Her foster family says she often greets them with full-body wiggles and lots of kisses when they wake up or return home. She’s a smart little girl who enjoys Level 2 and Level 3 puzzle toys, is starting to learn cues like “sit,” and does well using potty pads. Tamarack (6 yrs. 16 lbs.) is a Shih Tzu with a big personality and an even bigger heart. Friendly, playful, and full of life, Tamarack lights up around other dogs and is always ready for a game or a romp in the yard. He’s especially happy when he’s around canine companions who match his enthusiasm—or help ground it. While Tamarack is a sweetheart through and through, he does show some high-energy behaviors in the rescue environment that make him stand out from the crowd. He’s spirited, expressive, and always on the go—so he’s looking for a home that understands his zest for life and can offer structure, patience, and support. Tamarack is still unsure about handling and will need a patient home willing to work with him at a slow, respectful pace as he continues to build trust. He will also benefit from ongoing socialization around people to help him feel more confident in new situations. The good news is that Tamarack is food motivated, which makes positive reinforcement training a great tool for helping him succeed. He also walks on leash and enjoys getting out and about. Tamarack requires a confident, established dog in the home to help guide him and model calmer behavior. He thrives with routine, companionship, and a family who can appreciate his playful nature while gently helping him stay balanced. If you have a solid pack leader (with four legs), a patient heart, and a willingness to help a dog grow at his own pace, Tamarack could be your perfect match. ------ Before being rescued, many of our dogs had limited socialization, so they may need some time to adjust to life as a family pet. Older kids are often a great fit for our dogs, and homes with younger children will be considered based on each dog’s individual needs. Skills like house training and leash walking may take a little extra patience and practice. However, with understanding and a gentle hand, most of these dogs adapt quite quickly.
