Story
Meet Darko, our stunningly beautiful sweet 14-month-old Shepsky (German Shepherd × Husky mix) who’s ready to steal your heart and find his forever home. Darko’s story began in the saddest way: he was confiscated from a backyard breeder by animal control and ended up in a high-kill shelter. There, he developed kennel cough and was heartbreakingly placed on the euthanasia list. Thankfully, our rescue group stepped in at the last moment, pulled him to safety, and got him the veterinary care he desperately needed. Today, Darko is a completely healthy, neutered, and fully vaccinated young dog with a bright future ahead. He’s already house trained and knows a bunch of commands—he’s smart, eager to please, and picks things up quickly. What makes Darko so special is his incredible personality: he’s funny, incredibly sweet, gentle, and deeply loyal. He loves people of all ages—from tiny toddlers to grandparents—and gets along beautifully with other dogs and even cats. His calm, affectionate nature makes him the perfect companion for just about any loving family. One of the most touching things about Darko is how he stops during walks, and tilts his down to stare at the tall grass, and just basks in the sunshine on his gorgeous coat—like he’s feeling real freedom and warmth for the very first time. It melts our hearts every single time. After such a tough start to life, Darko has bounced back with so much resilience and joy. All he wants now is a family to call his own—one that will give him the love, stability, and adventures he’s always deserved. If you’re looking for a goofy, gentle, smart, and devoted best friend who’s ready to fill your home with tail wags and cuddles, Darko is waiting to become part of your world. Could that family be yours? 💙

Story
How this pet arrived: Dash was brought in by his previous owner on February 15, 2025 Why this pet is the one for you:Meet Dash! He's a young dog in training who's still learning that the world can be a safe place. He may start out cautious when everything is new, but with patience and a calm, steady approach, his sweet nature starts to shine. He can seem a bit reserved at first, yet once he trusts you, he really begins to blossom. Dash isn't walking on a leash just yet, so he'll need a fully enclosed outdoor space where he can safely potty and explore. He'll also appreciate a cozy, quiet spot indoors where he can retreat, relax, and recharge when he's had enough excitement. Having a confident, well-adjusted dog in the home would be a big help - someone who can show him the ropes and help him feel more secure as he continues building confidence. Dash would do best in a home with children ages 8 and up, and all family members should be present for the meet-and-greet. With encouragement, consistency, and a little belief in his potential, Dash is ready to become a beloved member of the family! At SDHS:Dash has been vaccinated, microchipped and neutered. He is now ready for his new home! Shy/Fearful Dog: This pet requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about them. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: White Weight: 33.2 Age: 0yrs 11mths 0wks

Story
How this pet arrived: Cherry Blossom was brought in by our Humane Law Enforcement team on January 2, 2026. Why this pet is the one for you:Meet Cherry Blossom! Cherry Blossom is a delicate little flower just beginning to bloom. Like her namesake, she does best in calm, peaceful surroundings where she can open up in her own time. She loves her crate - it's her cozy "garden," a safe space where she can relax and feel secure. Cherry Blossom is happiest in a quiet home with minimal foot traffic and kids over 12 who understand how to be gentle. She will also need to be your one and only dog friend! She's not ready for leash walks yet, so a yard is perfect for her potty needs while her confidence grows. She'll go home in her crate, so please be sure your car can fit it! With patience, kindness and a steady routine, this sweet blossom is sure to bloom into something truly special! Shy/Fearful Dog: Cherry Blossom requires a virtual behavior consult, please watch THIS video to learn more about her. Primary Color: Black Secondary Color: Tan Weight: 56.4 Age: 1yrs 2mths 2wks
