Story

    Marlo and Iggy are a fantastic, bonded pair, who have been at the rescue for 9 years, almost their entire lives. Marlo is Iggy’s mother, but they are very close in age. When they arrived, they were very young. Marlo has always been an angel, but Iggy was untrained and would sometimes bite, especially people he didn’t know. We have been working with him all these years, and his behavior has greatly improved. Actually, both Marlo and Iggy are extremely friendly and affectionate, and they love to spend time with people, cuddling, playing, and getting belly rubs. However, on a rare occasion, Iggy will still bite, but it is almost always someone he doesn’t recognize. This is the only reason they are still at the rescue and it will take a special, experienced and patient person, who would consider coming to meet them more than once, to give them they chance they so deserve.             Marlo is a Shih Tzu, about 11 years old and 12 pounds. Iggy is a Shih Tzu/Terrier mix, about 10 old and 14 pounds. They both have remained very happy, energetic, and upbeat, and they get along with other dogs.  There is a very good reason why this adorable, beautiful Shih Tzu has been at the rescue for over 4 years. Geoffrey David is a special boy, who needs a special person to call his own. His behavior suggests he was abused from a very early age. When he arrived, this young boy was very untrusting and a defensive biter. We have patiently and consistently shown him love, care, and compassion, and he has been watching the other dogs happily embrace human attention and petting for years. All said, Geoffrey David has made remarkable improvements in his behavior. He is now happy and relaxed, seeks attention and enjoys being petted. There is a sweetness in him coming through. He is very camera shy, but has even begun to allow some videos.             We believe the right person is out there for Geoffrey David, who has experience with a similar type of dog. They must be patient, calm, and understanding, and willing to give him the time he needs to trust. Geoffrey David has his limits and will give a warning snap/bite if pushed beyond his comfort zone. He currently does not want to be picked up, held, or go for leash walks, although this could change with time. He will need a fenced yard. Geoffrey David enjoys the company of other nice dogs, and gets along great with his group at the rescue. He is now about 9 years old and 14 pounds. Mr Personality best describes our adorable Cobe. An 9 1/2  years old, 17 pounds, Shih Tzu boy, nothing keeps Cobe from loving life. Cobe was surrendered to us with one non-visual eye ( ? old injury or neglect), and one eye recent blinded by a rapid onset cataract. It was no surprise to find out Cobe has diabetes; what a shame his prior owners didn’t detect and treat him for this. He takes insulin twice daily with no problems and is doing extremely well. Potentially, he could be given sight by cataract surgery. Cobe is a very happy, well adjusted, very affectionate little guy. He loves other dogs and all people, as well as going for walks, getting belly rubs, and just sitting on your lap or being held. His love of life is contagious and endearing... all he wants is someone special to share it with. Could that special someone be you? Story

    Emil has been with us for over one year and has made a remarkable transformation. When he arrived, he was suffering from a painful skin infection over his genital area. He had never had a loving or stable home, and was likely mistreated. It was no surprise that the poor, little guy was untrusting and aloof, and did not want to be picked up or sit in a lap for long. We could tell there was a fantastic boy in there just waiting to come out.   Emil is a gorgeous Shih Tzu, about 4 years old and 10-12 pounds.  After time to heal and experience consistent love and care from our staff and volunteers, Emil has blossomed into the happy, playful, friendly, and inviting young boy he was meant to be. His favorite pastime is having someone join him on the floor and play silly hand games, play with toys, give belly rubs, and just hang out together. Emil can still be quarky, and does not like to walk on a leash, be picked up or sit for long in a lap, all of which may change with time and circumstances. He needs a compassionate and patient person,(he may be aloof at first meeting), who can love him as is and put his needs ahead of their own. He also needs a fenced yard.   Mikey and Chico are super adorable, litter mate brothers, who are very, very sweet and friendly. They are exuberant about all the love and attention they are receiving at the rescue, and it usually looks like they are smiling and wagging their tails. Mikey and Chico’s favorite thing is playing with toys, especially fetch. These beautiful brothers love each other and share very nicely. They also get along with other dogs.    Mikey and Chico are Shih Tzus, about 2 1/2 years old and 12 pounds. Mikey has one shrunken, blind eye, but the other eye has good vision.   Samira recently lost the only mom she ever had, who loved her greatly, due to hardship circumstances. She is a beautiful Lhasa Apso, about 11 years old and 16-18 pounds (at proper weight, she should be about 14-15 pounds).  Samira is adjusting to life at the rescue, and is getting along nicely with the other dogs. She really enjoys going for walks, has good energy, and is in good condition.               Samira has typical personality traits known to Lhasa Apsos. She is smart, strong willed, and somewhat independent. Once she knows you, she is friendly and sweet, but can be aloof with strangers. If pushed beyond her comfort zone, Samira can be a bit snippy. She is relaxing better each day, as she gets to know all the new people she is meeting at the rescue, and her fun, silly side is coming out more and more. Samira will do best with an experienced dog owner, who is patient, kind, and compassionate, and who has a good sense of humor. Lhasas are typically loyal and affectionate with their owners, and we believe she will make a great companion for the right person.
