Story

    Marlo and Iggy are a fantastic, bonded pair, who have been at the rescue for 9 years, almost their entire lives. Marlo is Iggy’s mother, but they are very close in age. When they arrived, they were very young. Marlo has always been an angel, but Iggy was untrained and would sometimes bite, especially people he didn’t know. We have been working with him all these years, and his behavior has greatly improved. Actually, both Marlo and Iggy are extremely friendly and affectionate, and they love to spend time with people, cuddling, playing, and getting belly rubs. However, on a rare occasion, Iggy will still bite, but it is almost always someone he doesn’t recognize. This is the only reason they are still at the rescue and it will take a special, experienced and patient person, who would consider coming to meet them more than once, to give them they chance they so deserve.             Marlo is a Shih Tzu, about 11 years old and 12 pounds. Iggy is a Shih Tzu/Terrier mix, about 10 old and 14 pounds. They both have remained very happy, energetic, and upbeat, and they get along with other dogs. Marlo and Iggy love each other and all the staff and volunteers at the rescue, who they interact with so beautifully (see video).  If you believe you are that special someone for Marlo and Iggy, please put in an application today. Story

 There is a very good reason why this adorable, beautiful Shih Tzu has been at the rescue for over 4 years. Geoffrey David is a special boy, who needs a special person to call his own. His behavior suggests he was abused from a very early age. When he arrived, this young boy was very untrusting and a defensive biter. We have patiently and consistently shown him love, care, and compassion, and he has been watching the other dogs happily embrace human attention and petting for years. All said, Geoffrey David has made remarkable improvements in his behavior. He is now happy and relaxed, seeks attention and enjoys being petted. There is a sweetness in him coming through. He is very camera shy, but has even begun to allow some videos.             We believe the right person is out there for Geoffrey David, who has experience with a similar type of dog. They must be patient, calm, and understanding, and willing to give him the time he needs to trust. Geoffrey David has his limits and will give a warning snap/bite if pushed beyond his comfort zone. He currently does not want to be picked up, held, or go for leash walks, although this could change with time. He will need a fenced yard. Geoffrey David enjoys the company of other nice dogs, and gets along great with his group at the rescue. He is now about 9 years old and 14 pounds. Story

Mr Personality best describes our adorable Cobe. An 9 1/2  years old, 17 pounds, Shih Tzu boy, nothing keeps Cobe from loving life. Cobe was surrendered to us with one non-visual eye ( ? old injury or neglect), and one eye recent blinded by a rapid onset cataract. It was no surprise to find out Cobe has diabetes; what a shame his prior owners didn’t detect and treat him for this. He takes insulin twice daily with no problems and is doing extremely well. Potentially, he could be given sight by cataract surgery. Cobe is a very happy, well adjusted, very affectionate little guy. He loves other dogs and all people, as well as going for walks, getting belly rubs, and just sitting on your lap or being held. His love of life is contagious and endearing... all he wants is someone special to share it with. Could that special someone be you? Eva and Theodore are a young, super fun, high energy, bonded pair. They are very happy, friendly, and sweet, and simply enthusiastic about life.   Mikey and Chico are super adorable, litter mate brothers, who are very, very sweet and friendly. They are exuberant about all the love and attention they are receiving at the rescue, and it usually looks like they are smiling and wagging their tails. Mikey and Chico’s favorite thing is playing with toys, especially fetch. These beautiful brothers love each other and share very nicely. They also get along with other dogs.    Mikey and Chico are Shih Tzus, about 2 1/2 years old and 12 pounds. Mikey has one shrunken, blind eye, but the other eye has good vision. Otherwise, they are both healthy and strong. Mikey and Chico are happy, energetic boys who love to play and romp in the yard, but also like affection. They cannot wait to share their love with a new family. They have not yet learned to walk on leashes, so their new home should have a nice, fenced yard. Story

  Despite his quarks, Fuji is a terrific boy with a great spirit and fun loving nature. He is very friendly and loves to spend time with people. Fuji enjoys cuddling and affection, belly rubs, brisk leash walks, and romping in the yard. It’s hard not to share his happy vibes when hanging out with him.             Fuji is a gorgeous, adorable Shih Tzu, about 7 years old and 14-15 pounds. Although most of the time Fuji is his wonderful self, he is quarky, and, on occasion, if provoked, he misbehaves. He needs an owner with experience, compassion, and patience, who is okay with a dog that is not perfect all the time (who is?), and who will allow Fuji the space he needs to be comfortable. He does enjoy playing with other easy going dogs (see video), but can be quarky with them too. Of course, this may not occur in a quiet home environment, unlike at the shelter. Fuji is also food aggressive, so he must be separated from other dogs while eating or giving treats.
