I'm a 3-year-old Siberian Husky currently in California, but my bags are packed and I'm ready to travel to my forever home. People always say the same thing when they meet me... "He's just the sweetest boy." And honestly, that's exactly who I am. I love attention. I love giving kisses. I love stretching out next to my people and simply enjoying being together. If you're relaxing on the couch, you'll probably find me right beside you with a happy tail and hopeful eyes, waiting for a few extra pets. I'm also a huge fan of other dogs. Playing is one of my favorite things, and I'm especially gentle with smaller dogs. I know how to match their energy, and I genuinely enjoy having canine friends. Life hasn't always been easy. I came into the shelter as a stray and spent more than two months waiting for someone to notice me. Even after being injured by another dog, I never stopped being kind. I never stopped trusting people. That's just who I am. Happy. Gentle. Full of love. I'm wonderful with people, good with kids, and happiest when I'm simply included in whatever you're doing. I don't need to be the center of attention. I just want to be part of your family. If you're looking for a dog who will greet you with kisses, make friends wherever he goes, and remind you every single day what unconditional love looks like... I think you've been looking for me. Hi, I’m Rufus! I’m a 2-year-old German Shepherd weighing about 94 pounds, and I have some exciting news: I’m officially in Illinois! I’m currently in training, where I’m showing everyone what a very good boy I am while I get ready for the family I’ve been waiting for. My road here wasn’t easy. I was adopted and later ended up back as a stray, not once, but twice. The second time, I arrived at the shelter wearing a shock collar so tight it had to be cut off, leaving wounds around my neck. Despite everything, I remained friendly, loving, and trusting. The shelter staff saw the good dog underneath everything that had happened to me, and now I finally have the chance to show everyone else too. I love people, I’ve done well with other dogs, and I’ve lived in a home before. I’m a big, strong Shepherd, but underneath all 94 pounds is a loyal, affectionate boy who wants to belong to someone. And now, with training under my belt and Illinois beneath my paws, I’m closer than ever to finding my forever. I’ve done enough starting over. This time, I’m ready to stay. I'm still here because I deserve what every dog deserves—a soft bed, a full belly, gentle hands, and someone to love me through my golden years. Right now, I'm safe in California while I wait for the family willing to open their heart to a senior boy like me. I may move through the world a little differently now, relying on kindness, routine, and the people I trust, but I still have so much love left to give. I don't need grand adventures anymore. I just want peaceful mornings, cozy naps, and someone who will remind me every day that I'm safe. Senior dogs have a way of changing your heart. We don't ask for much.
