other dogs effortlessly (after slow and proper intros)- I don't mind my toddler human siblings, and could do well in a home with kids- I would prefer a forever home that doesn't have very many steps to go up and down as my joints sometimes get stiff and I don't get around like I use to (but hey, my mom says neither does she!)- I am very sweet and am just as content to sit by you or do my own thing- I'm potty trained, and trusted to be out of the crate when my foster parents are away because I'm such a good girl- If you are looking for a dog that is low maintenance and will keep you company for the rest of her days- I'm your gal! This pet is in a foster home! Story
Zuri A16802446 lb. spayed female, approx 1 year old - She’s definitely a little nervous here- Friendly and very sweet though- Loves to be close for pets. Curls up in your lap for them.- Sits, gives paw and lays down- Takes treats gently but didn’t eat any- Not interested in toys currently- Gives an occasional kiss- Walks well on a leash- Seems non reactive to dogs nearby and may do well living with a fur sibling after slow and proper intros Unknown behavior with dogs/cats/kids. Please keep in mind that the shelter can be a very stressful environment. Studies show that a minimum of 3 days decompression drastically lower stress hormones and allow the dog to show more personality after they have settled in. There is a suggested donation of $100 for our dogs, payable by cash, check or through paypal at the time of the adoption. To meet them please go to front door and a DACC staff member will assist you with adoption or fostering. **And when coming to meet one of our dogs, please bring all the humans with you, but leave any current dogs at home. Staff will go over how to slowly and properly introduce them after a decompression period.** The shelter is open 7 days a week from 10:30-3:30 BUT our adoptions are done 7 days a week from 10:30am -3:00pm. The last potential adopter must arrive before 3:00 pm so we have time to properly help you before closing. 1431 E Ferry St. Detroit

You can fill out an adoption application online on our official website. If interested in any of our animals for adoption, or to foster an animal, please fill out the respective application here to get the process started. Visit our FAQ webpage for commonly asked questions about our adoption/foster process. Do you have tennis balls, like a lot of them, if not will you buy some? If your answer is yes than you might be the home for me! See I am simple girl but I do require lots of tennis balls!! I like other toys but nothing gets me as excited as having tennis balls! My foster says I am just a happy gal, that is good with all people even kiddos! I am house broken, but I may have had a couple accidents but I am still recovering from taking care of my 5 babies for the last several weeks. They all have found their forever homes and now it’s my turn. I was a great mom but my foster promised I never ever have to do it again, which sounds perfect to me! I really love my foster home. See, I also get alone time and have my own room, I have adults and kids who play fetch with me a few times a day. They all helped me get better on the leash, to come when I was called, I am actually even starting to learn how to settle down and watch TV. I would probably like to stay here but they have some big dogs here, I just don’t like when they get in my way. My foster thinks I will much prefer to be the only dog in a home.  I think that is true at least to start. The cats here don’t bother me. Did I mention my NEED for tennis balls, oh I did, okay. Well that’s all for now. Microchips are implanted between the animals shoulder blades and are a permanent form of identification. The microchips are registered to Last Day Dog Rescue with the adopter's info added once adopted. If the animal is ever lost and slips his/her collar/tags the microchip allows the finder to know who to contact if scanned for a microchip. Animals MUST still have a collar with tags on at all times. Per our contract, we take all our animals back if for any reason you can't keep your adopted animal. Please understand the statements about this animal are based upon the foster home's evaluation of the animal. The animal might behave differently (negatively or positively) in your home. While the animal might be good with the current foster’s dogs, cats, children, etc., it may not be with your animal(s) or children. The animal may be housebroken or litter trained in the home of the foster but may relapse in your home. The animal is represented to the public as it performs in the foster home and any statements made regarding the animal are conditional to that foster home setting. Please understand that statements made regarding this animal are simply overviews and are not guaranteed. The Petfinder.com system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our animals. Visual breed identification in animals is unreliable so for most of the animals we are only guessing at predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each animal as an individual and will do our best to describe each of our animals based on personality, not by breed label. Thank you for looking through our list of animals needing forever homes and choosing rescue first. We appreciate you stopping by. October 3, 2024, 3:37 pm

Story
Angus is almost 1.5 years old. Neutered and fully up to date on shots and vaccines. He is a sweet boy that loves to sleep in bed and snuggle on the couch. He is potty trained and has been good around other dogs. He is from the shelter and does scare easily with loud noises. He has a small male fear factor. Has NEVER bit anyone or other dogs, just barks to show he’s uncomfy. He loves to run in the yard (fenced in yard would be best) and knows a few command words. Good with kids and other dogs. Needs some work on pulling when going on walks. He is a great boy, just needs someone with the time and skill to really implicate good training.
